A sighing sound of relief escaped from Rishima and his antennae seemed to slump a little bit, "Really? Good... I really want to talk to you but... I worry that I might say the wrong thing, that I might upset my sisters talking to you... but when will I get the chance to talk to another Shifter?" He said to Chal when the other said that it was alright, that they were friendly and allied at the moment. It had been going well thus far, sure things were a little tense but no outbreaks of fighting, he wondered why it couldn't always be like this. Of course the moment that the thought came to mind he heard his mother's voice in the back of his head going on about how the Alkidike were the rightful rulers of all the land, that the Shifters were invaders, that Jauhar was meant to be theirs, and many other comments he'd heard over his lifetime. It was strange to think that a woman that thought such things might have loved a Shifter once upon a time ago.

When the Shifter told him that Itzal was a pretty beast he gave a nod of his head, petting the Radaku's mane, watching as the beast plopped down on the ground, as though he realized there was no longer any real reason to stay on alert because the two were getting along well enough. That was a relief, it meant that he didn't have to worry about Itzal trying to take a bite out of Chalcedony... good, good. That would have been sure to end the alliance... which would have been horrible. Rishima didn't want to be the cause of something so drastic.

At the mention of the stalker bird he lifted his head up as well, watching the creature that was circling overhead, "Maybe it likes you." He said, wondering if perhaps the beast, like Itzal, had decided that it wanted to travel with Chalcedony? Giving a smile he lowered his gaze back to Chal once more, "Maybe the bird is just shy and doesn't know how to approach you any closer? I am not sure how to make friends with it though, for me I just chatted with Itzal for a while to make friends. Your bird... it's a little high up and might not hear you." He said, not sure how to help in taming the bird but since the creature seemed set on stalking the Shifter there must be a reason behind it? He just hoped that the two were able to make friends, it was hard to watch others from afar and be unable to interact with them. Something that Rishima knew from personal experience.

"Maybe it likes me?" He found himself watching the circling bird for a moment longer before he gave a chuckle, "That's a better option then worry that it is still following me because the one that raided its nest earlier." He murmured, then looked over at the halfbreed and gave a bit of a flush though it was hard to see on his darker skin, "I mean I wasn't trying to steal from them or something at random, they stole something from an Elder of the Wind Tribe and I was trying to get the trinket back. I returned everything else that I took to them other then that one precious heirloom." He explained, not wanting to sound like some sort of monster that went around stealing things from bird nests... well aside from the occasional egg back home but that was to feed his family and it wasn't like he emptied the nests, Takoda had warned him against that.

Crossing his arms over is chest he said, "Well, if the bird ever thinks to come down closer to me I will try to make friends with it even if they did n** and scratch me a bit." He said, glancing at his crossed arms and all the markings that he bore upon them along with the other parts of his body, save the area that his pants had protected for him. At least the avian seemed more interested in attacking his upper body instead of going after more delicate and vulnerable areas he thought to himself, relieved over at least that. He was, at least as far as such attacks went, actually lucky. Even more so that the birds had seemed more interested in fixing up their nest instead of pursuing him when he fled from them after the quick raid.

Rishima had been unable to help but to stare a little bit, at the mention of how Chalcedony had raided a bird nest... finding himself wondering for a moment if it was revenge on the mind of the bird instead of friendship. When the Shifter pleaded his case though, telling him that he wasn't actually trying to steal so much as trying to retrieve something that the birds had stolen initially he better understood what was going on. Not to mention that he felt a little relieved. He wasn't sure why by the idea of this person going around tormenting random birds didn't sit well with him, maybe because he seemed quite nice otherwise? It would be a little strange to learn that he was someone that like to steal from animals... not that a lot of animals normally had all that much to steal. Apparently though the dark birds did, "I see... well that was nice of you to help the Wind Tribe out." He murmured, then asked, "Would you help just any tribe like that? Or were you trying to impress the Wind Tribe since we are wandering through their land?"

He wasn't sure if that sounded a little rude or not, perhaps, but he couldn't help but to wonder what the motive behind helping another tribe might be. What would he do if he were in the same situation? Would he try to help the member of another tribe? Would Jerarda do so? Would his other sisters do it? He really... he really had no idea. The idea of helping others, it was something that should come naturally but at the same time he didn't know if he could do it because he wouldn't want to upset the members of his tribe... but then again on the other hand he didn't think he could leave others to suffer could he? What a strange sort of conundrum he'd sudden found himself thinking over. Given that it was all a hypothetical though he wasn't going to let it weigh on him too much, "Sorry if it sounds rude, I am just curious what drives a person to help other tribes like that is all." He quickly added, so as not to insult the Shifter that he had been getting along with well enough until this point, not wanting to cause a rift. If anything he would prefer to keep the tentative companionship with him to remain at least as long as the alliance between their tribes did.

Chal blinked, starring at Rishima a moment, then gave a bit of a laugh, "Ahhh... that is an odd question." He told the halfbreed, "I guess I would help out the other tribes if they needed it... though I can't see your tribe really accepting any help from me. As for why I helped them because they needed help, that was all." He said, giving a bit of a shrug, not looking as though he understood why he shouldn't have helped. Sure, afterwards, he'd worried that Antiope might be upset with him for wandering away from the duty that had been assigned to him, but she hadn't been. In fact she was quick to praise him what he'd done and he even ended up with a rank out of it all. Not that any of that had been the reason behind what he had done, neither had the thanks that the Wind Tribe members had given to him. All he wanted was to help others as he helped out at home. Maybe a part of him missed the feeling that came with helping?

When the other apologized he gave a shake of his head, "Naw, it wasn't rude. It was an odd sort of question but I guess that is because I don't really think ahead when it comes to times that others need help. I have stepped in where I haven't been wanted, gotten myself injured, and will likely end up making enemies in the future for doing so but... I just can't stop myself at times." He explain, giving a smile, "I mean I met my best friend when I stepped in and helped him to get away from some people that were teasing him in fact." He was glad that he'd done that, he didn't know what might have or where he might have been at this point if he hadn't met the Healer. He might not even ended up on this trip in fact... the idea of that was one that he didn't even want to consider for a moment. This was the path that he was meant to be on, he was meant to meet with Takoda, and be here.

"I guess it weren't for my need to jump into situations, some a bit over my head, I might not have ended where I am now." He nudged a tow against his shield, "I was promoted to being a guard today." He said happily, proudly, unable to keep the grin off his face as he said the words. He was glad to finally tell someone, even if it was someone he'd just met... though it would mean even more when he was finally able to tell Takoda as well as his family back home.

Helped because they needed it? Was it so simple as that for this Shifter? Why couldn't it seem as easy for him? Why was he standing here over thinking it? Likely because he had never really found himself in a situation where he was the one that was needed to help someone... he was more the sort that needed the help. This person, Chalcedony, he was really strong, wasn't he? He wanted to be like that, just like he wanted to be like Jerarda. He wanted to be strong too, to be able to protect his sisters, and maybe one day he would be able to prove his new found strength to his mother as well. It was probably the thing that Rishima wanted the most... but also fear the most. She wasn't going to be happy when he got home, not at all.

"I see... I think... maybe I have spent part to much time being the one that was protected, overly so, so it's hard for me to think about protecting others even if I would want to be able to protect my sisters." He said after a moment of deep though, antennae twitching quickly as he spoke such words allowed. He didn't like admitting such a weakness, not when this person was a potential future enemy but it seemed to come out heedless of the danger. Lifting his gaze he added, "I want the strength that my sister has, to be able to do... anything. Well... anything but fishing at least." It had been a bit funny and a bit of a relief to see Jerarda fail at something since she otherwise seemed like the perfect Alkidike. Her strength, her spirit, how she could move so fast, be so strong, so many things about her were worth admiring even if she couldn't catch fish he thought to himself, suffering from a bit of hero worship when it came to his sister.

When Chal spoke of how he met his friend, how jumping into a situation had allowed him to do so, he gave a bit of a chuckle, "For me it was more like allowing myself to be dragged along was how I met my dear sister." He said, he'd been swept up by her the moment that they meet and was still being dragged along... but he felt a little more as though he were finding his footing, as if he might be able to keep up with her one day. It was something that he looked forward to, "It was worth it though." Perhaps him being brave enough to leave his house, to go into the forest, perhaps it had been the first showing of his strength? And Jerarda had been there to nurture it to a point, now it was up to him to take it the rest of the way.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 02, 2012 5:14 am

Chalcedony found himself doing what he often did without even thinking about it, he reached out to Rishima despite their height difference, and gave him a pat on the head, "It's alright, now that you are working on getting stronger you will be able to protect people. It will just take a bit is all, to get used to being able to do so instead of being the one being protected is all." It really was a bit like he was talking to a sibling. If it weren't for the fact that he knew his father disliked the Alkidike tribe with ruthless conviction he'd almost wonder. He doubted highly that the man would cheat on his mother though, not really. He had faith in that at least when it came to the guy, even if other things about him drove Chal crazy. Still, it would be a pretty strange turn of events if something like that happened to... well... anyone really. To find out that someone from another tribe was related to them. Still, despite the fact that he knew there was no blood between them maybe it was because Rishima was half Shifter that made him feel a bit protective of him? Strange. Best not to let any of the other Shifters, or the Alkidike, find out such a thing.

Lowering his hand back to his side he gave a smile, "Look, there is nothing you should worry about at this point too much. Just try to keep up what you are doing, getting stronger, and I bet in no time you will be like this magnificent sister of yours that you keep talking about." He was sure of it, the halfbreed seemed to have such spirit after all. As it was explained to him that Rishima was here because he'd been swept along was how he met his sister he gave a smile. So it would seem as though outside forces had landed them both in this place, huh? That was actually something that Chal saw as being quite interesting. Outside influences were quite powerful, weren't they?

"I am glad that everything aligned just right so that we might talk, Rishima." Even if they were unable to talk again after today he really felt as if this meeting was one that he should take to heart, because meeting Rishima meant that there was a chance, even if it were only the slightest one, that one day perhaps the two tribes might find peace. No time soon he was sure but maybe one day.

The halfbreed boy's cheeks were burning when he felt the hand patting him on the head, something few people had ever done to him because he wasn't one that exactly garnered a lot of praise back home. In fact he was treated roughly by the others back home far more then he was treated kindly, as such he couldn't help but to enjoy the patting on his head though it was yet another thing from this meeting that he was going to have to keep a secret. He was quite certain that if Jerarda were to learn that he had been happy over being pat on the head like how Rishima treated Itzal, that she would be less then happy with him. Still... it was nice, he was almost disappointed when the hand withdrew though he kept that thought to himself. Instead he glanced at Chalcedony once more, giving an embarrassed sort of smile, "T-Thank you." He murmured, "I... I will work hard." He wanted to work hard already but the fact that even a member of another tribe, one that should be his enemy, was seemingly wanting to see him succeed. It made him want to do so even more.

So all he had to do was keep trying? It seemed so simple and yet he knew that it wasn't as simple as that. In fact it was quite complicated when one took in all of the details involved, but really he didn't care. He wanted to be strong! No, he didn't just want to want for it, no he would be strong! Yes, determination was slowly filling ever since the first day that he had stepped forth from his home on his home, when he met Jerarda, and to now. He was going to do this!

Of course all of that seemed to be forgotten for an instant as Chalcedony told him that he was glad that they had been able to talk. He blinked a couple times, flushed again, and ducked his head, "Ahh... yeah... me too, though don't tell anyone, alright?" He said in a hushed tone, knowing that it was best that nobody else knew that the two of them were glad to meet when they weren't supposed to get along, weren't supposed to be friends, they were supposed to be enemies but... this was actually... nice. A part of him wished there was a way that he could spend more time with the Shifters but he knew if he tried that the Alkidike would likely abandon him and turn on him... and he didn't want that, not in the least bit. It was just a shame he wasn't able to enjoy visiting with both of his bloodlines was all, "It's a shame we might not meet again." He murmured quietly, his voice so quiet it would be hard for Chal to make out.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 02, 2012 5:36 am

Chalcedony nodded his head, "I find that to be a shame too." He said quietly, "You kind of remind me of my siblings in a way." He said, knowing it wasn't something that he should admit to but he really couldn't find it in him to dislike this guy, even if he were half Alkidike because he was still half Shifter as well. This prentice was a part of Chal's tribe as much as he was the Alkidike tribe and if it weren't for the fact that it might cause some sort of incident he might very well try to bring this young man home with him so that he could keep an eye on him... though that wasn't his place, was it? Rishima had his own family, his own friends, his own goals, it wasn't Chal's place to steal him away from all of that to bring him to live with the Shifters even if they might find him as interesting as Chal did... save the zealous ones like Chal's father. He wouldn't be as welcoming though if it were up to mother he wouldn't get a say in any of it.

Looking around for a moment Chal stooped down to scoop up his shield in one hand, "Come on, let's sit down for a bit. I think we can talk for a bit more before have to part ways." He said, not wanting for the two of them to stand around all day, looking as if they were having a face off. Sitting would seem more friendly, "It should be alright for a little bit, so long as we are careful not to be seen." It was strange, sneaking around like this just to have a conversation, but it wasn't so bad. At least they got to talk after all. Walking a short distance away Chal sat down on one of the many, many rocky structures that Sauti seemed to have and waited to see if Rishima would join him. While he understood if he didn't want to the Shifter really needed some time off his feet, after the trials of the day he was a bit on the tired side.

Reminded him of his sibling? If Rishima hadn't been embarrassed before he surely was now... that the guy though of him so fondly, it really just made him want to run. He wouldn't allow that though, if he ran he might be seen of as weak and weak was the opposite of what he was going for, right? His antennae gave a twitch before he glanced over at Chal, "Thank you for your kind words." That a Shifter saw him in a kinder light then many of his sisters did stung a little but he was determined to get them to get them to change their minds about him though he was sure that it was going to take a lot on his part to do that. At least now he knew that he was going along the right path though. He just had to stick to it, not let himself get deterred, and not let his mother draw him back to how his life had been before he was freed from that life by Jerarda.

When he was asked if he wanted to sit down he felt the overwhelming desire to refuse, not wanting to seem as though he was cozying up the Shifter. It wasn't something that he would ever do! He was a proud Alkidike after all! Still, he followed him and in turn Itzal followed Rishima. The halfbreed didn't allow himself to sit though, instead leaning against his familiar, allowing that to be the closest he would get to relaxing around Chalcedony. While the guy was nice enough he couldn't allow himself to get to close to him when he was still an enemy in the eyes of the Alkidike tribe and that was what Rishima was. He had to keep in mind what his tribe would want and think before he did anything, to make sure that he was able to always be one of them... though at the moment he was having a good time talking to this person which was likely far from what his sisters would do... but still, it was a good way to distract himself from the fact that they were still waiting on the edge of Sauti for... well... something that Rishima didn't understand as of yet. Best not to dwell for now, he was sure they would be moving soon enough after all... maybe even moving away from their temporary alliance, something he didn't want to think of given his current company.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 02, 2012 5:56 am

Chalcedony smiled when Rishima followed him part way, leaning against his beast instead of sitting with him. It wasn't exactly sitting together but it was still a friendly sort of atmosphere, that was for sure. He tilted his back, watching the bird that was circling around in the sky, then looked passed it to the sky itself, "Ahhh, look at that. We will be changing here soon." He commented, realizing that the sun would be setting soon, and then the two of them, under the influence of the moon's light, would change to their alternate, silver skin, "How about we hang out until that point?" He invited Rishima, figuring that it would be easier for the two of them to go their own way, back to their respective people, under the cover of night after all... even if in Sauti with all of its dark rocks, that the two of them seemed to stand out in stark contrast to their surroundings.

Letting his eyes close he drew in a calming break, finding that the thought of another day passing him by left him feeling a little more lonely then normal. It had been days since he'd left home, he really did miss home, missed his family, and now he wanted even more to go back to his people, Takoda especially to recharge. Not now though, once the two of them parted ways come the time of the setting sun. Opening his eyes again he looked over at his companion, curiously. He really wanted to see this one in his other color, he did look interesting as it was in the dark color, those antennae of his were especially interesting, "What are the antennae like?" He found himself asking, a question worthy of his siblings really, but he couldn't help but to ask even if it were a childish and simple sort of question.

Rishima lifted his head up at the comment made by the Shifter and realized that it was starting to get a bit late, wasn't it? He had thought to just wander around for a bit, to exercise, try to get in better shape so that might keep up with Jerarda one day. It was a lofty goal but one that he was working toward... now though, now it was getting late and he found himself wondering if his sister might wonder where he was. Would they wonder? Would they worry? Or would it just be Jerarda that did? He'd gotten some dirty looks from some of his other sisters and he knew that they didn't all welcome him on this journey but he still couldn't help but to wonder for a moment what they might think of him getting back late. He shook his head to clear such thoughts and looked over at Chalcedony, "Hang out until we change? Alright." He'd never been around another someone else that would change in the way that he changed. This would be rather interesting to see for sure, "Yes, I think I would like that actually." Another new experience for him to take in, enjoy, but not share with his sisters since it might make him end up set that much further apart from them.

As he waited for the sun to set he found himself posed with a rather odd question, one that had him giving a bit of a laugh, "What are they like? I don't know, just a part of me. If you mean what they do they help me feel vibrations around me. They are quite useful when fishing I have learned." He said, they had twitched a lot then, picking up the movements of the fish in the water, making it easy enough to learn their patterns, to wait for them to get close, and he was able to grab them. He wondered if he should try to teacher Jerarda how to do that... maybe, maybe not. Depended on if she would actually want to learn from him when he was obviously weaker in all other things then fishing at the moment then she was.

That thought was forgotten when the sun went down and sudden Chalcedony and himself were shifting, going from their darker day time color to the silvery color that the Shifters became at night. It was a fascinating thing, to see someone else change like this. He even pushed away from Itzal so that he could get a closer look at it, then gave a happy sort of sound, "Wow... so that is what it looks seeing someone else do it." He murmured to himself, clearly in awe even if it were something he did on a nightly basis. It was just... neat. A shame that his sisters and mother didn't look at Rishima's own change in such a fascinated manner he thought to himself, antennae giving a little twitch. Oh well, he meant to enjoy this to its fullest even if it meant that they would be parting ways soon.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 02, 2012 6:16 am

"Sensing vibrations, that must be neat." He murmured imagine being able to do something like that with a part of your body? It must be a useful sort of skill but one that he didn't mean to take advantage of since he didn't want to do such a low thing as damaging a part of anyone's body on purpose when he was more the sort that wanted to protect people, "It helps with fishing? That's neat." He murmured, never having gone fishing personally but found himself wondering if it were something he should try sometime? Maybe he should ask Takoda if he wanted to go sometime he thought to himself, giving a little smile at the thought. Inviting him out would be fun after all... though he was starting to find that any time spent with Takoda, no matter what they were doing be it chores or something more interesting, that it was fun.

Looking over at Rishima as the sun started to set he watched him in just as curious a manner as Rishima was watching him... though... the way that the halfbreed was starring seemed to instantly embarrass him, making him blush fiercely, "Ahhh, I am glad that we could share this then." He said, doing his best to keep his tone from faltering even though it did so just a little bit. It was obvious that he was a little embarrassed by all the attention over something that was the normal for Chalcedony, something he saw his family do as well many, many times over. For someone like Rishima though who hadn't met with other Shifters until now, it must be new and different so he wouldn't protest at all over the way that Rishima was starring. Once the chance was over and both were their bright, silver coloration he gave a smile, "You look pretty neat in this color too." He commented, having found it neat to see the antennae change color along with the rest of the halfbreed.

Though as the change ended he realized something, it was time for them part ways, wasn't it? He was the one that suggested doing so after they changed after all. It was something he was regretting already as he said, "So... it's evening..."

"Thank you." To have someone say that he looked neat in his silver color was a nice change of pace, it was making him yet again think of how much of a shame it was that he couldn't be as friendly with the Shifters as he would like to be. They seemed like a good lot, people he would like to get closer to, but even if he shared half his blood with the Shifter tribe at heart he was an Alkidike, even if he were a bit of a late bloomer. As it stood he would never be a member of the Shifter tribe, his heart and soul was that of an Alkidike even if he were born the wrong gender and the wrong color.

At the mention that it was evening he gave a nod of his head, antennae twitching a bit more as he realized that this was likely goodbye, wasn't it? He would go back to the Alkidike, Chalcedony would go back to the Shifters, and it would be like they had never met, huh? Sure they had talked, Chal had said things to him that he would take to heart, but it was for the best if they didn't really respond to one another when it came to crossing paths again while on this allied journey. They didn't want their respective tribes to know that they had talked and gotten at all close, right? It was a bit sad really... though he would never be able to tell any of his sisters, maybe not even Jerarda, why it made him sad, "It was nice talking to you, Chalcedony. Thank you for answering my questions and giving me the information about the jeweler. Maybe I will be able to meet with him one day." The Shifter had told him a lot, best that he thank him for it now since he might not get the chance again.

Bowing in a polite manner he took a step back, "Thank you for everything, I am only sad that we might not meet again." He murmured, his voice once more falling to hushed tones, just in case.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 02, 2012 7:21 am

Chal gave the prentice a smile, "It's not a problem, I am glad that I could answer your question and only wish that I might have been able to do more. I do hope that you find the one that you are looking for." He didn't just mean the jeweler but instead the one that he'd initially spoken of, the one that might have a ring similar to the one that Rishima was wearing. It made him curious as to who it was that owned that special ring but knew it wasn't his place to pry... though he knew it would be a question that he would never have an answer to, "Who does the ring belong to?" He blurted out instantly, he had to know or else it would be something that would plague his thoughts... surely asking one more question of the halfbreed wouldn't be so bad since they were parting ways, likely never to see one another again, right?

He flushed a bit then, the color showing up on his silvery colored cheeks, "Ahh... I understand if you don't want to say though, it's just... it seems so important so I find myself curious, sorry." He said, lifting a hand to scratch at the back of his head. He was a little embarrassed in this moment and knew that he really couldn't complain at his siblings for asking silly questions now when he had just done the same thing, asking something rather personal of someone that he had only just met and might never see again due to tribal issues.

The halfbreed gave pause, looked down at his ring for a long moment as if he were thinking about it, then finally said, "My father, it is my father's ring. I... I haven't seen him, ever. He vanished before I appeared and I just... I want to hold out hope that maybe somewhere out there in Jauhar that he might still be alive. This ring is all I have that connects me to him." He said, ducking his head for a moment, antennae twitching rapidly as he revealed such information to the Shifter. What was the harm? It wasn't as though Chalcedony knew the man, he didn't really know Rishima either, there was no way that such information could be used against him in a harmful way.

Taking a step back he lifted a hand to rest it on Itzal's neck before he gave Chalcedony a smile, "Keep it a secret, alright? I don't want any of my sisters or really one for that matter, to know that I am looking for my father. I know I might not find him, that he might very well be dead, but I still have to look. Just in case." It had been many years since Rishima had been born but it didn't mean he'd stop looking. Not until he had proof one way or the other, he just had keep it on down low was all.

"I should be going now, so should you." He said to the other, knowing that their relationship, or what their was of it, would change the moment that they parted ways. It was just what had to be for things to remain the way that they belonged he told himself before he turned to Itzal, "Come on, Itzal, it's time to go and find sister Jerarda, alright?" He knew that the beast liked that particular woman about as much as he liked anyone, that being tolerating her because Rishima liked her, he also knew the beast knew her scent and could track her down so that he could go and sit with her for the night, maybe talk to her, and otherwise feel comfortable since she was the one that seemed to like him the most in the group of his fellow sisters. He gave Chalcedony one last look before he turned on his heel and hurried along to where the Alkidike had made camp with the Radaku hot on his heels.
