KO turned around with a sigh and a wryly raised eyebrow. “Rough is an understatement, I haven’t been allowed anywhere near the labs yet and I’m fairly certain at least half of my roommates don’t know how to operate a shower. It’s like living with seven Neanderthals; even if I end up with a less than endearing roommate as a grunt at least there’s just the one of them to contend with.” Not to mention the fact that all of his roommates were as keen to get out of red uniforms as he was, and this made all of them very aggressively masculine. He was very aware that he was at least two inches smaller and probably fifty pounds lighter than the next smallest of them, and was currently doing his best not to be himself around them; he didn’t need to make himself a target.

“I can work with anything,” KO went on after only a brief pause, perching lightly on the arm of the sofa. “What were you thinking about? Jacket? Pants?”

Rory nodded as he reflected back to his own training days. "You just have to ignore them and go about your business sometimes. If any of them come after you, I'll have your back." If he had someone to help him back then, he wouldn't have ended up in as many scrapes as he had. At least he could look out for this guy.

Rory scooted over on the sofa and turned to look at KO. "Maybe both? I used to have both of them but I didn't bring them with me. It'd be nice to have if I can find a club to take this girl to."

Easy as that, he had a potential ally. KO shifted slightly and hummed, brushing his fingers casually through his hair. "Well I'm happy to make both for you, but I wouldn't advise leather and leather in the same outfit any more than I would jeans with a denim jacket. It just gets a bit much, you know? It might be better if the leathers were different finishes and colours though unless you were going for the unified look and she's really into leather." There was no accounting for what some people were into. Some people like hot pink leopard spotted leggings.

Finishes? What was he talking about? The grunt wondered if he could just give the guy the money and let him buy whatever material he needed. Rory picked his controller up and decided to address his question to the trainee.

"So do you want me to just give you the cash or do you need me to come with you to buy the materials?" He wasn't too fond of turning the amount it would probably cost him over to someone he barely knew, but if this guy was hard up to make allies instead of enemies, he wouldn't screw him over.

"No need for you to come," KO said with a dismissive wave of his hand, actually a bit glad that Rory didn't seem to want to accompany him; having people who knew nothing about cloth or tailoring traipsing after him when he was trying to make decisions was a real drag. "I'll work out how much I need of what materials, head to the city when I have a day off, and pick it up. You can pay me back afterwards, easier than trying to guess how much it'll be." He still had some money left, and given he didn't have to pay for his food and accommodation he could comfortably spend it and then claim back from his new friend.

The blond breathed a sigh of relief, "Thanks. Shopping's never really been my thing." It wasn't until he had joined Team Rocket that he had needed to shop for his own clothes; his mentor had always taken care of it for him claiming that his taste was typical of a teenage boy with a roll of her eyes. He thought she would have loved this guy.

And he was willing to let him pay him back instead of wanting the money up front? Maybe he really was just looking for friends. He grinned up at the man and gestured to the other controller, "Want to play?"

KO shrugged. "Well, each to their own, it would be boring if we were all the same." If everyone was like him his life wouldn't be half as easy as it was.

Ah, and now he was being offered in on games? He wasn't very familiar with video games but if it was something Rory liked it would serve him well to make the effort. KO shrugged again and slid off the arm of the couch, sauntering over to the blond to accept the controller. "I warn you I'm not very experienced with this sort of thing, I'll probably be awful," he said with a raise of one eyebrow. "What's the game about anyway?"

Rory shuddered slightly at the thought. The world did not need multiple copies of the same person. "Very much so," he commented.

The grunt watched the awkward way the red head held the controller and grinned slightly. "You race through the streets trying to beat the other cars while watching out for the cops."

"Oh?" KO raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Well, I've been doing that for years in real life; shall we see how well my skills translate onto the television screen?" Somehow he doubted it, but it wasn't something he cared about so losing was no big deal.... "So where's the accelerator on this thing?"
PostPosted: Mon Jul 02, 2012 6:58 pm

Rory chuckled again and leaned over slightly so the other man could see how to properly hold the controller. "You're gonna want your fingers on the trigger buttons, the right one is your accelerator, the left is the brake. The A button, the one on your thumb, can be used if you have nitrous oxide or a boost available."

He chose the multiplayer option as the other Rocket's words ran through his mind. "If you don't mind me asking, what did you do before you came here?"

So nothing like driving a car at all. He was going to be terrible. Giving a mental shrug KO ran the instructions over in his head again and resolved to be good humoured.

"I don't mind you asking; I don't even mind telling you!” he replied to Rory's question, glancing away from the screen to give the blond an arch smile. “Last several years I've been hopping between small time gangs, working on a substance I call Synth. While it remains in a human's bloodstream it makes them stronger, faster, tougher, more agile and sharpens reflexes. I got a bit tired of the dumb thug attitudes of most of the groups I ended up with though, tired of them getting caught and disbanded by the police too. After I... severed ties shall we say with my last band of associates I decided it was time to look for something a bit more long term, and a place with better facilities! I am very much looking forward to having a proper lab to work in; the equipment I was forced to use over the years was horribly obsolete for the most part. It's a wonder I made any progress at all," the red-eyed man concluded with a sigh and a shake of his head.

He had left out the bit before he started his stint in the small time groups, the bit about Galactic. He didn’t care all that much if people knew his past association with them – it was a long time ago now and he had left them of his own accord and could be suitably scathing about them – but there was no call to go showing all of his cards if Rory didn’t ask for them.

At one time the word 'gangs' and someone telling him they had been involved with them would have sent Rory running. Since he had joined Team Rocket, he had tried not to think like that anymore. Instead of focusing on the people KO used to work for, Rory chose to focus on the substance the red head told him he was working on.

"What were you trying to do with it? Create a race of superheroes?" He asked with a grin. Rory sighed at the mention of working in a proper lab. "Good luck with that. Even us grunts don't get access to the equipment they use."

KO chuckled and shook his head. "Oh, I think I left the 'hero' option behind a long time ago. No, no grand ambitions like that, just looking to give an edge in combat. Succeeded, too." The fact that grunts didn't generally get to touch the labs was disappointing, but he could be a patient man when he had to be.

"So, quid pro quo Rory." KO cocked his head at the blond. "What's your background?"
PostPosted: Thu Jul 05, 2012 9:02 am

Rory's eyes widened slightly. His substance actually worked? "Wow, that's amazing." He was impressed and slightly curious as to why KO didn't try to market it.

Since KO shared with him when he didn't have to made Rory feel slightly obligated to share as much about his own past as he was comfortable sharing.

"I was raised to be a pokemon breeder but one year I was given this odd colored Ponyta and told I should try training her for contests. I did that for a few years and seen way too much of the bad side of the circuits for my liking." he answered as he chose a car and a track to start the game. "Things happened and we ended not able to compete again. It got to the point where no one wanted to hire a former coordinator with a handicapped pokemon and my only other option was coming here."

There was no need to mention the bullying and beatings that he had suffered during his time. Nor the ridicule that came after his last contest. No one needed to know about that; it was over and never needed to be brought up again.

He knew a half truth when he heard one.

He also knew a blatant lie when he heard one.

The only option other than contests was Team Rocket?

Please!

There were lots of other jobs in the world that a young man, even one with no skills but pokemon training, breeding, or coordination could take. Maybe what Rory meant was that there was no job he could take that his pride could suffer after the glamour of the circuit, and yet he spoke ill of the culture of coordination?

Humm, there was certainly more than met the eye here.

That or Rory was thick as s**t; that was also a possibility.

KO flicked through the car options and, knowing nothing about the game, he just picked the best looking.

"Tough break," he said, "but at least you've got a place here now." What are you not saying? What are you hiding? Who are you really, leather loving Rory? Can I find out? Can I use it? "Synth isn't without its drawbacks," he went on as casually as ever as he waited for the game to start, "it makes people more aggressive, hot headed. Not something to give to the commanders but it certainly gives troops a boost, so long as they're trained well enough to pay attention to orders. Once I do get access to the labs I'll be working on changing the formula for use on pokemon, if my superiors think the project is worth spending the necessary resources on of course. Team Rocket might give us a place to belong, but it does restrict one's freedom somewhat."
