For the first time in a long while Avari found herself feeling comfortable and content during a journey. Something she hadn't felt since she was a young foal, blind of the evils her world carried. Panic and fear staying at bay for the moment, the mare tilted her head slightly up and to the side so she could glance up at him with her eyes as they walked. Ears up and attentive to the words Varian spoke, Avari was pleased to learn the humans preferred to group together in one area rather then spread out all over the land like she'd imagined. She was content to just listen to his words with a smile, but it faltered slightly when he began defending the race. Brows pulling together she dropped her gaze to the ground and shook her head gently. He didn't understand, he couldn't. Her whole life she'd come to realize that for every good two-legger out there there seemed to be a dozen more that would rather shoot her death and punish the caring one to death. Ears pinning back, she lowered her head just a bit at the mention of the King of these lands.
If he would have put himself in that position why hadn't she and many others been saved from the lives they'd lives and lost? She thought bitterly but when his laughter caught her ears she sighed, shaking the bitter thoughts from her mind. She knew she couldn't put the blame from her life solely on one being, but having lost all the family she'd ever known, and having all her prayers unanswered she couldn't help but feel the way she did. While she'd fled, arrows nipping and cutting deep into her flank she'd yelled for help, every human they'd fled past either ignored the happenings around them or took up arms, trying in any way possible to take down what they no longer controlled.
"I don't think I can believe a King such as that exists Lord Varian.. But I will take your word for now."
Avari spoke the best response she could give to hide her skepticism at his judgement of a humans character. It was only when his voice took on a dangerous and hard tone that she felt another chill run down her spine, and this one not caused by the wind. A dire warning left his lips that had her brows pulling together and her tip of her tail twisting nervously by her hooves. Halting before him, her dark eyes stared up into his bright ones questioning where all of this had come from, but somehow she could taste how anxious the thought of anything happening made him. And she herself felt her gut twist as she took the warning to heart.
She didn't like the nervous feel about the stallion, and was overcome with the need to calm and soothe them them away. Without thinking she stepped closed to him and stretched her head up to nose just below his cheek she let out a soft huff of air against the spot before giving him a light comforting nuzzle. "Though I hope to never run into these Azrein you speak of I promise." Horn lighting in a soft, warm and comforting glow, she ran her cheek against the side of his neck before stepping back a half a step to smile at him.
"You do not have to worry about me Varian. I'm swift enough to avoid an attack." The mare assured before giving off a soft laugh. "And this Sparrow is small, I could hide and wait for this great god to hear my call if things get out of hand." ((He's adorable<3 I'm starting to fall in love with him xD This honestly isn't how I saw the roleplay going, but Ahh it's amazing!))

♞x x x xL o r dxxV a r i a nx x x x♞ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Varian heard the doubt in Avari's words when he spoke of the humans, but he didn't press the matter. He respected her opinions, though he knew they had been skewed as a young child. However, that didn't make her wrong, and it certainly didn't make him right. As time went on, though, he hoped one day to show her that not all humans were monsters. Perhaps he could simply take her to the outskirts of a village in the future and let her watch the mothers caring for the children, and for the horses and sheep that lived on their lands. The stallion felt himself smile, and he checked himself with a shake of his antlered head. Stop thinking of the future. You have a Duty to perform, and that is to Bond to the King and ensure this war is stopped. Nothing else, just like your father before you. He did not allow himself to love for just that reason, and neither should you, Varian.
And yet Avari needed him, needed his strength to ease her fears to to protect her, keep her safe. He closed his eyes, grimacing. He couldn't allow it. If the Six ever found out about her -- provided their interaction lasted longer than a few days -- surely they would use her against him. His heart clenched. No. No, he couldn't risk her.
Varian was brought from his thoughts when he felt her breath against the line of his jaw, and his entire body went utterly still. He then felt her nuzzle him, and the stallion felt his chest swell, his heart fill with amber warmth, like the rays of sun peeking through storm clouds. As she pulled back, his blue eyes were riveted on her before he reluctantly dragged his gaze away, nodding once. "Alright. As long as I have your word." A smile lit his solemn features. "You do not strike me as the type to stand and be proud when dangers comes knocking in any case, Avari." Varian tilted his head to the side, his eyes shining with held-back laughter. "This God might not be as great as you believe, but I promise you that I will do all that is within my power to protect you."
A cold gust of wind sent the bells hanging from his antlers to violently chiming, and he ducked his head into the wind, immediately moving to step upwind of Avari, once more sheltering her with a large wing. "Come. The cave from my father's memories should be just up ahead." Their talk had made the time and distance pass swiftly; they were indeed within sight of the cave, and not a moment too soon. Varian nosed Avari on her neck as he picked up into a trot towards the mouth in the cliff face. As they passed the threshold, thunder boomed in the air outside, the smell of ozone permeated his nostrils and lightening flashed across the darkened skies.
Once they were safely inside, Varian focused his Will and the tines on his antlers began to glow with a soft, warm light. He smiled and gave himself a shake to settle his wings, grinning at Avari. "We made it just in time. Get comfortable; there should be some old pine needles against one of the walls from the last time my father stayed here. It should be plenty deep enough to serve as a cozy place to bed down."

Another soft laugh rose from her at his words, and she lowered her head gazed up at him out of the corner of her eyes her smile never faltering. She took no offense to his words, for it was true, it would be very strange the day she'd stand in the face of danger since she'd been taught that constant movement kept one safe, and her flight instincts were very strong. Now that was something Avari herself could never deny, even in jest. She was content to stand in this area with him, both in good spirits for a moment longer but the weather decided they'd had enough and remind her of the store they'd been expecting this whole walk. Ducking behind the wing he'd extended to block her from another violent gust, the mare gently brushed his hind leg in thanks before sending her gaze to search for the cave he'd mentioned. Though as he nosed her she picked up her pace to match his own, how strange he was, trusting the memories of another. But then again there seemed to be a lot about this stallion she would deem 'normal'.
Trotting through the entrance, her ears flattened quickly as a crack of thunder that echoed dully in the hollowed area, followed by lightening lighting the entire cave entrance for just a moment. Walking further in a few steps, she paused to shake the chill from her coat, and glanced back at him to see his horns illuminate with a beautiful pale light giving the area around him a kind of shimmer in her eyes. "Perfect timing." She agreed with a nod of her head before turning her gaze from him at the mention of a comfortable place to lay, she searched the ground using the light of his antlers eventually finding a surprisingly thick pile butted up against the right wall. Angled off enough to see the entrance, but deep enough to escape the reach of mother nature.
"It's over here Varian. It's not very wide but with a little arranging I'd sure it'd be able to accommodate both your frame and mine." Avari announced with a smile, stepping carefully into the pile of pine, her cloven hooves already beginning to knock lightly at the thicker edge butted up against the wall. Though she paused when her pawing of the bedding stirred up a unfamiliar scent, nostrils opening to take it in she felt a bit of sadness wash over her as the realization of who that was set in. She'd never met the late stallion before, but how she couldn't help but feel as if a part of her did through Varian's mind. Shaking the sadness from her mind she instead sent a quiet prayer to the Azrein in her mind and walked a few steps in a circle to face the stallions direction. Tipping her head slightly to the side, Avari let out a deep breath before speaking. "As long as it's alright with you. I don't wish to intrude and disturb a memory of your father."
Her words were sincere as she wasn't sure if something personal like this should be carelessly strewn about the floor. At least not with the proper permission. She felt like a visitor in another territory, and it was a strange feeling for the unicorn. Ears twitching lightly as the rain began to strike the ground harder followed by a few more brief and quick cracks of lightening. It was now that she realized how strange it is outside the forest she'd resided in for a month or so. The rain sounded harsher as it struck the rock-face outside, leaving a dull drumming to sound through the cave, so unlike the the soft pitter-patter of rain drops against the plush leaves. But she refused to dwell on that matter too long, aside from the sounds there was no less safe here then she would be hiding in the forest.

♞x x x xL o r dxxV a r i a nx x x x♞ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Varian's ears swiveled as the mare told him there'd be enough room for both of them. It wasn't that he was against the idea, but . . . well, it just didn't strike him as proper. They had just met, and he didn't want to take any sort of advantage of the mare, even if it would just be for warmth. He in no way wanted to make her uncomfortable, and he opened his mouth to try and tactfully explain his stance when she spoke of his father. The stallion's mouth snapped shut and he slowly strode over, his head low to the ground, nostrils flared.
Spice and comfort, with a tint of strength running through. His father. The stallion blinked, stunned, blue eyes roving over the soft clump of pine needles. He hadn't expected there to still be any trace of him left behind. Something within his chest seized, and the Azrein found his vision blurred by tears. Swallowing around the tightness in his throat, Varian let out a soft breath and closed his eyes, strengthening himself.
"No, little Sparrow." The stallion raised his pronged head and smiled down at Avari. "I do not mind, and neither does my father's spirit. He would want us to take all the comfort we can, especially in times like these." Take all the comfort we can . . .
Varian nodded to himself and began to spread the bedding with the help of his long antlers, ensuring it was deeper against the wall. Thunder boomed outside and he saw the mare's coat twitch. "You lay here, against the wall, Avari. I will lay closest to the entrance, so that I might keep watch while you rest and keep you safe." So saying, Varian dropped gracefully down to his knees, curling his legs beneath him, and lay proud and strong, powerful neck arched, eyes and ears trained on the mouth of the cave, a sentinel of the night. "Rest, little one, and tomorrow we will find a place that you might call home for a few days. I will protect you."

Avari had stepped carefully off of the bedding when Varian approached, her eyes searching his expression, and frowning at what she'd seen. Dropping her gaze to the needles below, a feeling of guilt gripping at her heart. She hadn't wanted to cause him sadness. Sides loosening in a quiet sigh she gave a nod at his words and once again began the task of arranging them around along with him, before carefully settling down in the dried bedding beside the wall. Lowering her nose to the ground she shifted the needles around for a moment her mind began to run wild.
She had so many questions welling up inside of her on what had happened to them back in the fields, but the thought of bringing it back up now bothered her. Even now when she tried to think back on everything she'd seen it was almost like she was trying to grasp at air. Lifting her eyes to glance over at his profile in the light of his horns, taking note of how handsome the stallion truly was. She'd never seen or encountered another being who appeared and acted the way he did. Breathing coming out in steady even breaths she listened to his words while she felt infinite amounts of curiosity well up inside of her about the other just wanting to break the surface. He was a god that had simply appeared out of now where and fell on her life. Yet where had he been prior to that, and why was it that he had he suddenly appeared? Resting her nose on the ground below, she again realized how tired her body really was. Closing her eyes, the unicorn pulled her thick tail close to her side as her bangs fell casually over eyes parted by her horn.
Rain lulling her mood with it's quiet drumming outside, Avari laid mind fighting off sleep as she sorted out her mind. She didn't wish for him be left alone the whole night, the least she could do was keep awake for company while she was able. "Thank you Varian. It's comforting, being able to know there's someone watching." She was sincere with her words, it'd been so long since she was able to relax and trust her safety to another. She used to switch off with her traveling companion, but ever since they'd settled in the glade he'd disappeared for nights on end. The unicorn had never felt so trusting towards another so quickly, and whether it was his actions and steady mindset that gave her the security or that fact she'd been able to gain that insight into his being she was glad her mind could rest easy for a night. Lifting her nose off the ground, Avari quickly blinked the tired feelings from her eyes, and nosed the side of his shoulder gently. She didn't wish to sleep just yet, the fear her mind would open the flood gate of all she'd blocked during their walk strong enough to put the idea of it off to her. Dreams were never a comfort to her, no matter how content she was in her waking body there were always dreams the plagued her mind as she was left exhausted and defenseless against them. Memories she was able to ignore during the day returned to remind her of the terrible mistake she'd made in her past. The unicorn hadn't simply invited the stallion to lay beside her out of kindness and for warmth but to have a presence but in hopes that the protection he promised her would extend to her dreams.
Ignoring her sleep she thought back on their meeting and recalled he'd mentioned needing to get to the eastern horizon, once more her curiosity spiked and she felt the need to speak, to keep conversation up for just a little longer at least. "I never did get the chance to ask you. But you had asked the way to the eastern horizon when we first met. If you don't mind, why were you trying to find your way towards that place and the humans?" Tipping her head lightly to the right, she glanced up at his face, her eyes questioning and curious. It baffled her that an Azrein would willingly walk into an area so densely populated. "I don't wish to keep you from something you need to do."

♞x x x xL o r dxxV a r i a nx x x x♞ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Varian flicked an elongated ear at Avari's question, blue eyes shining dimly in the light from his antlers. He was wary of explaining his destination to her -- not because he didn't trust her, but because he was worried that she would shun his company once his task had been completed. She so thoroughly distrusted humans that he didn't feel there was an elegant way around the topic, so he explained as best he could.
"I seek my Chosen, Avari." He nodded as she lifted her head, startled. "He is the King of the Isle, Azreth, who was Bonded to my father. I have --" He cut off, trying to frame his words so she would understand. "Part of my father lives on inside of me, Sparrow. I am his descendant, yes, but I am also him, in a way. Most Azrein have a Choice when finding a Chosen, but my human is my own. Though he has Bonded to another outside my father's blood, I am the one who completes his soul."
The stallion let out a weary sigh, nostrils flaring as he once again focused his gaze on the cave's opening, so she would not see the sadness, the unadulterated grief in his eyes. "Azreth is like no other human. He formed a Contract with a Demon -- one of the Highest in Hell -- to save his people, to save you and all of the other Azrein on this Isle. The Demon, by his command, had found a device the Six had planted in the castle that would have leveled the entire northern half of the Isle." He let that sink in. She, Eckar, and all the other Azrein and humans living beyond the Borro Hills would've been dead in an instant.
"But because his soul was so -- so pure, so clean, even after all of the pain he's gone through and the hard decisions he's made, the Demon broke the Contract. That has never before happened, but because of who Azreth is -- at the very core, the very center of his being -- the Demon Morpheus reneged on the Contract, damning himself to an eternity of pain, but allowing the boy King to live on to protect his people and the Azrein." Varian let out a gentle whuff of air, bowing his head. "The boy is ravaged by the weight of the crown -- the burden -- that he bears. He is not even twenty five summers, and he has had the mantle of responsibility thrust upon him. Without him, Avari, bad men, like the ones that took you, would hound all of us. Our children would not be safe, the Six would kill us all, and the humans themselves would be torn apart."
The stallion shifted his weight, draping his wing across her back in comfort. "I must go to him, Avari. Without me, he is broken beyond repair. No other Azrein has a Bond like he and Valdien had. He and my father were one of heart, soul, and mind. To have half of himself ripped away, sundered . . . " A shudder coursed through him that had nothing to do with the cold. "He needs me." The simple statement held the weight of the world behind it, and though he knew Avari might scorn him because of it, he could do nothing to change his destiny.

Safe, she should have realized a question like that could never exist. Heart tightening slightly, she turned his head from his direction to stare at the wall as his words echoed in her head. He was to bond, of course with the way he spoke of the humans on their walk over she should have realized but by the Earth mother she had hoped it would be other business. Holding her tongue for the beginning of his answer, the mare hoped he would keep it brief and leave this poor subject she'd opened. But it continued and she shot her ears back eyes darting to stare at his profile when she learned of the danger that the land she'd lived in had been in, and for a moment she felt a sting of bitterness wishing it had happened just for the humans that had been around her to perish. With a sharp intake a breath Avari paused in shock as that even crossed her mind. Head lowering a bit in shame for her selfish thoughts she frowned, there were many lives that didn't deserve to be lost in such a way, and though she hated them, the unicorn could care less for their presence as long as she was left alone.
Though this King, just thinking of the pain Varian's mind had forced upon her stirred a bit of pity in her heart. It had nearly consumed her in the time she had with it. To still be standing while experiencing something like that took strength, though she doubted the sincerity of his words when he spoke of this mans character. All she'd learned from her mothers mouth and her own experiences made it hard to believe that anyone out there could do something just out of kindness and love. Nose tilting towards the ground she hid her eyes behind her fallen bangs. She felt a deep sadness at his words, perhaps she had thought they'd be able to see each other again after she'd left his company, but to carry another's soul when bonded made it hard for her to imagine an Azrein being able to stray far from the human. Feeling the air stir over her back she tried to feel the same comfort she'd felt on their walk, but only felt the same twinge of sadness that hung over her.
"I understand you must. Though I'm sorry to hear it." She spoke, her voice hiding the sadness beneath. Avari was unsure how she should respond to all of that. Ears staying pinned to her fur she kept her face shrouded by her hair, she should have avoided this topic. Drawing in a deep breath the mare blinked the disappointment from her eyes and lifted her head, to look at him with what she'd hoped was kindness. "If this man is in such pain, you should go to him Lord Varian. I doubt anything will come looking for me, I'm sure you've moved me far enough from the Six's search." There was no point delaying this, to get attached to the company of this stallion would be wrong. After all, this was simply an arrangement they had because the danger had come about. If things had gone normally they would have parted ways an hour ago. Before that happened she hoped he would answer one more question, lest she be left to wonder on her own in silence. "Are you in pain? I mean what I felt in that Soulgaze, was it yours?"

♞x x x xL o r dxxV a r i a nx x x x♞ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Varian's heart seized at the mare's words. He knew she wouldn't have liked it. He wished he had lied to her, to tell her that it was something else to -- no. No, he would never lie to this mare. Other Azrein, yes, perhaps. People, yes, if the need arose. But to her . . . he could no more cut off his own wings than lie to this angel.
"Yes, Avari," his voice was thick with emotion. "That was my pain." Varian's eyes fluttered closed as he swallowed. It was his, his father's, the King's . . . but he was one with them. He had such sorrow, such grief within him . . . and she spoke as if she wanted nothing more to do with him. The stallion fumbled for words. "Avari . . . I could no more leave you than refuse my Bond. I will fly to the other end of the Isle each day so that I might see you. My father --" He cut off and turned to look at her.
"My father did not allow himself to love, to have a family besides his Bonded. He was too afraid, because he knew that he would die before he grew old. But . . . But after meeting you, I cannot reject what my heart feels. I do not want to sever ties with you, little Sparrow. I want to keep you safe, to protect you, to make you happy and keep you warm." The stallion swallowed around the tightness in his throat. "Please do not spurn me. If you never want to meet my human, then that is fine, but I cannot think of not being there for you."
He was scared -- more terrified than his father had been before he died. He wanted nothing more than to reject his Bond if it meant he could stay with Avari, but that alone would kill him. Yet so would he take his own life, Bond or no, if anything ill befell this sweet, beautiful mare before him. The stallion pulled her into a rough hug with his wings, tucking her neck beneath his jaw, blue eyes closed. "Avari, I swear to you that I will always be there to keep you safe if you will not turn aside my heart. But there is no way that I can refuse this Bond without it killing me. It is my destiny, and to shirk from my Duty would simply . . . unravel who I am, what I am."
He cursed himself for being a God. One of Duty, one of Sacrifice. And so soon, he was being tested. If she did not want him beside her, then he would accept her will, sacrifice his own feelings, and once he saw her safely to where she wanted to go, he would leave and go to his King. But it nearly broke him just thinking about it. "I cannot change this about myself, but I can and I will do everything in my power for you. You will never see the boy King, I shall never speak of him if that is your desire. But I would not want to trade you for him."

She felt such sadness and it confused her, to have only known this Azrein for such a short time, Avari hadn't expected to be so affected by him, or his words, but it remained. Eyes staying hard through his words she tried to close her ears to him, ignore those words so that they might not sway her. How could she expect someone to manage something as silly as that, but she found ear twisting in his direction after a moment, her heart tightening as tears built in her eyes. A part of her wished to believe his words, that there was someone who saw her as someone worth that. But there was also a part of her that wished to remain closed in disbelief, how could someone feel so strongly in so short a time.
Lost in the sound of his sweet words, she lifted her eyes to his when he stopped, wishing she could think of a way to express her own feelings but failing. Mind running in circles, she longed to open her mouth and tell him of how she wished he would keep her close as he promised, protect her in a way she knew no one else could. Though her mind told her to sever this attachment now, how could she be kept hidden from the other half of his soul? No doubt danger would follow that path, but all thoughts were cut off as she was suddenly pulled closer to his body and tucked beneath his chin. Closing her eyes tightly, her body shook lightly against his side and she tilted her head to the side resting it against his strong neck. Feeling the tears she'd been fighting spill over as her heart sped, Avari shivered desperately wanted to believe him and his words. She felt so safe at his side, something she hadn't felt in a long time.
"I-I don't.." She started before closing her eyes, her mind trying to straighten out a response, but all she felt was surprise and the ever present confusion. "Varian, I don't want you to leave.. It's strange to say but there's something about you that makes me want you to stay even in your urgency." Nuzzling his neck lightly she sighed. "I must be such a selfish mare. I wouldn't think twice about your human's pain if you remained by my side. But if it also pains you, I must insist you go to him." Eyes closing, Avari stilled her head against him, a bit of pain striking her as she tried to send him away. Even though she put up a front she was desperately afraid of that band of Azrein somehow finding her hiding place and attacking while he was away. "Perhaps I will walk with you as far as I am able? Just please don't leave tonight.."

♞x x x xL o r dxxV a r i a nx x x x♞ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Varian felt her shaking against him, his Empathy feeling her doubt, her fears, and the bright beacon of hope within her heart. His breathing became deep, steady, as he did not move, simply holding her against him as she spoke. He thought of a course of action as he listened to her words, and he felt joy blossom in his breast.
"Avari, I will not leave you. Not tonight, nor any night thereafter. You need not meet my human, but I shall tell him of someone who needs a safe place to shelter whilst I am away, who cannot be known of or be bothered, unless their life is in danger." He pulled back from her, blue eyes bright in the darkness, horns pulsing with their glow. "There is a place half a mile beyond the stables that my father and my human created several years past -- it was a place they both escaped to, where no one could find nor bother them. You can stay there; it is in dense woods, like the place you called home."
He closed his eyes, lowered his walls slightly, and Projected his father's memory towards Avari. A sunlit forest, dappled in the day's radiance, thick, lush ground under hoof, and safe canopy above. Small creatures bounded about, untouched and unafraid of human hands, for none ever ventured there. A small stream chuckled gaily beside a wayward pine, its boughs dropping, creating a natural shelter, enclosed on all sides and large enough for five grown Azrein to take comfort in its embrace. The stallion opened his eyes, a smile on his features, and he nudged her cheek with his nose before pulling his walls back up.
"You can stay there, Avari, and I will only be a five-minute flight from you at any time. If you ever have need of me, even if you only wish to seek comfort in my presence, all you need do is call for me." He smiled down at her then, and it was as if the sun itself had emerged from the clouds of a violent storm."My human will never trouble you, nor will anyone else unless you wish it. Would that be suitable to your liking, my little Sparrow?"

It was strange how his words could make her so happy, leaning off his neck when he pulled back she looked up at him with a smile, her own eyes shining at the joy she saw reflected in his own. The thought of living so close to the one place she'd avoided for so long sent a jolt of panic through her, racing her heart and catching her breath. Though she placed her trust in him, willing to make the trip to these woods he spoke of, wondering just what would lie in wait for her at the end of this journey.
Watching him close his eyes and go silent, she tipped her head lightly to the right and started to ask him what was wrong before she felt a warm feeling enter her mind, followed by images that remained just out of sight willing her to follow suit. Closing her blue eyes she smiled at the woodlands that were sent her way, they were beautiful, that was no lie. But that didn't matter to her, it was that fact it had appeared so peaceful. How anything like this was placed so close humanoid lived baffled her beyond anything. Feeling him close his memory off to her, she remained eyes closed for a moment longer as her own memory recreated the image giving her a second look as she tried to imagine herself walking amongst the land. Opening her eyes as his nose rubbed her cheek, she leaned lightly into it before smiling up at him as he pulled away.
"It is almost too much to believe." She laughed her eyes glittering as her new happiness shown through. "But so close to that castle. I wish to believe I would be left alone, to believe you. I will travel with you whenever you think it's safe to look for my own eyes, though what you showed me is too perfect for words. I hope it still remains." Smiling, Avari leaned forward to nose just below his cheek, her heart feeling lighter in this moment then it had moments before. "Besides, I'm sure I can feel safe in such an area if I know I have you somewhere nearby Varian."

♞x x x xL o r dxxV a r i a nx x x x♞ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ The stallion felt his breath catch in his throat as she spoke his name. He felt as if his name was not worthy to fall from her mouth, not worthy to even be thought of by one such as she. His Sparrow was all that he could ever want in a mare, and yet he was filled with a terrible, terrifying fear. If his enemies ever knew that he cared for her so . . . but, no. No one would know of her, save Azreth. Ironically, the ones she needed to fear most were those of her own kind, not the two-leggers, the humans.
He grimaced. He would have to make her fear those Turned by the Six. With War brewing, it was a dead fact that they would send spies to the north -- it was only a matter of time until they got close enough to the High Circle. The stallion's nostrils flared as a peal of thunder boomed, lightning flashing across the opening of the cave in the night. He let out a soft sigh, wishing that he could make this world safe for Avari. He wanted nothing more than to have the Isle be a wholesome, peaceful place where she could run and run, and forget everything that had ever happened to her amongst sunlight and star-lit nights. He made a soft sound in the back of his throat as he fully enveloped her in his wings.
"Avari, I will make this world safe for you. I will destroy every threat so that you might be at peace, and that your children will be able to live their lives without fear of their own kind or the humans. I promise you that I will protect you and your children, no matter what comes or does not come of us. I shall forever be vigilant in my watch, so that your heart may find succor and a semblance of peace while the world is not yet safe for you." He swallowed the lump in his throat. "And I swear to you that one day, the strife in this land shall be extinguished, the blight on its surface removed, so that you may run as far and as fast as your hooves will take you, at peace and in comfort."
The rain outside came down harder, thunder and lightning emphasizing his words. The promise of a Deity was not something to be taken lightly, and he vowed to himself that no matter what happened, he would do anything and everything in his power to keep her safe, to keep her happy. "You should sleep, little Sparrow, for we have a walk ahead of us in the morning." He would stand watch for the remainder of the night, to make sure that nothing troubled her. "If you are worried, I shall lay beside you so that I might shelter you beneath my wing." He smiled down at her, rubbing his cheek against hers tenderly.
"You are safe tonight, Avari. Nothing will disturb you -- not even your dreams, for I shall keep the nightmares at bay for my Sparrow."

A shiver ran straight through her at his words, her heart picturing the world he was promising her, and her mind yearning to believe in them. Blinking tears from her eyes, she returned his touch softly, before she nuzzling lightly into his chest as he pulled away. "You are more then a unicorn like myself could ever deserve Varian. You are far too kind." She smiled up at him, before her head lowered to rest comfortably in the bedding. "Perhaps I can believe in this king if he holds half of your soul. For I cannot see you harboring an ill thought against anyone."
Maybe, just maybe she will find the peace she desperately searched for in the glad he'd shown her if she knew she was being watched over by his eyes. Yawning quietly against the ground, she shifted her weight to lean a bit against him feeling content in his protection and thankful her words hadn't made him leave. She truly was a selfish mare, but if it meant being able to sleep under his protection she would not be able to feel any guilt. Perhaps the moon knew of their meeting when it'd lured her from the safety of her forest, for she felt infinitely safer here then she ever had under the canopy of her home.
Feeling her mind slowly lost the waking world as her body relaxed and breath evened out, a gentle smile curved her lips as she spoke a soft, "thank you.." She didn't know how he would protect her from her dreams, but Avari knew her faith was well placed, for she could see nothing bad happening while she was in his presence. Allowing herself to fall into the land of dreams that had been waiting to claim her as she'd fought it's grasp through their talk, her horn glowing with a faint blueish hue in time with her quiet breaths.

♞x x x xL o r dxxV a r i a nx x x x♞ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Afaint smile curved the stallion's lips as he stood guard, occasionally turning his head to check on the mare. He couldn't help himself -- he took in the gentle curve of her jaw, her small, delicate nose, her lithe and supple frame. The ruff of fur around her neck was marred by that rope, and Varian felt a frown crease his brow. One day, he would get that bedamned thing from around her flawless form. Something so ugly did not belong on her. His gaze traveled down her back, her flanks, and ended on her hindquarters. Softly, gently, he traced the scars there with the very tip of his wing, blue eyes saddened. Whoever, whatever did that to her . . . if he ever saw them, he would kill them for what they had done.
And he knew the boy King would be beside him, sword in hand, meting out proper Justice.
That gave Varian a measure of comfort -- small though it was -- and with a curt nod to himself, returned his watchful gaze to the mouth of the cave. In the morning, he would take Avari to a safe, secure place, and he would watch over her for as long as he could, for the rest of her life if she wished it. With that comforting thought, the stallion allowed his mind to go blank, focusing on doing nothing more than keeping her at ease this night

Varian stretched his wings, leaning his head down to nuzzle the white mare on her rounded cheek. "Wake now, little Sparrow. We've distance to put beneath our hooves, and the sun has awakened from its slumber."

Avari had never had such a sound sleep for as long as she could remember, the nightmares of her mistakes and the pain of what she'd seen in his mind had not touched her. She'd been granted a dream she'd never experienced before, family both old and new surrounded her in a land she'd only imagined. A world she found difficult to give up. Feeling the touch draw her away from all she'd ever dreamed of, Avari turned her head to bury it in his side so she may return to her slumber. She made a quiet noise in her throat as he spoke sweetly calling her back to the world.
Lifting her head slowly she yawned before blinking in sun that streamed through the entrance of the cave. Shaking out her mane, the mare smiled up at him, glad that he had remained with her. "If only the sun could have slumbered for a moment longer, I'm afraid I don't ever want to rise." The unicorn spoke as she shifted her weight away from him, eyes twinkling happily up at him. Her mind felt so light this morning, something she'd missed greatly. Arching her neck in a quick stretch, she attempted to shake the fog of sleep from her once more. Tail streaming out behind her, she slowly rose from under his wings, shaking the clinging needles from her coat and glancing out towards the interrupting sun, her body already missing the warmth of his own. "Though I supposed if I don't get up I never will." She would have lazed around most of the day in her dreams if it allowed.
"It is far journey Varian?" The mare wondered, her tail swaying behind her as she stepped off of the inviting bedding that tried to call her back to it's embrace.
