Kawaii Chiisa Neko I have a question about the contest. Does it have to be about gaining freedom? Or can it be about celebrating freedom? Either or.

I have a question too, with regards to the contest. does it have to be a one-shot, or a multi-chaptered one?
and if it's multi-chaptered, it has to be finished by the end of the submitting period, ne?

And yes, if it is multi-chaptered, it has to be finished by the end of the submitting period. Thank you for checking first! Good luck! biggrin

I think we should make an archive section to put all older stuff that we may or may not want to keep later down the line for a spring cleaning if things get too cluttered. My suggestion of the day.

I sort of have idea that goes with the contest, but not. sweatdrop
I was wondering if we could roleplay an award's ceremony for the fan fiction contest. Meaning we'd use avatar edits dressed up and roleplay like an actual award ceremony.
For example: Everyone who enters can get an avatar edit of the themselves and that edit is dressed up, and we roleplay. During the "award's ceremony" roleplay, the staff and judges announce the winners based on the two catagories and may do something small like a superlative award?
Just an idea. I have a boatload of avatar edits that I'm dying to use, so that would be something artsy and fun.

I know, it's only six days into the new month, but since this is the first guild contest, I think we should keep it simple for now. But I like the idea! Maybe next month...? biggrin

Also, are you volunteering to do the avatar edits?

There are some avatar edit stores in the Mini Shops Forum. If you guys want to, hop over to tektek and/or use a naked avatar base, save it to your own server, and then shop around for avatar edits.

Question, is it possible to post a "fanfiction review exchange thread"?
The original one in the fanfiction site seems to be more or less scattered a bit at the moment.

I can bring the idea up with the other staff members, but I don't know if I'd personally use it. I write for a small fandom, and honestly, I personally feel that I couldn't give a fan fiction from a different fandom a decent review and, no offense, I think a swapping of reviews by specific people tends to be clique-ish. Now, if the mods think it's okay, we can see about it. I'm just saying that I won't use it. Plus, when we have fan fiction contests, are we going to let writers swap stories with other contestants? Questions like those? I love reviews, don't get me wrong, but I personally think that critiques only coming from a specific group is a bit clique-ish.

Fair enough. I too write quite a few stories from both big and small fandoms. But in the case of smaller ones, I just wanted to know what people thought of it in a away to know what's good/bad about it, what interesting, and what can be improved upon. of course whatever right.

Not neccessarily from just one group, but having a group that will critique your work is always a plus, imo. I'm rather limited in what fandoms I can comfortably write in, but I can give critiques on grammar, structure, and other things. Characterization I can comment on too. Perhaps not for contests, but just for other times? I think it's a pretty good idea.

Here is the main concern other crew members and I had while talking about a critique group thread. I understand that everyone means well, but if we started critique group thread or a critique sub-forum, there would be no 100% effective way for the crew and guild staff to prevent the area/thread from turning into a fan fiction clique. In fact, if you strip away the rules that govern fanfiction.net's forums, some groups - such as Critics United and the 10 to 11 anti-CU Forums - the bare bones tell you that these groups are simply highly-organized cliques. And those who've had bushes with these groups know that they can come off as very rabid, mean, a*****e-ish, elitist, and more. Again, I know you guys want to start one, but the evidence doesn't lie. Critics United and the anti-CU Forums are just highly-organized/elaborate cliques. Do we really want to start another clique on ff.net? Do we even want another elitist clique on Gaia? My question is: how do we stop people from turning the thread/sub-forum regulars into a clique? Yes, I know that most fan fiction writers are in High School or Middle School, and I also know that cliques are part of a school's social scene. However, this isn't High School or Middle School; you guys are writing fan fiction because you like it. So, does anyone have any ideas on how to prevent clique-ish behavior? Do we assign specific moderators to the critique area that don't mind being unpopular so that they can do their duty to prevent attempts to turn the thread/sub-forum into a clique? Will the moderator(s) have a thick-enough skin to put their personal feelings aside and do their job? (I've been a moderator before on several other message boards, and you should hear what they call me behind my back. However it's a small price to pay for putting my personal feelings aside and doing my job.) Should those same moderator(s) get in regular contact with other crew members and report offenders? Should the staff decide to ban that person based on a vote in the crew section of the guild? Because there are so few people who are active in this guild, there's always a big concern that the thread/area will de-evolve into a clique. I'm just saying that unless anyone else wants to submit an idea other than a use of strict moderation, a plan to investigate trouble-makers, and a uniform decision by staff on how to deal with an offender, we can't promise that the area won't turn into a clique. Until someone can find sure-fire ways to prevent it, the crew and I have agreed that we should look at all the issues before we decide.
