"Hacking? Oh, god. I can... uh, text, and that's about it." Madison gave him a sheepish grin. "Pretty sure Caelius didn't grab me for that. But, well... I used to be pretty good at rumors... social stuff, you know? And since it looks like our lives revolve around some damn freak high school, being good at high school drama might actually be useful. Hah." She shook her head, but the grin was still there.

"Gotten pretty light on my feet, too, what with all this." She tapped the four katana sheathed around her waist. "When I first got this guy, I was freaked out, but we make a good team now." She turned her head and studied him. "What's your weapon, if you don't mind me asking and stuff?" She couldn't tell from just looking. Maybe his weapon was desummoned at the moment?

"Ehe... yeah.."

Deryk glanced at the four swords at her waist. Actually, he had to wonder how she used all those blades at once. Hm. The trainee tilted his head at the thought of imagining her grabbing two swords in each hand.

"How... do you use all of them?" he blinked.

Though, he soon shook his head at the thought as Maddie asked about his own weapon. With a weak smile, he brought up his left hand, where a blade suddenly popped out from his bracer.

"Hidden blade."

"Whoa!" Madison leaned back as suddenly, dude was armed. "Hey, that's cool - real subtle, like. Not like this guy," she added, grinning as she tapped at one hilt again. "And I use 'em two at a time, switching off so he doesn't get, uh, jealous of himself. Four-headed serpent. Kinda complicated. When he's charged all four of 'em go at once, though..."

Deryk smiled a bit at Maddie's reaction to the sudden appearance of the blade.

"Yeah. Even when Tooley's out, it's not obvious I got a weapon. Good for a bit of a surprise. Managed to pull it on Robert once in a spar," he grinned. Granted, he felt he might have held back on the blade a little too long. He nearly lost because of it, but he had one hell of comeback in that particular fight.

"And ooh. That's pretty cool. That's almost like something straight out of a video game. Sweet."

As if his own weapon wasn't.

"Hah, nice," Madison said, flashing Deryk a brief thumbs-up after he mentioned surprising Robert. "Don't get my wrong, Robert's like... I dunno, a big brother or something, but he's fun to surprise. I owe him a couple myself, after everything he's pulled..." There was an impish expression on her face for a moment.

"And oh, yeah - heh, Bix thought the same thing about Kouki, except he was all talking about movies and stuff. Not something I have a lot of experience with, personally, but..." She shrugged.

"Oh yeah. He's a cool guy. Just.. um. Kinda special. Guess you could say. Something like that..."

Deryk shook his head before looking at Madison curiously when she mentioned owing Robert a few things. Did she mean she needed to get back at him for one thing or another? Hm.

"Ah. Wasn't much of a movie or game fan before?"

"Nah, not really - hah. Makeup, hair, magazines, whatever was 'in'." She made air quotes around the word 'in'. "I mean, high school's rough, trying to find out who you are and stuff... I guess I didn't even start really figuring that s**t out until I came here. Gave me time to think, without malls and TV and everything else I could distract myself with, y'know? Never really, uh... games and stuff, though. That was for nerds." She shook her head, clearly not agreeing with nerd as a real pejorative anymore.

"You feel like you have to care about weird s**t when you're trying to stay on top of the heap. As if that mattered... my senior year would be just about over right now. I missed the whole thing. Thought it'd be the best year of my life."

Madison paused, looking thoughtful. "It was, actually. Just wasn't anything - anything - like how I thought it'd be."

Ah. So she was one of those in highschool. Deryk had run into a fair deal of girls like that during his time in school.

"Y-yeah... was always kind of on the bottom myself. Never really got the attention of the girls and stuff," he murmured before looking at Madison curiously.

"So you're glad you left all that then?"

"Yeah, heh. There wasn't any future in it. All that buildup for something with a time limit, and then you're in college and... what? Only reason any of that s**t is useful now is because our work - for some ******** reason - revolves around a freakin' monster high school." She grinned and bowed, self-depreciatingly. "Maybe someday we'll graduate to monster government or some s**t. Monster college. Monster tea parties, I dunno."
PostPosted: Fri Jun 15, 2012 12:12 pm

"Heh. True enough," Deryk said thinking back. It was true. None of the stuff he really learned in High school really helped him out at all. Not for after he graduated, and not really for what was going on here.

"Well. We kinda did already. With.. the whole horseman deal. Definitely wasn't some highschool to deal with there. Not that.. .they weren't there too."

"And now they're alllll dead, or almost," Madison said, and there was definitely a pleased, feral edge to her grin, like a cat satisfied after catching prey. "How's the hand feeling?" They were at the door to the Life Labs now, and she opened it, holding it open for him.

Ok that was just creepy. Deryk grinned a little nervously and nodded to her. He didn't really have anything to say about that. But the thought as a whole disturbed him. And so he just focused on the question she asked instead.

"Still hurts. Probably will for awhile. Don't.. think it's still bleeding at least. Hope it isn't. Feels like I could sit down for awhile though."

"They're probably gonna have to stitch it up," Madison said, matter-of-factly. "Too bad Clarice isn't here, or I'd give you over to her... they're not all crazy, though. Promise." Well, she was reasonably sure, at least.

"Hey!" she said, sharply, as a tech tried to scurry past them; the Hunter stopped in his tracks, giving them a confused look, as if she'd snapped him out of some serious thinking. Well, too bad. "He needs help - lost a finger. I did basic field care but it's not gonna keep."
PostPosted: Wed Jun 27, 2012 10:04 am

Stitches were pretty much a given, considering the nature of the wound. His lip probably needed to be stitched up too. Once they were in there, Deryk let Maddie do the talking since she had already called the attention of one of the techies. At the mention of the lost finger, he slowly held his hand up to show what she was talking about. It wasn't hard to see that there was a missing digit there.

"Thanks.." he murmured to his fellow death hunter.

"No problem - I hope it all heals up properly," Madison replied, with a wry grin. The tech took Deryk's uninjured arm, clearly intending to take him back to a treatment room; Madison gave the Death Hunter a nod.

"I guess I better get back there... nice meeting you, though next time let's meet under better circumstances... well, we're both in the same division. Training sometime, maybe? Once you're fixed up?" she offered. It had been a while.
