The last thing the Gym Leader expected to see in the battle was a Ralts. Even more shocking was when it unloaded a Confusion attack that sent his Pidgeotto reeling backwards. Apparently the kid had found a way to train up the Psychic-type until it learned some offensive moves. "Very nice," he muttered to himself.
As powerful as his Pidgeotto was though, the Gym Leader knew he'd have better success by switching to his Woobat. Approximately three seconds later, the bird had been replaced by the bat, which chittered away happily as it emerged from the Pokeball. "Let's start with Assurance!" the leader commanded. The bat swiftly floated across the arena to the little white Pokemon, smacking it repeatedly with its wings to inflict damage.

It looked like Graham had caught the leader off-guard again by using his Ralts. That... that was a good thing, right? Especially if it meant that the Pidgeotto was out. And... now there was a bat on the field. It certainly didn't look like some sort of Zubat family member, so with a quick flick of his handy-dandy Pokedex, got the answer he needed. Woobat, Flying/Psychic Pokemon. With some Dark-type moves, it looked. Lloyd didn't stand a chance. As the Psychic-type was defeated, Graham called it back. He briefly contemplated his next move before deciding to send out his own bird. "T.T., use Hypnosis!" he said, letting out his Hoothoot. Though two of his opponent's Pokemon were down, the Gym Leader took nothing for granted. The Shinx was still lurking somewhere in the trainer's team, and now his Woobat had been put to sleep by the Hoothoot's psychic skills. He was in a bind, no doubt about that, but giving up wasn't in his nature.
As it was, the leader was content to let his bat sleep. His opponent's owl couldn't deal too much damage to it while it slept and hopefully when the Woobat awoke, it could finish the fight swiftly. "Come on Woobat, wake up!" the Gym Leader shouted as loud as he could. No reason to let his opponent get too much of a drop on him.

Huh. The Woobat fell asleep. Was this a chance? Hm... yeah, this was a chance. A Farfetch'd, a Woobat, and a Pidgeotto. This was the Leader's team. They were pretty strong. He could probably barely get by from being underleveled and all, if he could continue to pressure the leader like this. "Alright T.T., get in there and Peck it!" called out Graham, giving out his order. The owl flew over towards the bat and then rapped his beak against it. ... Amazingly enough, the bat stayed unconscious despite the sharp rap of the Hoothoot's beak, dreamily floating through the air without a care in the world. It almost looked peaceful to the Gym Leader - that is, if the fate of the match hadn't been on the line. "Wake up Woobat!" he shouted again, but the bat seemed either unable to hear him or was disinclined to rouse itself yet. He cursed silently - it would need to wake up soon or risk taking too much damage before it could respond in kind.

The bat had surprisingly not woken up from the attack. Though, look how peaceful it slept. It must have been enjoying a good dream. That was nice... he wished he could dream some good dreams too. Unfortunately, all good dreams had to come to an end, one way or another. Whether it was now or later was all up to the dreamer, after all. "T.T., give it another Peck! But rather than fly over and Peck it in midair, use your size to land on it before pecking to force it to the ground!" Graham commanded. The small owl was bigger than the bat, after all. He probably weighed more too. The kid was smart. As the Hoothoot plummeted onto the leader's Woobat for another Peck attack, it simultaneously knocked it out of the air, sending both winged Pokemon onto the floor of the gym in an attack that was remarkably similar to Sky Drop. The Hoothoot clearly was rattled by the lack of resistance from its foe, but the Woobat had sustained the brunt of the attack. It awoke immediately and fluttered back to its original height, but it was clearly hurting badly. The Gym Leader nodded approvingly. It was a good plan.
"Alright Woobat, let's hit him with Heart Stamp!" the leader ordered. He knew the bat had only one attack left in it, but intended to make the most of it. His Woobat made no verbal response, but simply flexed its nose and sent a glowing, pink heart towards the Hoothoot.

Okay, that probably did a lot of damage to the Woobat. The move ended up giving his Hoothoot some recoil (he'd have to work on that later), and it also woke up the sleeping bat. And right off the bat it fired a... heart? It was long-range, so probably a special attack. Psychic though? T.T. had no long-range moves, and he kind of wanted to keep the owl around in case someone else made a reappearance to put it to sleep, so he called it back after the Hoothoot took his first hit. "You did good, T.T. Alrighty, Kippers, it's all you buddy! Finish it off with a Water Gun!" Graham commanded. The Mud Fish Pokemon appeared from the ball before it pulled his head back briefly. It then fired a blast of water at the bat to hopefully finish it off. He was kinda glad the leader allowed him to use all six of his Pokemon. The blast of water finished off the leader's Woobat, which fell from the sky with a high-pitched shriek that bordered on ultrasonic. Not for the first time the Gym Leader was happy he'd left in his earplugs after fighting the girl with the Whismur. "Return Woobat!" he called as he held out the Psychic's Pokeball. "Excellent job."
This left the leader with one Pokemon remaining, and one that had been injured already at that, versus four of the kid's Pokemon. Unless his opponent made a serious mistake, the battle was likely over. Still though, he wasn't going to give up and just give the kid the badge. "It's all up to you, Pidgeotto!" the leader said as he released his falcon again. "Use Fly, get out of the Water Gun's range!" With a squawk, the bird shot up towards the rafters, hovering above it's foe and waiting for the ideal moment to swoop down.

The Woobat was done and... was he actually back to the Pidgeotto now? Huh... he could actually win this. He just couldn't mess up here. The falcon flew high into the air, just out of reach from being blasted by a Water Gun. It had to come back down sometime to ram into his Pokemon at some point with Fly, right? So rather than chase after it, he would let it come to him. He pointed Kipper's ball at the Mudkip to call him back, then sent out Lucius the Shinx. The lion cub looked a little worn out with his fight against the Farfetch'd, but he intimidated the falcon high up in the air with his presence to limit the damage done to him. Of course, the collision would probably take him out too. "Lucius, I need you to Charge up now, and when the Pidgeotto gets close, meet it with a Spark." Graham commanded. The leader grit his teeth. With the Shinx out, the battle was all but over - even if he managed to take it out, the kid still had too many Pokemon available for him to win. Let's just end it here, he thought grimly. "Here we go Pidgeotto!" the gym leader called up to his Pokemon. "Use Fly!" The bird plummeted from its altitude with a shriek, striking the small lion cub as hard as it could, with every ounce of momentum it had gained from the dive.

((No idea man. They do become a little more intimidating later though once they evolve, so maybe they're intimidating to other small Pokemon?)) Graham held his breath as the leader commanded his Pokemon to dive and strike the Shinx. The electricity the lion cub had charged up discharged upon contact from the Fly attack, not only hurting Lucius but also dealing damage to the Pidgeotto. Lucius went down, energy sapped from the premature discharge, and couldn't fight anymore in this battle. But it didn't look the Pidgeotto could fight anymore after that either, maybe. Simultaneous knock-out? "... Is it over?" Graham asked. "It's over," the Gym Leader replied, recalling his Pidgeotto. "Even if you hadn't taken out my entire team, I still would have awarded you the badge for creative tactics. This is yours," he said, handing over the shiny metal badge. "Congratulations."

The sub confirmed that it was indeed over. Whew... Miror B., Lloyd, and Lucius's efforts weren't in vain after all. Graham pulled off his hat and slid his arm across his forehead to wipe away the sweat. "Whew... that was pretty intense. I knew I was going to have a rough time fighting a Gym Leader without any previous experience fighting other Trainers, but I didn't expect it to be this tough." he said, calling back the lion cub. "Thanks... I learned a lot in that battle. I think I know what my weaknesses were this time, so maybe I'll be a little more prepared for future battles." After he claimed the badge from the sub and stored it away in his bag, he gave a small bow. "Thank you. You were a tough opponent. That Pidgeotto of yours was really strong." he added. "I wish you luck in your next challenge." He then straightened himself and, after readjusting his glasses spoke again.
