"I'm learning though," Madeline said breathlessly, huffing as she realigned herself, Arsen jittering like a shark in her head. "You're really good, anyways!" She said, with just a hint of envy underneath her smile and admiration.
+10 admiration points. Ami-senpai, you are so awesome and kawaii.
Shifting her handle on Arsen again, Madeline shifted her weight, playing with the hold on the weapon, the way it felt in her hands. The surge of power she'd been given was a welcome gift, but now she'd have to make do without it.
Aw well, she could do this. Maybe.
Cocky? Yeah, Ami, just a little.
Lunging forward, Madeline stretched her legs out, dipping to the side as her hands twisted, Arsen coming at Ami from the side this time. Slowly, she was starting to get a feel for handling him.
( Handling me? Oh, baby, baby. ) Arsen laughed in her head.
Madeline bit back a giggle. Shut up.

Ami was so distracted by Junpei screaming in her head that Madeline got yet another hit on her. Okay this wasn't cool. She wouldn't admit it to the girl, lest it go to her head, but she was totally getting her a** kicked by a person below her. Oh hell no.
With a grimace, she twisted Junpei around and slammed him into the air, swinging a golden tidal wave- quite literally- of energy in Madeline's direction.

Madeline landed on her a**.
Yep.
Like a newb.
"Ow!" Propping herself up on her knees, Madeline wasted no time in snatching Arsen back and popping to her feet, puffing her cheeks. Okay, Ami had gotten her good that time. Like, really good. Here goes nothing, She thought, shifting the club in her hands again and bursting forward for another attack, Arsen jeering in her head to attack harder, get back up, stop being such a little wimp.

Ami carried the momentum of her last attack, spinning in a circle, small movements with her feet. She pulled Junpei low, and swept Madeline's feet out from under her. It was all a single fluid movement. At this point in time, Junpei had really just become an extension of her body. An awkward one that failed to work at times, but they were getting there. Someday they might actually work as a team. Probably not today though.
With a single kick of her legs, she put a boot on the girl's chest and held Junpei inches from Madeline's neck.

Ami was panting from the exertion though, but she got out, "Do you get it?"

Madeline gritted her teeth, staring up at Ami and trying not to get her throat sliced open. I cant. She thought miserably. Arsen's anger was palpable in her brain, but what was she supposed to do? Piss Ami off even more? And anyways. Get it? Get what? Ami was kind of a cryptic girl, and Madeline was smart, but she wasn't exactly people smart.
"Ah," Madeline tilted her eyes up at Ami. "Cockiness is going to get me killed?"

"So some things do get through that stupidly thick skull of yours," Ami said, desummoning Junpei and stepping off the girl. She took a few steps back, giving the girl a little bit of breathing room.
< That was a bit harsh. >
"On the battle field people are going to kick your a**, and hard. Halloween creatures don't let opportunities fly by- they'll extort your every weakness." A little more bitterly, she added, "Believe me, I know."
There was no kind hand offered to help Madeline up. She'd have to do it herself. "How are the books going?"

"The skulls of women are naturally thicker than mens," Madeline rasped, rolling over on her stomach and using Arsen - who was blatantly ignoring her - to prop herself up. "But I get it." She responded, slowly heaving herself to her feet and leaning on the mace's hilt.
"I'll try harder." Madeline said, rubbing the back of her neck. "I know there's still a lot to get down."
And fast.
Unfortunately for Ami, Madeline's cockiness was only bruised today. Unfortunately for Madeline herself, it wasn't something so easily kicked away.
"Oh!" Madeline smiled at the change of topic, rubbing her jaw with the palm of her hand. "Really good; some of them are pretty much recovered. They're all going to have scars but hey, they're getting there." She talked about the books like people, waving a hand and smiling even though her weapon was practically brooding in her head.
Christ, Arsen was going to be the goddamned death of her with his attitude like that.

Ami adjusted the clip that was Junpei on her head so it fit more soundly on her head. For some odd reason, when she desummoned it never seemed to go back into just the right position. Stupid clip.
"Don't tell me about how hard you'll try and how great you'll be," Ami said, rolling her eyes. "Frankly, I don't care, and secondly, it's probably not true." Nobody improved overnight just by dedicating to DO THEIR BEST. What a load of cliche bullshit.
Ami winced when Madeline said her books would have "scars," but there was no helping it. Ami really WAS grateful for the help, she just didn't know how to show it. "Can I ... see your progress?" she asked timidly, but sternly.

De-summoning Arsen, Madeline slid the bracelet over her wrist and stretched her hands above her head, glancing at Ami in between a groan as bones popped and cracked. "I didn't say anything about being great," She retorted. But one day she'd be better. Ha.
Arsen still wasn't saying a word. ********.
"Oh," Madeline blinked at the question, quirking a brow. "Sure, doll!" She laughed and said teasingly, "will you give me another spar in return?" before gesturing for Ami to follow her back to the book hospital to prove she wasn't secretly setting all of the intermediate's books on fire just for kicks.
