He was so close to losing it right there, but managed to defy her expectations yet again. Perhaps it was time for her to raise them, he was surprisingly smarter than he looked. " Right then, Tacky," she said dismissively, leading him down a muddy path, " what should I do with you? You know, I was in the middle of getting lunch when I was interrupted by your silly shenanigans and threatening to fall over after racing, of all things, a Kiokote." She cut him freely with her words and intentional (and not wholly true) jibes, it was a strange sort of liberty that she never really had. " You look more likely to trample the good stuff than find them, but I guess I’ll ask - are you any good at gathering berries?" Ruriska Thanks my dear! PS: Ack, I'm sorry I made you fill out the 'skills' section re: Killing Moon, you didn't have to and I forgot DDD8

Maxx D No worries. xD It was only a line or so. <3 Not smarter perhaps; just stubborn. Bring It On followed. He was still terribly tired from his run and his head dropped despite his continued efforts to raise it higher. With each cutting barb, his scowl increased, but he merely continued to plod persistently along behind her. Wait, was that another challenge? His ears flickered forward and his chest rose and fell with a heavy sigh, but he forced his head up and nudged his shoulder against hers as he hurried his steps forward to prove that he was in fact, extremely good at collecting berries. Not that he knew where any were, having raced into an area he knew nothing about, but he picked a direction and stuck to it, hoping he’d come across a berry bush sooner or later.

Phlox watched him trundle off for a while, and smiled wryly as she tracked him through the foliage. A while later, and this time she touched his shoulder, and subtly nudged him to berries nearby.
Her kindness - or at least, her complete and utter triumph over his manly pride - had prevailed at the moment. After all, he obviously had no idea where he was going, nor was he the freshest buck in the bush right now, and it would only be a waste of valuable time. Instead, as they 'encountered' a handy berry plant, she laughed. "Oh look, and against all odds, Tacky, you've found one! What a surprise, I was so sure you wouldn't be able to. Perhaps you aren't so useless after all." She looked over with a wink, and started on a ripe bunch. "You may now open your mouth...just to eat, mind."

Bring It On refused to look at the doe as he continued his pointless searching, plodding along defiantly with no idea how to go about finding berries in this area. But he responded to her gentle nudge, not even realizing he had been directed, and looked thoroughly surprised when they soon came across (and he nearly stepped on) the berry plant.
For a moment he grinned with simple, boyish pleasure. He had been a little daunted to begin with. But he could complete his task. He’d show her! Faith in himself restored for the moment, the buck bumped up against Phlox and got to work devouring as many berries as he could.

Phlox idly watched him wolf down half the poor plant and smiled wryly, finding the sight oddly appealing in a moronic manner. She hadn't run across a mind this simple before, and she was so sure that when she did it would kill her with frustration...but as it was, stupidity with its mouth shut (theoretically) and miserable could be quite tolerable. An indulgent shake of her head, and she continued her lunch on the next bush, considering what the rest of the day held for her and her clueless hanger-on, Tacky.
