Usually, Armagnac spent her time telling Sherry that they needed to train, that Sherry could do with being stronger and perhaps smarter, and that Sherry really should just hit things more often. Once in a while, she had a word of encouragement for the trainee. Sometimes, she was even helpful, giving Sherry tips in order to help her learn. It was almost like she cared. (Sherry suspected she did.) The hiss came as Marcus moved to strike. The blade of his weapon came and seemed to Sherry to be suddenly much larger than it was. Focus could do that. As the weapons connected, Sherry saw that Marcus was using one hand to wield his blade, leaving his other free to-- And there it was. Coming in from the side. Her hands occupied with using Armagnac to block the sword, Sherry realized there was little she could do to stop the punch. So, she braced herself for it as best she could at the last second. Sherry would be forever grateful that Marcus was on her side. She was glad to see that the shock of it didn't entirely cause her to lose her grip on Armagnac. But it was jarring. "Let's do that again," Sherry said as she took a step back, and reaffirmed her grip. This was something she needed, clearly. HP: 27 Defending for: 4

She took the blow and was back for yet another soon after. "Alright." Switching hands he nodded. "Let's see if you can block both shall we?" Going for a frontal stab and another punch to he side it was hard to mask his smile as she blocked the blows. "Sure you're not a moon?" HP: 29 Damage:3

He obliged her request, and Sherry was glad to find that she handled herself rather well. It took watching and predicting, as well as speed and strength. She knew she still needed quite a bit of practice, but the small success was a confidence boost. Armagnac gave her own version of praise. Sherry smiled at the moon trainee beating on her. “Positive. I don’t know if I could keep this up long term.” This was true. Defending clearly took a bit of stamina, and the life trainee didn’t know if she was cut out for it. “Though perhaps we could find out?” she asked, keeping her defensive stance. “Throw another one at me.” HP: 27 Defending for: 1 iStoleYurVamps Hit her again....then after this move battle? Her choice, or if she messed up enough, sent to another. That was a less appealing prospect but it was one more that you had to just look out for. Less useful you were... the less the leads would want you. "Alright, let's see what we can do here." Dis chuckled. Well, she's not dead yet, which is an improvement. Thank god for that. Going after her side one more, he didn't punch or kick, keeping to using his sword alone. HP: 29 Damage: 8

And that was about it. The blow from the sword came, and for half a moment Sherry though she might have it. Too bad she had been trying to focus on what else he might throw at her. "Hsssh," she sucked in air through clenched teeth and took a step back. The life trainee knew it would be impossible to always block everything, but she also knew that if Marcus wasn't helping her, she could be dead already. "Nice hit," she gave a small laugh. "Would you mind doing it again?" Block the hit, or take it. The only way to learn was to do it, right? HP: 20 Defending for: 1 iStoleYurVamps Scratch what I said before. Sherry giving it another go is much more IC. xD

While Sherry was near hissing, Marcus was smiling as Dis chuckled. The fight was going well and it was a nice change of pace from always being on the defensive himself. "If you want. You can take a break if you're getting tired you know." Prolonged impact taken when you were not trained for it hurt as Marcus well remembered. Sore muscles were never fun. "But, since you asked-" He stabbbed at her, trying to use the curve of his own blade against her. HP: 29 Damage: 5

There was a sound as her defenses were tested again. A sound, a pressure, and the pain that came with her defenses being broken. Sherry found herself sucking in more air between her teeth. "I know, and I might just take you up on that break," she breathed, disengaging and stepping back. "For moment anyway. I don't know if I can handle much more of that. But this is good, I'm learning a lot." She gave one of her arms a shake. Yep. She'd be feeling that for a few days. She smiled. The life trainee was feeling good about today, so far it had been extremely useful, even if it was tiring and bruising. Pain or not, she was super glad to have agreed to defense lessons. "Any other bits of defensive wisdom?" HP: 16

She pulled and he relented, the request for a break prompting him to desummon Dis, (who remarked on how well he had done, not killing anyone just yet). "Easy enough. You've blocked a fair amount, and you'd probably cover a good portion out in the field." Stretching out, he worked to try and relax his arms. "Any thing else? Well, there are runic dagger which aside from being useful, can help buffer damage. The only problem is learning how to use them both in and out of combat. More so in combat and getting them to stick where you want." Weeks of training throwing, them into dummies... and missing. Lots of missing. "If you have runic daggers cleared it helps to train with them, and if you don't have them cleared I'd suggest it."

The grin on her face grew with his praise. It was good to know she wasn't a total failure at defending. She shifted Armagnac to her right hand, and flexed the fingers of her left. She never realized just how tightly she gripped until it came time to let go. "Runic daggers," she repeated, absorbing every word the moon trainee said. "They do seem useful. I'll have to get that cleared, for certain," her nod was thoughtful. This lesson had given her much to think about.

She might have learned something or nothing, Marcus just felt good about helping. "Get then cleared and I can help you with learning to throw them. Took me a while and my mentor kind of.. ditched out on me once I had the basics. Still can learn on you own but takes a while." Popping his neck he looked over to the main building. "Want to call it good for now?"

"I'll let you know when I'm squared away, then. I can only imagine how bad learning on your own could be." And she could. She imagined lots of wondering what to do. Desummoning Armagnac, Sherry gave her arms a small stretch. "Stopping now might be a good idea. I'm gonna feel this in morning, and probably after that. Nothing I can't handle," she assured him, "but still." She stretched again and winced a bit. "Thank you, seriously. It's been educational, and I might have to hit you up for another round sometime."

Starting the walk back to the main building he gave her a wave. "Ask for a hot pack for your muscles over at the labs. Just make sure its not experimental." One thing no one should suffer. "See you around Sherry!"
