"We do too." Riyo admitted, smirking at her gentle mock of the way he spoke. It wasn't meant to be insulting, just a playful poke.
A few steps out and her hand was in reaching distance of his, the idea of how close they'd be getting just now occurring to the ghoul. Maybe if she weren't so sleepy, Riyo would feel a little apprehensive about this. Yes, she'd forgiven him. No, she still didn't fully trust him. if apologies were hard to get from Riyo, trust was near impossible.
As the demoness closed the gap, her other hand found his shoulder. "I think something slow would be good right now." Jack knew she might collapse if they tried doing anything more strenuous than this.

Her mock apparently sounded playful enough, for it gained only a brief flick of his tongue as the tabby stuck it out at her. Really, he didn't notice it quite so much anymore. Or else he'd given up in trying to correct it. It seemed... Normal. He tried not to think about why that would be so.
At least for a little while, the worries wouldn't matter.
He almost looked nervous, as his free hand went to rest on the small of her back. As if she might decide better and shove away. Hopefully not. The closeness was nice, and Deacon doubted that Riyo realized how much it meant for her not to shun him. Not just for what he'd done, but for what was becoming of him now.
"For your foot, if nothing else." Deacon replied calmly, his movements slow and careful. He really had no worries about stepping on her feet, but he paid close attention anyway in setting his footpaws down very lightly, just in case.

Riyo couldn't hide the fact that she tensed up a little when his other hand was in place, but she wouldn't push him away. He looked... Happy.
Whether it was the music or the dance itself, she couldn't really say. Though she supposed it didn't matter. It was a relief to see someone enjoying her presence tonight.
"My foot will be fine." The feline repeated from earlier. "I'm not a sissy." And there were things that hurt far worse than a couple glass shards. She didn't complain about how slow they were going, however. It was... Relaxing. The music, the movements, the sounds of their feet lightly touching the hard wood floor.
Riyo often wondered what Deacon thought of her. To know almost everything she'd been hiding and how it had affected her. Half of the time she figured the boil thought she was weak. Something to be handled delicately. That very thought frustrated her. "Deacon, do you see me as weak?" The ghoul asked quietly, her brow knitting together as she looked off to the side.

"Just trying to be sure, that's all." He said calmly in confirmation. With that, a bit of the exaggerated care was dropped, if only to keep him from appearing as though he were afraid to break her somehow.
He hadn't expected the question out of the blue like that. Was it because of this? His care in trying not to cause her discomfort, right now, or was it a question that stretched much further than that? Deacon looked at her with a furrowed brow of his own, frowning softly.
"Never," he said without hesitation.
"We know... More than you would have ever told us, Riyo. Regardless of that, you never seemed weak to us. You certainly don't, now."
Tilting his head, the boil tried to look her in the eye. "And that is the honest to Jack truth."

Reluctantly, the ghoul's eyes shifted back over to him. She tried not to admit it to herself, but sometimes Riyo didn't want to fight for assurance. Only sometimes. Like right now when she felt emotionally drained.
"Alright then." A stray yawn escaped after her mouth opened, causing the ghoul to shake her head a little. "I won't ask anymore." Seemed like his final answer. No point in beating a dead horse. At the very least it seemed like he'd lightened up on the gentle touch bullshit.
Maybe now that the past was semi-behind them, Riyo could crack a joke about it. "So, you miss getting brushed every day, Fredrick?"

Glad that she chose to accept his response, he smiled softly when their eyes met again. While to him it seemed as if she brushed off the answer as nothing, Deacon couldn't help but wonder what had brought such a thing up now of all times.
Apparently, tonight was her night to bring up unexpected subjects. The mention of 'Fredrick' got a wider grin from him. Deacon cocked a brow questioningly, very curious. "Maybe... Do you ever miss him?"

Another yawn. Riyo was trying hard to seem alert and awake, but it was getting harder and harder. Well, that seemed to get a grin out of him.
Removing her hand from his shoulder for a moment, she gave the boil a good poke in the ribs. "I dunno." Since he gave her a wishy-washy answer, he got one right back. "He was the only cat that let me do just about anything to him." The ghoul thought for a moment, resisting the urge to smirk. "Shame those doll clothes didn't come in before he ran away..." Was she joking? Was she not? It was hard to tell.

She was getting tired. He really should leave, but he just didn't want to. Deacon flinched lightly at the poke to his ribs, giving a little yelp of protest, even if he didn't look put off. Things like that tickled, damn it.
"Oh, jack. We'd have shredded everything to pieces!"
Even though the record was still going, dancing didn't seem so important now.
He laughed. "Dress Felix up like a little ghoul. He'd dessserve it..."

"Hey now. Felix is a good cat." Riyo immediately stuck up for him after having cast him aside for other strange cats before. "He deserves a lot better than he gets." Especially after trying to save her a** so many times and promptly being ignored. The ghoul only appeared offended for a little while before letting out a sigh. She was starting to lean into the boil whether she realized it or not. "He might be kinda creepy sometimes, but he's always there when I need him.." And at least she knew he wasn't going to transform into a boil at the last minute.
... Hopefully.

He gave a little humph of a laugh, sighing softly. "I suppose he's a good cat." He had only been trying to protect the ghoul from him, after all. Deacon did notice that Riyo was leaning into him, if gently, and without much hesitation or thought on his part the boil's arm was circling her waist. It was good to feel the warmth of another, especially when the patches of Insanity felt as cold as the touch of Death itself, something the ghoul might notice as well if she happened to brush against the gray skin.
He might have even been purring softly, without realizing he was doing it.
"Think I can beat the other boil to the punch, and ask you to the next function? If you're willing to be seen doing things like this, other than behind closed doors. With us, that is."

Riyo's cheeks lit up when she felt his arm move. This was weird. She wasn't sure if she liked this or not.
The adrenaline from the boil moving quickly wore off, however. Like a slap to the face when you were trying to stay awake after not sleeping for a long time. "I guess that all depends on you, Deacon." The ghoul yawned. It was a noncommittal answer, but she wasn't going to just guarantee him a surefire position. There was no fun in that. If he wanted to be around her that badly, if he wanted her attention, he'd need to earn it. Riyo didn't do handouts, after all.
"Just... Don't try to change because you think it's what I want. You'll never know what I want, so don't worry about it." She didn't want him to treat her differently. Such a thing felt like pulling punches for someone you considered weaker. It was demeaning.
As they continued, Riyo grew less and less coherent. Her eyes fluttered, her grip on his shoulders grew weak, and eventually her head started resting on him for support. Somehow she was falling asleep standing up. That took talent.

The boil shrugged one shoulder lightly, unable to keep from smirking a little at the idea of finally being able to get an official date with her. "We'll be on our best behavior in the meantime." He meant it. Or, at least he intended to mean it. Who knew what this disease would have in store for him.
"We can't deny that we've changed, Riyo, but it hasn't all been a choice."
It was difficult to not notice her increasingly sleepy state. While he tried to keep a bit of a sway in their steps as if reluctant to cease the moment she'd granted him, Deacon slowly shuffled them toward her bed so that she could more or less drop into it if she liked once his hold on her loosened.
In a few moments, loosen it did, but he kept hold of her shoulders gently in case she really had dozed off against him. It wouldn't have been kind to just let her collapse, after all.

Best behavior? Riyo didn't care about that. He could go ******** s**t up and rob innocent bystanders as long as one of those bystanders wasn't her, but whatever helped him sleep at night.
The ghoul jerked a little as she felt the bed against the back of her legs, feeling a tad bit guilty for almost passing out when she had company. "Sorry.." She mumbled softly. Her hands delicately slid off his shoulders as Riyo allowed herself to plop down on the bed. "This music.. Puts me to sleep. In a good way." Best to clarify that. She didn't keep records that bored her, after all.
Her legs gently lifted off the floor and onto the bed, though her sleepy glance remained on him. "Deacon.. I um..." Her fingers twitched as she brought them together, nervously tapping the opposite hand. "I'm sorry... That all this is happening to you." It was an uncharacteristic thing to do. Apologizing for something that wasn't technically her fault. All those moments spent hating him, though. All those times she'd wished something awful would happen to the boil. Nobody deserved this. "There were a lot of moments in my day that I wished something terrible would befall you." All she could do now was admit it. Maybe that would make her feel better. "And I feel like.."
Like it was her fault.

"Don't worry about it..."
Once Riyo had dropped down onto the bed, the tabby stepped back and his gaze drifted to the door. Deacon's ears twitched lightly when she spoke his name, and he looked back to her with a small frown. He was silent while she spoke, perhaps knowing better than to say anything. Deacon didn't need to ask why she'd wish bad things on him. He knew well enough and, well...
"You had nothing to do with this. We brought it on ourselves." Surprisingly, he laughed shortly. "Never really believed in karma... So much for that."
He moved over to where he'd laid his things, replacing his shirt and jacket, pulling on his gloves and carefully tugging down his sleeves to be sure that the skin beneath was fully hidden. As much as he didn't care whether he kept the mask or not, he picked it up if only to keep from leaving it for her to dispose of.
"Thank you. For... Dancing with me."
Deacon wasn't sure if there really was anything left to say. So, he just walked to the door to let himself out.
"Goodnight, Riyo."

No. It hadn't made her feel better. If anything, she felt worse.
Silently Riyo hugged her legs as he started getting ready to leave, thinking about his words. "... Nobody deserves that, Deacon." The ghoul mumbled, her eyes closing as she heard the door open.
And it appeared there was nothing else she could say. No single words would fix this problem. In fact, it seemed like nothing would. All they had now was time, but how much was concealed in a locked opaque box.
"Goodnight.."
