The sky was practically bleeding red, the remains of what perhaps might have been a hotel a thick crimson-black.
'Right' Mark's voice buzzed from the headset as the scanners in the trainee's possession made a strange crackling noise, 'I've set the scanners to Fear only, shouldn't be a huge issue. We're going to need you to go inside though to get a better look. Get inside through any entrance and I'll give you like, further instructions okay?'
And when Mark said 'any entrance', it really meant any of the holes that littered the teetering excuse of a building: the entire side was practically caving in, the wooden boards torn and half-collapsed. If felt as if even the barest signs of resistance would send the entire 'hotel' into pieces of brittle, broken shards of wood. Inside, the hallways were just as heavily damaged, the graffiti itself really creating only one path for the trainees. It stopped as it hit a dead end, though the stairs upwards looked just as uncompromising, broken and extremely fragile.
A strange graffiti sigil stood at the base of the dead end hallway:
Unlike the other spraypainted signs, this one seemed freshly made.
'Look for'- a louder crackle from the headset and then a strange interference, a high-pitched static noise - 'Trap doors below? I think there should be-' Another crackle again and then-
- A low clicking noise coming from the headset, repeating itself over and over again. Click. Click. Clickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclick.
It was already dark outside.

Aleister was okay until the high pitched noises and then the clicking. He pulled the headset away from his ears for a second and looking around slightly panicked. "Oh god we're in a horror movie."
Yup good time to start to worry Al figured. They walked right into one of those horror movies. He looked at Wilson and Kat, actually he'd summoned Pookie about the time they'd set foot in the hotel. Wondering if they felt the same way... dark outside and now it sounded like the headsets weren't going to work.
He was tapping the headset...
< Very brave of you..... start panicking the moment something looks like it's going to go bad.....> Pookie seemed unamused at the sudden turn of panic Al was displaying.

All Kat could do was grin as Mark went on about her being the spawn of the devil. "It would be nice to mingle with the family again. Maybe I can drag you down under for a family visit sometime, eh, Mark?" Waving Wilson off, she shook her head. "He's just upset that I bested him once before." Attention shifting to Aleister, the hunter grinned again. "Aww, don't worry hunny. I'll protect you from the beasties as best I can."
When notified if the headsets, and that Mark would be instructing them over it, Kat wondered just how accurate his instructions would be. "Right.." This would prove to be..interesting.
--
Following the others over, Kat folded her arms, wrinkling her nose when Mark's voice came over the headset. So they head to get past this..maybe she could just blast it down or something? No? Probably best she didn't. Hearing Aleister call to them, Kat followed the hunter over, patting him on the back when he located an opening for them. "Nice!" Thanks to Aleister, getting through the fence was no problem at all, and no fire power was needed to blast a hole through the damned thing. Now, they were free to move on.
Taking in her surroundings, Kat couldn't get over the colour of the sky, and the state of the remains of the hotel before them. If someone breathed, the building would possibly crumble down. "Inside, right." So they would have to go into the structurally unsafe building after all. Well, at least getting 'in' to the building was no problem, what with all the holes in it. "I don't suppose its your idea to get us all crushed by a building, is it Mark?" She joked, carefully moving over the rubble.
Some of the graffiti in the building was impressive, and some..not so much. One in particular got her attention though. Moving to inspect the strange graffiti sigil, it appeared to be more recent than the rest.
Cringing when the high-pitched static interrupted Mark's voice, the sun hunter struggled to listen for Mark's instructions. Look for--? Look for what? Trap doors? What? She didn't like the sound of that.
Pausing at the sound of 'clicking' on the headset, Kat looked to the others, hopeful that either of them would have a better idea of what was going on. The fact that it was dark out, made her a little jumpy. At least her glowsticks gave them a little bit of lighting..
In any case, Xedis was summoned just as a caution.

Wilson grinned at Aleister as he located an opening. “Nice one.” He glanced up at the completely-red sky just before he slipped through the hole. The trainee gave the sky a second, wary look before he headed for the hotel. He silently listened to Mark’s voice over the headset while the scanners made crackling noises. Wilson didn’t appear surprised at the instructions. “Okay.”
He took a delicate step into the hotel. The remains were weak. One false move and it was like the entire building would collapse on them. His steps were slow and careful, but eventually they encountered a dead end. Wilson stared at the stairs, the corner of his lips twitching. He looked around at the graffiti and leaned over to see the particular piece Kat focused on. His eyes narrowed as he leaned forward to inspect the sigil closely. It appeared to be recently made, and—Mark’s voice crackled over the headset again. Wilson frowned at the static noise. “Mark? There’s static—…” He pressed his lips into a thin line as he turned toward Kat and Aleister. “He said to look for trapdoors, right? Where do you want to look? Do you want to look separately or in a group?”
He turned toward the stairs. “We can look around this floor for a bit more and then go up the stairs.”

"It might b-be best to stay together....." Aliester answered quietly looking around almost worried at what could happen. Eyes traveling to the stairs. ".... Are the stairs even safe?"
The blonde hunter was really keen on looking for anything up stairs when the building already looked like it could crumble. "Trap doors are.... uh... normally in the floor right?" He asked looking around trying to see if he could see anything that looked like it might be a trap.

Though there were indeed, stairs, the lack of lighting made the tattered outlines practically impossible to see, it looked like Mark had forgotten, once again, to give the trainees something that might have really, made this mission a lot easier: a flashlight.
'- Anyone still there?' Thankfully, the trainees had all the time to gripe to him as his voice returned back on the headset. 'Okay, um, someone say something back, so I know you're not like, all dead or something.' There was a soft sigh that sounded very much like 'Not again', that was really not that soft nor subtle when being muttered through a rather sensitive state-of-the-art headset set. 'If anyone is alive, check the floor underneath you, you'll need to break open a door to underneath, the last one kinda sorta caved in.'
That explained so much yet so little.
It was actually painfully obvious that there was indeed something underneath the trainees, just from the way the floorboards shifted: dipping downwards at times dangerously. Further inspection was difficult in the extremely poor lighting: the only saving grace would be the natural glow of any summoned weapon.
Creak.
The sudden noise came from behind, faint and yet painstakingly obvious. Another long hallway, the same as any of the others except for one small yet significant exception.
Light was flickering on and off at the end of the hallway.

Kat took one look at the stairs before shaking her head and folding her arms. "You couldn't pay me to walk up those stairs. They look like they would collapse just by touching them." No thank you. "In any case, I'm up for whatever you guys decide," minus climbing the stairs "be it search alone, in a group, yada yada yada." She waved her hand to make her point.
Waiting on orders from their 'team leader', Wilson, Kat nearly jumped when Mark's voice broke the silence. "Yes, you idiot! We're still alive! Why wouldn't we be?" She growled back over the headset. "Oh and wise guy--send a bloody flash light with us next time. We don't have built in night vision you know." Grumbling something incoherent, Kat followed Mark's instructions and proceeded to check the floor beneath them. Well, whadya' know. At least one instruction from the idiot death hunter was helpful. "Its here." She answered to let him know.
So how were they supposed to bust this trap door open? A piece of furniture, they could all jump on it--and fall to their death, depending on how far down it was--maybe shoot it?
:You want to shoot everything.: Well..not everything.
Her attention was redirected to a sound from behind. Guns at the ready, Kat scanned the area for anything that stood out. "Eh, Mark. Do you know if there is anything else here, aside from us?"
The light flickering down the hall did not bring the sun hunter any comfort. Something was definitely there. OR, she was going crazy. She never did care for the dark.

Aleister fumbled with the fear meter for a second when the floor started moving, "Marrrkkkkk what did you get us into!?" He asked almost wailing trying to get the fear meter to work. That better be an actual animal and oh god floors only moved like this in movies and cartoons. Or maybe Aleister just thought the floor was moving with that flickering light and how rickety the floor was already.

Wilson cracked an uneasy smile at Mark’s voice. “Wow, Mark. You make me feel so at ease in this rundown hotel,” he muttered as he took another look around before he sighed and finally summoned his weapon. It would be a pain to look around with a mask, but the glow would be a welcome change. “I’d like to second Kat and ask for flashlights next time around.” He mumbled under his breath before he slipped on the mask. The trainee tried to reassure Aleister. “Just chill. Everything’s….fine…” His voice trailed off when he heard a sound behind him. Slowly, Wilson turned around and stared at the flickering lights.
He hummed before stating the obvious, “Well, that’s probably not good.” Wilson took a step back. “How about…we move to a different area or something?”

"- this- feed- way-"
The voice was not coming from the headset instead, slowly streaming from the furthest end of the hallway, where the light still continued to flicker oddly on and off.
'What?' Echoed Mark on the headset. 'There's nothing in a different area, just below, the Fear source is coming a little below at point-' Everything began to crackle and fizz again just as the voice down the hallway grew louder, more agitated.
"-echos - cry - "
A second voice joined the first, the two chanting almost in unison, the voices louder still, clearer, the lights flickering erratically now from the other room as two shadows burst out of the room-
- Everything burst into blinding white light and the shrill noise of something screaming, yelling - and-
-"AHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH." Thankfully, the guy down the end of the hallway had finally dropped his overwhelmingly bright flashlight so it was now pointing up and not at the trainee group.
The second guy who had also emerged from the room pulled up his scanning goggles, slapping the first guy on the back. "Dude Larry, calm down, its just some kids."
"Kids." Echoed Larry, the chubbier, one, wearing the plaid shirt. "You've got to be shitting me, kids, in here?"
The floorboards creaked loudly as Larry crossed the distance, practically breathing, heavily, in front of Wilson's team. "Look, you guys gotta get out, this place isn't safe for you guys, there might be like," He raised both hands into the air, "Serious stuff going on here."
"Serious stuff." The other, lankier guy echoed in the background, picking up his dropped camcorder and the flashlight. "And yeah um, get out cuz we were here first."

"We can't go somewhere else, since what we need is here." She answered in a hushed tone. Keeping her gaze locked on the strange light, she listened quietly as the sounds grew louder. "Shut up Mark!" Kat hissed, straining to hear the voices down the hall.
When the light got closer, and brighter, Kat raised her weapons, ready to fire on the target. The yelling and screaming was enough for her to lower her guns, however. "Oh for the love of--" De-summoning her weapons, Kat folded her arms across her chest and glared at the two boys.
Kids? If she had one more person call her a kid, she was going to give them a new mouth. "I'm 20, you idiot." Her tone bordering irritation--wait no. She was irritated.
"Strange things? Like what?" The hunter raised a brow, unsure if they were stuck in some nerdy game of theirs. She was going to kill Mark for sure when this was all done.
"Hah!" She laughed, sneering at the lanky male. "We're not going anywhere, so just try and make us leave!"
Turning away from the two, she looked to Wilson and Aliester, keeping her voice barely audible to prevent the other two from hearing. "Okay, so what Mark said is that we need is to go down below--the trap door is obviously our entry point, but.." She paused, glancing over her shoulder at the two before returning her gaze to the other hunters. "What do we do about them?"
Pausing again, she waited a moment before adding "I can shoot them?" Obviously she was joking, but still. They needed a plan here.

Aleister was watching where the voices were coming from and then when he could see that they were just two guys he sighed. He let Kat do the talking though, "Hm..."
"They maybe.... 'ghost hunters'." Aliester said back in a lower voice, "If I remember the crazy people my parents called in to try to 'fix' my problem after the whole shrink thing didn't work." He rolled his shoulders.
He was looking at Wilson, "You don't have sleeping gas do you?" He was eying gramps when he said this.

“Mark, I wish you gave us better headsets or something,” he mumbled to himself, “Maybe the reception is bad?” Wilson tried not sigh with exasperation as he stood next to Kat and stared at the trap door. The flickering lights and voices were not helping eith—voices? He slowly turned toward the source and craned his neck forward. Wilson leaned back slightly at the bright light, but once he realized they had stumbled upon civilians made a point to quickly de-summon his weapon and tote his goggles around his neck.
He raised an arm and piped up after Kat had spoken, “I’m going to be 23 in a couple weeks, so I don’t think I’m a kid either.” The trainee calmly smiled at the two men as he watched Larry cross the hallway. “Serious stuff, hm?” Wilson leaned toward Aleister and nodded his head at the blond. “Sounds plausible,” He answered quietly then cracked an amused grin. “Unfortunately, no.” Wilson spoke in a louder voice, “If it’s so serious, then why are you two here in…what’s this place called again?”
Wilson lightly elbowed Kat. “Very funny, but let’s not shoot the civilians okay?” he muttered. “We can try to get them to leave—unlikely—or just let them be, I suppose. I wonder if we can knock them out and drag them back outside.” He began to seriously consider this option while walking over to the trap door and placing a careful, light step on it.

The guy with the camera rolled his eyes while the other guy - Larry - pushed his comrade aside. "Jim, let me handle this. Okay, let me explain this to you in a way that you simpletons might understand. You are in serious, serious danger here. This is a ghost hotspot, and I know you guys think ooh, you're old now, gonna play that game, prove you're cool to your girlfriend over there, but the fact is, there is some serious s**t happening right now so you better get out fast. Don't say we didn't warn you, because we did, okay."
He walked back into the room, the camera guy taking a second to focus on the trainees before pulling out. Larry popped out a second later, mouthing the words "serious stuff" while pointing two fingers towards his eyes, then at the trainees, then back to his eyes.
Serious stuff.
A few seconds later, a third person popped out, a lanky sort of guy with a baseball cap that said "GHOST CHASERS UNITE!" right on the cap in bold neon green. It also had a stylized picture of a white sheet ghost on it, which was probably the logo. He leaned over close to Wilson, trying to be a little too friendly. "Hi there! Can I join you?"
He didn't wait for a yes or no before scooting over. "Those guys never let me have any fun. Just an intern, they say, just a slave. Do as they say, they say. I'm a professional ghost hunter too, or I will be." A sideways whisper to the Death trainee. "I think they're going to hire me after my internship."
Another awkward pause, and then he held out a hand. "The name's Stan by the way, I think its awesome how you managed to sneak in and stuff, even get past our first cameras. The readings are just craaaa-zy I'm telling you. They say that like, tonight's the night of the harvest moon on a Friday the thirteenth some bad mojo here." A pause. "You are other ghost hunters, right? Like just friendly competition?" He gave a wink, and then whispered very loudly, "I won't tell anyone."

His eyes widened and Wilson raised his arms defensively. “Woah. She’s not my girlfriend, or uh, his—“ A quick look at Aleister. “—we’re just friends, and we’re used to danger.” Why was he still talking to these two? Shouldn’t he be focusing on the mission? One of them—Larry?—disappeared for a moment and then reappeared to point his fingers at himself then the trainees. The death trainee appeared to still be at ease, since he gave Larry a large smile and even a wave.
He was still smiling when a third person appeared. Wilson blinked, his gaze traveling up and down to take in Stan’s appearance. The trainee was unfazed when the intern leaned forward, but his smile wavered when Stan thought it was a swell idea to join them. “Join us? Um, well, as an intern shouldn’t you be helping him?” He half-nodded toward Larry and the cameraman. “After? Oh, that’s nice. Er.” Wilson glanced at Aleister and Kat, then at the trap door.
Stan wasn’t going to be leaving anytime soon, was he? Patiently, Wilson kept smiling and shook his hand. “I’m Wilson. Thanks. And uh, sure, friendly competition.” He took a few steps away from Stan and leaned toward Kat and Aleister. “Jumping on the trapdoor to open it sounds like a bad idea, so how about using our weapons?” A wary gaze toward Stan. “Maybe Kat should do it. Our weapons aren’t exactly…conventional.”
