"What Did I Just See?"
It’s a quarter way through summer and I’ve done absolutely nothing.
Maryellen groaned at the thought. Her parents had her doing chores like cleaning dust off all the furniture. She’d even been sneezing a lot more then usual- not that Maryellen would ever complain. She had told her parents she would help around the house more during the summer.
To be honest though, she wouldn’t really know what to do if her parents hadn’t given her chores, but there had been something sitting in the back of her mind for awhile that she had thought of doing.
Apparently there were these ‘magic’ people running around. They’re typically mentioned following a warning. But.. when has a warning ever stopped anyone?
Maryellen knew what she had to do: investigate. How do you investigate people, you ask? By following them around and taking pictures of them.
Under the guise of an errand run, Maryellen escaped from her house with an old camera to begin her investigation.
Now where would someone go if they wanted to just hang out? Maryellen paused, thinking it through. The mall? Too many people. The main street? Too public. The park? Well, it definitely made more sense then her other ideas.
She raced off to Destiny City Central Park, expecting to find it swarming with ‘magic’. However as soon as she arrived it was obvious she was going to have to search a little harder then she had anticipated.
Hiking through the park, camera in hand, Maryellen chanced upon what she had been looking for. She heard soft singing coming from ahead of her. Who sings in the park? She peaked around nearby trees until she ascertained where the music was coming from.
A young girl was dressed in a short white dress adorned with musical notes and green frills. She had on long white boots that ended just below the dress. She was staring down at a massive green blob. Suddenly the blob charged at the girl, who started to sing again.
“Haunting melody!” She yelled at the creature.
Musical notes seemed to appear from thin air, enveloping the blob, causing it to slow down and eventually stop. The girl ran up to the blob and started to rain blows on it until it slowly melted away into the ground. With a triumphant fist pump the mysterious girl ran away.
“That was awesome!” Maryellen yelled, her excitement overwhelming. She had definitely found what she had been looking for, but it was nothing like she had expected.
Unfortunately, she had been so engrossed in the scene before her she had completely forgotten to take pictures! Fortunately, she had seen enough of the girl that she was sure she could sketch her from memory.
Maryellen ran home as fast as she could through the city, into her house, and up into her room. She shut the door behind her (“Mom I’m fine I just need to do something really... important!”) and headed straight for her drawing table.
She sketched out a picture with every detail she could remember of the girl, then taped it above her desk where she kept other important mementos.
“Tan! I need you to clean the counter in the kitchen for me!” Maryellen’s mother called up to her.
“In a minute!” Maryellen called down.
She stared at the sketch for a few moments until a strange thought dawned on her: maybe that person wasn’t alone... maybe there were others just like her!
She walked down into the kitchen to clean the counters. Her thoughts were too preoccupied with what she’d seen to register her mother’s talking.
