After checking the areas surrounding the circular bunch of trees for signs of the foals passage Yseult decided that he had either vanished into thin air or run off. She snorted and scuffed the earth with a hoof before heading back to her kill. The kid was all talk. It was strange though, he had seemed so clever, why had he insulted her? He must have known that she was going to attack him. She shook her head. Clearly she was giving him too much credit. He'd done a good job with the tree tops but the chase through the forest had just been coincidence. He was just trying to get away and probably didn't notice any of the cleared paths.
As she mused over how the runt wasn't clever at all she stepped into the clearing with her deer to find him tearing chunks out of it. "You little b*****d!" She snarled her wings spreading wide to add to her size. This time she wasn't going to let him get into the trees, she was going to beat him then and there. He had circled back while she had been looking for him. Yseult lunged for him but stopped short.
He had circled back. She stared at the child slightly slack-jawed, blood dripped off of his teeth and muzzle, his eyes had widened a fraction and he was breathing quickly. The little devil had done it on purpose. He'd taken her into the forest to ditch her and she had been arrogant enough that it had worked. "Who taught you how to think like that?" She asked taking a step back and lowering her wings. That sort of planning was a skill she had never bothered to learn, she had never thought it would be useful in a real fight. To an extent it was completely useless in a fight but it might be useful for catching pray. She wanted to master it. "Tell me, I want to meet them."

Zelcion hastily dropped what he was doing when he heard the mare's angry voice. She'd come back quicker than he had anticipated that or he had been moving slower than Zelcion thought he was. Either way he watched in barely restrained horror as the mare approached him, wings spread wide. Mazoku were supposed to enjoy fear, Zelcion wondered if that included his own because he wasn't finding it very enjoyable. His breath quickened as he began to chart a course for escape when the mare sprang at him. It was too soon! Zelcion froze and by some miracle the mare did too. Had he been spared?
Uncertain of what had just happened Zelcion continued to stare at the mare too frightened to do anything else. Lord Beastmaster would be ashamed of his weakness. Then she asked him a strange question and he began to calm. Who had taught him? He slowly raised an eyebrow and drew himself into a more dignified position. She wanted to meet them?
Zelcion chuckled and found that he was starting to feel more in control of the entire situation. "No one taught me." He said arrogantly holding his head high. It was the truth while he knew others that had a gift for thinking ahead none of them had needed to teach him anything. It was an ability that grew with him naturally. "Perhaps now that you know that you'll treat me with the respect I deserve." He fixed her with a cool look to inform her that he was completely serious.

Yseult scowled hissing quietly as she looked the foal over again. "Cocky twerp." She said flicking her tail. No foal was that clever without some sort of training. She had known a few children in her time and not a single one of them came to intelligence naturally. The kid had to have been taught and she had an idea how to find out. He wasn't the only one who could pull off a trick.
"All right...if you're so clever, tutor me. Teach me something, right here and now." She smirked at him. The kid would have to reveal himself or come up with something good. He wouldn't be able to. Even his stupid tree scheme and back tracking had to have taken longer to think up. When he admitted that he was a liar Yseult would be able to find out who was really the brain behind the foal's tricks. That was the person she would learn from.

"Hmmm..." Zelcion regarded the silvery mare carefully with pursed lips. She wanted him to teach her and yet she insulted him and challenged his intelligence. That was such backwards thinking. After a long pause he chirped a simple, "No." at her. He stretched out his front legs and then with a quick flick of his tail he turned to leave speaking on his way off.
"See, you say that you wish to learn my skills but you still act like you're better than I am. Like you know more than I do. Why should I try to teach you anything when you obviously already know it?" Zelcion paused and looked over his shoulder at the short-maned mare. "I'll make this simple enough to understand. You believe that you are, in some unknown way, better than me. You don't respect me because of this illusion you live in. When you are ready to admit that this isn't the case I will teach you everything that I know. That is to say when you show me respect I will become your tutor."

So much for that idea. The runt was either on to her or he just had a stick up his butt about being respected. All things considered it might have been both. What kind of family did he come from that left him feeling that he was in such a position of dominance even when facing an elder more than twice his size? It had to be a warped one but if Yseult was going to look at all the clues she would have to conclude that it was also a powerful and intellectual bunch. For a child to walk around so unafraid with such a vast vocabulary for one his age he had to be surrounded with it all the time. So even though she wanted to tear a chunk out of his leg for his insolence right now Yseult restrained herself.
"Wait." She called to the foal more than a little begrudgingly. There wasn't much point since he seemed to be waiting for her response but she had to say something to let him know she was still interested. As much as it pained Yseult to do it she slowly lowered her in a pathetic excuse for a bow. If his family was so powerful it was in her best interests to get close to them. "This is what you want, right?" She asked raising her head. Even though she tried to fight it Yseult couldn't keep the furious look out of her eyes. Hopefully it wasn't enough to ruin everything but no matter how she tried she simply could not make herself into a docile mare not even as a ploy.

Zelcion slowly raised an eyebrow as the mare called to him unsure of what to expect. He thought that perhaps she was preparing to yell at him more or toss some new insults about his age and size at him. What he wasn't expecting was for the mare to bow. He had hoped for such a reaction, it was true, but never in a hundred years was he expecting it. She was a kalona with a pride that was almost as great as his own. This was a pleasant surprise.
With a thin smile Zelcion walked back towards the mare. "That will do for now. We'll teach you how to do such things properly though. Now, come with me. These are not things that can be taught in an afternoon. You will live with me and my family for the time being." Zelcion looked over the mare once again before trotting off towards home. "Follow me...and bring the deer. Lord Beastmaster is always happiest when fed."
