That was a good start, at least; she wasn't completely repulsed by him.
So many lewd comments came to mind. Promises that he'd be willing to touch her until any trace of Hel was gone. But he knew better, more than better, and he kept his mouth closed. There was a time and place, and this was neither. He flinched as Junko was brought up, wondering if maybe that damned Futakuchi-onna was responsible for Lizzy's change of heart, but...he supposed he had to thank her one day.
"You do matter to me, a lot. More than words; if you didn't, I wouldn't have told you what happened." He started, shamefully admitting what he did. "I found her completely torn up over Mot, so I offered a change in scenery, and then we started drinking, and...I was drinking, I made a huge mistake. I love you, Lizzy. Only you. What happened with Hel was just...disgusting." At the time he had enjoyed it greatly, and he did like the ghoul, but that was it; he was in lust with Hel, but in love with Lizzy. "I don't know what to do, Lizzy. But I want to make it better, I'll do anything to make everything okay again between us. I lost you once, because I was stupid...I really don't want to do it again..."

"I appreciate you owning up," She muttered, not quite sure how to feel about that; it was like thanking a robber for turning himself in at the Bogeyman station - he would probably be caught sooner or later, but he made the sentence on himself lighter by owning up, "I do... I just..."
She seemed to deflate as she wiped her eyes, "I don't know how to handle this... I am disappointed in you, and a small part of me don't want to see you, but letting you go would mean losing you, and I don't want to lose you, especially since-" She bit down on her lower lip, her voice dropping to a whisper, "-what if you decide to be with Hel after this." Hel was a free ghoul now, after all, and as much as her friends did not like Mac, she had always thought that he was a good catch... Not that she had anyone to compare him to, but that wasn't the point.
Hel had Mot to compare to, and as much as she loved her big brother? She also knew about his issues with intimacy; no doubt Mac showed her what a real- ARUGHHH.
"Promise me that I wouldn't have to forgive you for anything like this again?" She frowned, looking up from the floor to the boil, "Please? Just... Please." Please don't break my heart again.

Mac heard her whisper, but he kept quiet. Deep down he knew that if things didn't work out with Lizzy, there was a very good chance her assumption would be right.
"But I love you." He stated again after a length of time, hoping she wouldn't unknowingly give him the option to go to Hel. Again, he liked the ghoul, but it wouldn't ever be the same, that much was certain. If he had any ideas on how to help her through this, he'd give them to her, no matter what. As it stood he knew nothing, and turned on the edge of the bed to face her a little more, placing the back of his hand on the bed before sliding it forward, fingers open in invitation.
As she urged him to make her a promise, his heart leapt. Sure she was disappointed, and sure he was in the dog house so to speak, but this...this was another fantastic start! A promise that they weren't going to break, at least in his mind that's what it was. Before he gave his answer he made careful eye contact. "I Promise. Never again." Like many things he had said to her tonight, he meant it. Every word.

"You didn't start out loving me," She pointed out, but was quick to regret her words, wincing when she realized what she had just said, "I... I'm sorry, that was... Unnecessary..." She just felt so confused and frustrated right now, and maybe she didn't mean everything she said.
She looked at his hand, and then up at his face, before looking at his hand again; it was tempting to take it, especially since taking it would mean that everything was alright. Mac was a safe place, and whenever she was troubled, being held in his arms would always make her feel better. He didn't even need to say anything.
"I love you too," She thought she should reinforce that fact, as she hesitantly took his hand, linking their fingers together; the urge to push him away, to pull her own hand away, was there, but his hand was warm... And it was comforting. Slowly, she inched towards him, until her shoulder was against his arm, "Are we still going to prom... Together?"

Mac flinched visibly at her words. Several more scathing replies surged through him, but he bit them all back, merely clenching his jaw and pressing his lips into a thin line. He wasn't impressed by her words, but he couldn't exactly blame her, either. "It's alright, I deserved that." He said slowly, carefully, not wanting to say any more on it.
Mac's fingers closed carefully around hers, tight enough to hold it securely, but not so crushing as to trap her there, should she change her mind. It seemed like things were back on the mend, and once he had her hand he gave a sigh of relief, satisfied at least for the moment that this wasn't the end for them.
He chanced a smile, holding himself back from just gathering her up in his arms; he learned in the past to never force her to do something she might be hesitant about, and if she was still disgusted in him, that would be a terrible idea.
"I was just gonna ask that." He cleared his throat, the ghost of a grin on his lips. What he wanted to say might've been a little silly, but the last time he screwed up their relationship, re-asking seemed to be a good way to get her back on decent enough terms. Or to at least make her happy again, which was his current goal. Lizzy always did have a way of making him swallow his pride without the anger that usually came with it. "Lizzy, will you still go to Prom with me?"

She returned the smile, even if the smile didn't reach her eyes, "I would love to. Still." This was followed by a pause, as she gave his hand a squeeze, looking worried, "Act as you normally would during prom... I don't want anyone finding out. I know that most of my friends dislike you-" And one of the few who actually got along with him betrayed her and slept with him, go figure, "-And I usually don't mind it as long as you're good to me, but I don't want... Them being judgmental or upset or disappointed or anything at you or Hel. You're both good people..." Argh, this was difficult to say... But despite how much it hurt, she couldn't bring herself to hate either of them.
Who knows? Maybe it was really her fault for being busy all the time, and neglecting Mac or something.
"We're going to be alright... Right?" She asked, her frown deepening as looked away from him; she knew that relationships could be rocky, and as much as she wished that it could always be moonbeams and puppies, she also knew that it wasn't always happy or straightforward... However, it had only been a year, but so many things had happened within the 12 Octobers that they had been together; first the break-up, then now this... It made her worried, even if she hadn't given it this much thought till now.

"Alright." He had no qualms against pretending this didn't happen. "I can do that." But, in the back of his mind, he made a mental note to be good to her friends too. Staring with one Futakuchi-Onna, even if the thought made him shiver uncomfortably. His thumb brushed against her knuckles, his gaze never leaving hers.
"Right." Mac confirmed honestly, a more fond smile on his lips. Once more he shifted on the bed, leaning in a little closer to her. "I think we've gone through the worst that can happen now. No more nasty surprises...I'm sorry I've made your life a mess." He couldn't think of anything worse than cheating and breaking up; and he'd been the root cause of both, go figure. There wasn't anything else he could do to hurt her, as far as he knew. Well, with the exception of dying, he supposed.
Maybe he shouldn't to go Shun now.
"Hey, I...had a real thorough shower this morning." He felt it was very important to express this, because he did; as much as he enjoyed it at the time, and as much as he liked Hel, he felt rather dirty after for having cheated on the love of his life. It had been almost self destructive, how he had cleaned himself. "Can I have a kiss?"

"Being Lizzy is suffering," She actually managed a real smile this time, enjoying the way they were holding hands. While she hesitated at first, Lizzy experimentally poked him on the cheek, trying to get used to touching him without feeling the need to go wash up, even if she had to start with something small, and work her way up, "Especially a Lizzy with a Mac. Suffering, and a lot of happy things."
When he mentioned a shower, she seemed to deflate, having momentarily managed to push the whole 'my boilfriend cheated on me' thing aside, only to have it brought up again... Then again, it was probably going to linger around in her thoughts for a while.
"A kiss?" She echoed, tilting her head before slowly nodding, pulling her legs up to the bed in order to kneel beside him. Hands cupping his cheeks, she turned his head to face her before putting her arms around his shoulders, and leaning in. Hovering in front of his lips, her mind wandered over to what he might had used his lips and mouth for and- Ughhhhh.
Eughhhhhhhhhhh.
Immediately, she tensed up, quickly pecking him on his cheek before taking her arms back to hug her legs to her chest, "Sorry..."

"Aha...well, at least there's some happy things in there too." Mac managed a chuckle again, shaking his head slowly. Her agreeing to a kiss made him feel much better, and a little bit of tension eased from his body as she leaned in, brushing her hands against his face and shoulders. This was a good sign, right? Yes it was, a very good sign.
"Nah, don't apologize." He assured her; sure he was disappointed, but in the end he decided he should at least be happy that she kissed him in some way. It was a start, and it was more than he could have asked for, under the circumstances. "Thank you." It was what he wanted after all; he never did specify where.
"So...Prom. I'll pick you up before? Meet you right at your door." Since she didn't want to touch him, they could at least finalize plans.

"That sounds good," She nodded, scooting close to him again, taking his arm, "... Can I have a hug before you leave?" She didn't want to initiate it, for some odd reason. She wanted him to do it.
"Oh... Um, I was going to tell you this over prom, but since you're here... Mot and I are going to my home for the weekend," She had planned this for a few days now, but with everything that had happened, it felt odd to say this to Mac, "We're going to ransack my house's basement to find a few of my father's things... I'm trying to find out how he died, because mother wouldn't tell me anything, and Mot needed some time away from the school."
A pause.
"When I come back Spooksday evening though... Sleepover at your place?" She asked, looking up at him as she continued to cling onto his arm, "Been a while... Since our last."

"Do you have to ask?" Mac teased lightly, feeling odd about the way she just asked for a hug. Usually, she just latched right on there. He supposed he understood, at least slightly. Since he wasn't leaving yet, he didn't make any moves to hug her. Not yet.
Lizzy laid out her plans, and Mac's eyes narrowed. She and Mot were going to her place? It was for a good cause; answers about her Father were important enough he wagered, but...why Mot? Why now? That particular answer became very clear, and he didn't like it one bit. Mot needed some time away from the school. Wasn't that was led to his and Hel's, uh, mistake in the first place? Him bringing her away from School to his house, because she needed to get away?
Jealousy reared it's ugly head; why would Mot get invited along for something so important, when he was there for her? More over, could he really trust Mo---oh, well, okay. He supposed he didn't have any reason to be against the idea. Trying to think of Mot touching any ghoul ended up blank. He just couldn't picture it. Still, he didn't like the idea.
"That's...fine." Mac stressed instead, trying to keep all of his disapproval and jealousy out of his voice. Trying, likely not succeeding, but trying. The subject of a sleepover smoothed out his otherwise raging thoughts, but only slightly. "I look forward to it~" This time he sounded as honest as he felt about it, leaning his head down to nuzzle briefly into her hair; any contact he gave her was slight and hesitant, not a stranger to treating her this way.
Slowly, his arm left her grasp as he turned, wrapping carefully around her and drawing her in against his chest. As tentatively as ever he turned his head, resting his cheek on her head. It was nice to have him in his arms, even if it did make him feel worse for what he'd done. "So I'll see you on Prom?" He wanted to see her earlier, but...he didn't think he should. For her sake.

"W-well, I wasn't sure if you would still hug me..." She replied softly, looking away; she hadn't reacted very well to his 'confession', after all. There was always the chance that he might be too afraid to touch her without some sort of invitation or guarantee that she wasn't going to freak out on him again.
She tensed up at first, but quickly - and easily - relaxed in his arms, pausing for a moment before closing her eyes and wrapping her own arms around him. She pushed the unhappy thoughts to the back of her mind, choosing to enjoy the moment, "Yeah... See you on Prom day." She muttered into his chest, contented to stay there for the time being.
"I'll tell you everything when we come back to school," She looked up and nodded, sensing Mac's general disapproval. Secretly, it made her a little happy to know that he was worried - and possibly jealous - about Mot and her being alone, although she wasn't about to do anything that would cause her to betray Mac, body or otherwise, "And you be good too. Stay out of trouble... Pinky promise?" She held up a pinky, looking very serious; she really did expect Mac to go through with this.
