It was hard to answer that question. In truth, Riley didn't know if she wanted to hear anything at all about her past self anymore. The mere idea that it could trigger her return made a shudder of disgust pass through her. But she'd already agreed to the conversation, and all she needed was to find the safest answer.
So she chose something that she knew the answer to, already.
What was it about her that attracted people to her? Attracted you? What was so special about Riley?
She settled in to listen politely.

"For the others? Her confidence." Amrita had no doubt that was the reasoning behind everyone else's like of Riley. The ghoul had an air to her, and it was hard to get past it. Though she had somewhat answered the question, the Patchwork looked as though she had more to say, but was somewhat embarrassed by it; for a moment she looked like a ghoul about to admit a crush.
"B-but...for me..." Her head tilted, looking away as her hands twisted her hair over her shoulder. "It's because she cared." Still she avoided eye contact, feeling weird to admit this to someone who, despite all of her boastings, was still too much like Riley to get passed. "She was kind to me from the first moment we met. She helped me and put her mind on the line to explore mine...she made herself uncomfortable trying to help a useless little ghoul, one that she had just met." Useless was an understatement to how she felt back then - and to some degree even now - but it was the only word she could think to use. "And she kept helping me. She didn't mind that she was the one I turned to when I needed help, and...and she even rushed to my rescue once, when Christof hit me." Her hand moved to cup her own cheek, remembering the sting though it happened well over a year ago. "I never felt like a burden to her, and she always made me feel like I was the most important person in the room, even though I'm not worth the dirt I sleep on."
"That is what made Riley special. She was always selfless." Amrita really did hold her on a high pedestal.

Riley listened very carefully, and nodded when appropriate. As expected, she'd already known the answer. It was nice to hear her former self had been doing such a good job, though. She leaned in and patted Amrita's hand gently, giving her a stern look. You are not useless. Even I know that. There is no sense in arguing the matter. She chuckled, and her eyes crinkled with mirth. I cannot make a promise that I will be the same kind of friend you had with her. But I want to try. I hope I do not disappoint you. Coming to me with your honesty already makes me want to retain our friendship. Her hand squeezed Amrita's. I hope that I don't let you down.

Well, that certainly sounded like Riley.
A grey eye lifted from their hands to the Mindflayer's face, offering a little smile but no answer. No, she knew she wasn't useless, but she wasn't useful either. It was one of those seeminly impossible steeps that she had yet to conquer. She knew what she could do, she just couldn't grasp how it was helpful in any way. Yet it was still nice to hear.
"You won't disappoint me~" It was her turn to pat the ghoul's hand, still feeling quite strange about it. "I'm sure we'll be good friends, you and I." She gave her hand a light squeeze, and then shifted a little on the bed. "But ah...I guess I should go. I kinda...err, well I skipped class to be here." Amrita gave a nervous laugh, rubbing the back of her neck. It wasn't often she skipped, but this had been bothering her.
"I'll visit you again, though! If you don't mind."

Riley sucked in a soft, mock gasp at the mention of missing class, but it was clear she wasn't actually scandalized, and she gave the ghoul a soft nod. Of course. Anytime. Your presence is a pleasure, in a world I find severely lacking.
She stood, holding Amrita's hand. But no more skipping classes. Knowledge is power. She bent in, and pulled the ghoul into a light, friendly hug. Thank you for coming to see me, Amrita.

The mocking gasp actually made her cheek darken with a blush, looking down sheepishly. Yes, missing class made her such a rebel; but for her it was kind of a big deal. She really did try to get in on everything, but it seemed she could and often did fall up short.
"I-I make no promises!" Amrita tried to joke, chuckling awkwardly. This time she didn't shy away from the hug and in fact leaned into it, returning it as lightly as it was given. "You're welcome, thanks for having me~" After that they came to show her out of the building, making them part ways...for now.
