Well Commander, to begin with I spent far too long trying to find my old partner, eventually gave up, and spent the next six months or so drunk and when I woke up I was in a different region.
KO carefully read the number off his tape and scribbled it down in his note book. "Oh, you know, this and that," he said to the floor in slightly flat tones. "I was hardly going to go back to behaving myself like a good boy though," he went on, his tones going honeyed again as he looked back up at Star, his eyes slightly lidded.
"I found small time gangs," the tape was tugged deftly out of Star's grasp and KO leant close to him to take his waist measurement. "Nothing compared to the kind of operation you were so vital to," he said silkily, still leaning close, "but at least I had freedom to work on my own projects. That was one trouble with Galactic's labs, they didn't really recognise potential like your department did.” If there was a chance to say something good about Star or something he had been in charge of, take it. Always take it. “Small time groups have a bad habit of dissolving, or being dissolved though so I moved around a lot. Over time I developed Synth, but where I perfected it once again there was just no recognition of talent and so I left them and came here to Kodo... after I had dealt with the cretin that belittled me, of course."
Smirk showing just a shade of teeth, KO lent back from Star again and wrote down his waist measurement. "I have always been glad, Star, that you are prepared to acknowledge other talented people when you meet them."

Star folded his arms behind his back where they'd be out of the way while KO worked. He watched the other man while he spoke, blinking occasionally.
When KO finished Star was looking slightly less annoyed. The ongoing compliments seemed to be helping his mood. They also managed to cure what remained of his typical hunch, which was probably helpful for measurements.
"And this Synth. You're certain it works?"

"Naturally Commander," KO replied easily, taking a couple of quick measurements around the tall man's slim legs. "I wouldn't have talked it up to you if I wasn't sure," he went on, "I've run extensive tests, and I'll be happy to hand my research over to the labs... just as soon as they let me down into the labs. I'll need to be there to explain the finer points of it and clear up any ambiguity, naturally." He'd actually written a pretty good professional paper that shouldn't need any explaining, but he'd take any excuse to get down there and have a look around even if he had to mop some floors. Mopping lab floors had to be more interesting than mopping bathroom or corridor floors, though that wasn't saying much.
Drawing his tape measure between his hands again KO gave Star another one of his Smiles. "Inside leg now! Hold still."

Star tensed and averted his eyes. He'd had measurements taken before and knew the inside seam was legitimate. Didn't make KO's smug grin any easier to tolerate. "And what are the effects again? You were somewhat vague when we discussed it earlier." He seemed determined to keep the conversation moving rather than allow KO to keep the focus on where his hands were.

Star was hilarious when he was uncomfortable.
KO took the inside leg in a swift professional manner; somehow he didn't think he would get away with messing about with this one. "It increases physical strength, endurance, speed, and general athletic ability," he reported as he wrote down the measurement.
Getting to his feet he raised his tape measure to Star's shoulder and went on; "Arm straight please Commander. It's a temporary effect, lasts for a few hours, exact duration depends on the dosage. It also tends to make people more aggressive and hot-headed, so not really something you want to give to your commanders but good for the troops if they're disciplined. I was just starting work on altering the formula for use on pokemon when my relationship with my associates went sour and I decided Orre wasn't the place to be anymore."

Star lowered and straightened his arm for KO to measure, "..I see. And you've tested it?" He turned his head to look down at the other ex-Galactic. A smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth, "Do let me know if you need me to sit."
Star wasn't usually in the habit of mocking others for being short but KO seemed to be enjoying his discomfort.

Oh, so now Star thought he was funny? KO smiled a bright bright smile that showed quite a lot of white white teeth. "Thank you Commander,” he said lightly, “but as you see we have no chairs in here and you'd have to hunch over to sit on one of the bunks, which would mess up my measurements. It would be easier for me to do this if you were a bit lower down though, so if you'd like to be helpful you could kneel."

Star's smirk vanished. He eyed the floor. ".......I'd rather not. Perhaps we could find you a stepping stool."

KO chalked up a point to team him and made an airy gesture with one hand. "No worries, Herr Commandant, I can manage. Just about." How did Star get on with his superiors, and with his peers come to that? He'd have to watch and see sometime; he imagined it to be pretty hilarious but actually seeing the gangly stick insect having to call lots of men and women much younger than himself 'sir' and 'm'am' would be brilliant.
"Just a couple more to take now," he said, moving around behind Star. "Doing neck to waist back here, I promise not to get carried away and go any lower." The once-commander did have quite a nice arse, but there had always been that something about the man that stopped him from being attractive, from his point of view anyway. What had been the name of that guy with an enormous crush on the leggy man? Stan, or Steve or something he thought.

Star cast a glance at KO over his shoulder, then looked forward again. He didn't dignify the redhead's comment with a response. "So.. you're anticipating pokemon applications for this substance you've made. Have you ever done something like that before?"

Mmh? Oh, yes, they'd been talking about Synth before he'd started trying (and succeeding) to one up Star. KO reached up to put the end of the tape measure on the bottom of the skinny man's neck and smoothed it carefully down his spine.
"I think it could be used much the same as traditional battle items, but with the advantage of boosting several stats at once rather than only one," he replied. "I haven't developed anything for pokemon myself, but I have studied the formulae of all current league approved drugs. Working with the facilities and of course other scientists they have here I see no reason we couldn't make it work.... Assuming they have a few competent chemists. If not, well, it'll just take me a bit longer."
Retrieving his notebook KO wrote down the latest few measurements and, once the book was tucked into his pocket, reached up again to measure the width of Star’s shoulders.

"Mmm." Star tilted his chin upward, adjusting his strangely broad pointy shoulders as KO measured them. "Should your Synth prove not to kill the first pokemon it's used on here I would like a supply."

“Much as I’d like to promise you that, Star, I don’t think I’ll have the clearance to decide who gets it,” KO replied as he quickly took a few more measurements. “I’ll certainly suggest you for field testing though; trainers who have perfect control over their pokemon as you do are the place to start, of course.” Just don’t use any on that Starley that attacked your face. ...Actually that could be pretty hilarious to watch if Synth affected pokemon’s moods as it did humans; he could just imagine it tearing out Star’s hair-spike, and the vain man’s cries of despair. Would he get a tiny little toupee to replace it, or try to weave the torn hair back in as extensions?
KO smirked and stepped back around in front of Star with a flourish. “All done Commander! If you’ll leave that uniform with me, I’ll have it adjusted for you by this time tomorrow.” He didn’t imagine it would be a desperately complex job, and for now keeping on Star’s good side was worth working overtime.

"Tsh.." Star sniffed, "That's not a very confidant response, Naos. Already accepted losing control of your creations before it's happened?" He handed over the uniform.

KO accepted the uniform and folded it over one arm, making an airy gesture with his free hand. "Well we can't all have your confidence, Star." You'd have to be an idiot to think that you could control the distribution of that when you were on the bottom rungs of an organization. KO gave Star a winning smile. "Still, I'll do whatever I can to make sure you receive some to work with once the pokemon formula is complete."
It was always hard to know how long development of something new like that would take; he might well be a bit higher up the pecking order by the time it was done, but he wasn't delusional enough to think he would ever have complete control of who got Synth, or whatever the pokemon version ended up called. Heh, PokeSynth probably; Team Rocket had never been famed for its flare in naming things.
