"It isn't honour or duty that has me asking for your time. I enjoy your company." Mot insisted. He paused though. He'd love to have her as a date. He really did. But they were a broken couple with a lot of issues. He had to keep in mind that he shouldn't rope her along just in case.
He took in a painful breath again. "It might be best if we went to prom separately. For both our sakes." Every word he spoke that moment felt like a knife in his heart. He knew this was right, but it felt so wrong.

Letting go hurt. Immediately the thought that another might sweep in and take him was even worse.
The reaper couldn’t help but smile a bit, but it was bittersweet. “I enjoy your company too, Mot…when we are not…you know…heh.” She paused. “…You are very kind…thank you…but once again…I think you are right. I do not want to ruin it for you. It should be a fun time…ya? This way…this way you do not have to worry.” Would she even go now?
The odds were she might not.

Mot managed a small chuckle. It was true, and maybe a little bit funny. They got along great when their personalities weren't clashing. But this was it. It was certain now. He'd be at prom, but not as Hel's date. The idea of her going with another boil crossed his mind, and his heart ached heavily. He wanted her to be happy though, and all he did was make her sad. It would be selfish to keep her, just so he could have her and no one else, knowing his disapproval would make her sad.
"Right.." He was having a hard time trying to keep himself composed. The right thing was always the hardest thing to do. He took his hat from the door knob, holding it like a precious and fragile glass flower. "Thank you, again. For getting this for me." Even if it was the catalyst for their last big fight as a couple.
His lungs were starting to malfunction, his heart barely beating. He needed to be alone.
"I'd better let you go. I'll see you soon." He managed a smile, hesitated as he almost leaned forward for a hug. No, not right now. Maybe some other time, when the hurt wasn't so raw. He chuckled softly, and turned to enter his room.

She could sense things were coming to a close, and not just their relationship. It was both a blessing and a curse. “…Y…ya…you are welcome…always…”
“Y…ya…” He started to lean in and Hel immediately raised her arms to return the hug, but he pulled back, and Hel looked like a kicked foxfire as her arms hung there awkwardly. She let them drop. “…Go…good bye…” Hel bit her lip, and couldn’t hang in there anymore and she spun on her heel and took off down the hall.

Her arms were held out, and he felt even worse. It would have been too hard. Especially right now. She murmured her good bye and took off, likely to find a place to be alone. Surely she was just as hurt as he was.
He watched her flee out of site, and then stepped into his room, the door shut softly behind him. His room seemed emptier, even with FooFoo quietly chewing on a small stuffed toy on his bed. Empty, cold, quiet. As he slowly moved toward his desk, his eyes began to burn. His throat began to hurt, his chest tightened.
As soon as he sat down, the hat in his hand dropped to the floor, and nothing could stop the flood of tears that began to stream down his cheeks.
He'd done it. It was for the best. But it hurt so badly.
He dropped his head into his hands, his elbows leaning heavily on the table.
