"We're almosssst like talking minipetsss in mossst cassses," She replied bashfully, in an equally soft voice, "What'ssss a Clove though?" She didn't see a minipet tagging along with Siddie... Unless she had missed something.
"Well, we will be having tea shortly," He replied with a chuckle, stopping in front of a rather small shop by the side of the main road running through Town Heights. If he had noticed her subtle changes, he didn't show it. He gently removed Siddie's hand from his arm and moved to hold the door open for her; immediately, the smell of freshly baked pastries wafted out from the shop, "After you."

Siddie lifted her free hand to tug lightly on the hooded capelet that she wore around her shoulders. "Clove," she called softly. "Clove, here, prettypretty." There was a slight movement inside the hood, then a chirp; a drutten just as shadowy-dark as Siddie herself climbed up onto Siddie's shoulder, blinking drowsily.
"That's true!" she answered cheerfully, and folded her hands as Thanatos opened the door for her. "Thank you," she nodded, and went in, looking around the shop with bright interest. "Oh, it smells so good in here."

Biskoto saw minipets as food, but she also understood that owned minipets are friends. Not food. She stayed back for a while, and then slowly inched forward, until she could almost touch the minipet, "Hello, Clove!" She hissed softly, then bumped her nose gently against the minipet's, hoping that she didn't startle it.
Minipets see her, and get startled all the time.
"Doesn't it? Admittedly, it's my first time here, but I had read several good reviews about this shop, so it should not be a wasted trip," When Biskoto was done with the minipet, he moved away to a table by the window overseeing the street; he liked people watching... Never mind the lack of privacy. Standing behind one of the chairs, he pulled it back, and gestured for Siddie to eat down, "Ladies first?"

Clove watched Biskoto warily, its instinct reading Big Predator clearly enough; it dug little claws into the fabric of Siddie's cape, hunched down, and stayed put, its ears lowering warily. Still, it trusted Handler. Handler wasn't going to let Clove get eaten, so if it stayed on her it would be safe. It let out a low, anxious hiss as Big Predator touched noses with it, but then Big Predator went away without being aggressive, so everything was fine. Clove chirped again and wrapped itself around Handler's shoulders like a little shawl of shadow. She always seemed to like that.
Siddie smiled at Thanatos and seated herself graciously, patting her skirts into place and scooting her chair in. "Such a gentleman," she said.

Biskoto wasn't sure how to feel about Clove's reaction to her; on one hand - not that she had hands - it was good that Clove reacted to her like the predator she was, but it was almost saddening in a way... That the students she got along with had minipets that did not like her because she would eat a wild minipet for lunch.
After Siddie was seated, he took the chair opposite hers, passing her the menu that was on the side of the table, "Feel free to order whatever you want," He chuckled, stroking Biskoto along the top of her head as she relaxed, "Like I said, it's my treat today."

"Clove takes a little while to warm up to strangers," Siddie said, a little apologetically, and lifted her hand to rub behind the drutten's ear. It relaxed and chirped again softly.
She accepted the menu and smiled, "Thank you. It's very kind of you." The shop sold all kinds of pastries and confections; Siddie tapped a finger thoughtfully on her lip, studying the menu. When the waitress arrived to take their order, she said, "A brains tartlet and a cup of scream tea, please." A light snack, and one that was easy to eat tidily; first impressions were important after all. She smiled at Thanatos. "One of my tutors was a jiang-shi; she served me scream tea, traditional style, and I acquired a taste for it."

"Oh, that'ssss underssssstandable, darling!" She nodded at Siddie with a smile, looking at the drutten, "It probably doessssn't help that sssshe sssseesss me as a predator..." As it should be.
"Oh? Can't say I've ever had it," He looked at the menu again, before looking up at the waitress, "I'll have a slice of booberry pie, and a cup of scream tea as well." The waitress noted down the orders with a smile, and removed the menus from the table.
"I usually get fruit teas," He chuckled, "But I figured it was time to try something new."

Siddie nodded in return. "It's a love, but it's pretty shy."
"Oh, it's lovely," Siddie assured Thanatos. "A little noisy sometimes, but if it's been whisked properly the screams are really more like whimpers. It's a nice light tea, very subtle in flavor." She smiled. "Maybe someday I'll learn how to serve it myself. Oh, maybe Junko could teach me - I'll have to ask her."

"Is that so?" He stroked his chin, looking mildly amused, "Let's hope that this little cafe does it right then, so as to leave me with a good impression of this tea."
He paused momentarily at Siddie's mention of a familiar name, raising an eyebrow, "Junko? If I recall, she was the student council's vice-president? I met her once, during the Scarentine's Event held by the student council... I never would have guessed that she would be so multi-talented though." He chuckled lightly.
"Sorry for the wait!" The waitress had returned, this time holding a circular tray with their purchases on it. It did not take long for her to serve the food, handling Thanatos a small clipboard with a receipt clipped to it; apparently they would have to take that to the cashier when they were done. She then smiled, "Would that be all? If so, please check if the items on the receipt are accurate."
"I believe so, yes," He answered, looking at the piece of paper before putting it back down on the table.
"Please enjoy your food!" She smiled again before leaving, returning to her place behind the counter.
Looking at Siddie, he grinned, giving her a nod, "Ladies first."

"Oh, she's very talented! She bakes also, and she designs and sews her own outfits. She's amazing," Siddie said. "I don't know how she does it all. And always so cheerful."
She smiled at the waitress and bobbed her head in thanks. She was mildly curious about what the cost had been, but it would be rude to check; a lady didn't ask when she was being treated. Instead, she lifted the lid on her cup of tea, and smiled with satisfaction at the soft and whiny screams that emerged. "It sounds right," she said, and took a sip. "Oh, yes. Very delicately made."

"That sounds like a lot of work," He chuckled lightly, pretty amused at the amount of praise that Junko was receiving from Siddie, "It's no wonder that she's Student Council vice-president then."
He picked up his own cup, following the ghoul's example, first listening to the sounds emitting from the tea before taking a sip; it was actually pretty pleasant... Not as fragrant or sweet as the teas that he was used to, but still pretty good in its own way. He took another sip before placing the cup back on the table; he could get used to it.
"How about the brain tartlet?" He asked, waiting for her to tuck in first.

"Yes, I don't think I could do it all myself," Siddie said. "I just don't have the energy. But she does it well."
She took a forkful of the tartlet and sampled it. "Oh, it's delicious," she decided. "The crust is flaky and the brains are lightly flavored. I bet Sammy would like this, I should tell her about it." She smiled. "How is yours?"

"It looks like I'll have to make a second trip down just to try it for myself," He chuckled lightly, cutting himself a small piece of booberry pie with his fork, starting with the sharper end.
"Oh? And who is this 'Sammy'?" He asked, before looking down at his plate, "The filling is baked well, and obviously not artificially sweetened. The crust is delicious as well, not too thick; it compliments the natural sweetness of the booberry."

"I think I'll have to add this tea shop to my list," Siddie said, and giggled. "Properly brewed tea and well-baked pastries! You don't find that just anywhere."
"Oh, Sammy is my ghoulfriend," she explained. "I have a picture of her on my phone, here," and she dug her eyePhone out of her pocket and switched the display to a photo of herself and Sammy. "I've developed a better taste for brains since I met her, you see."

"Indeed," He chuckled, taking another bite out of his pie with Biskoto looking down at the dessert with a curious expression; being a carnivore meant that desserts such as pies would only upset her tummy, but she had always wondered what the attraction was... She preferred her food raw and freshly killed, after all.
"I see," He lowered his fork, leaning forward to look at the photo, amused that this 'Sammy' looked like someone who might not enjoy the same things Siddie might enjoy... Then again, wasn't there a saying about how opposites tend to attract?
"If you do not mind me asking, how long have the two of you been together?" He asked, his gaze shifting from the screen of the eyephone to Siddie.
