"It has changed a bit over time. To fight to survive. To complete the task at hand. To not be the weakest link."
Shun paused as he thought about some of his past experiences. He didn't exactly strive to be the strongest. It had more or less been to not be the weakest. To not be a failure or a disappointment. To an extent, that was still there within him.
"That's still there. But I fight because I want to ensure the ones I care for stay safe. It.. may not be a guarantee..." he frowned, thinking about how Mitsu felt towards him after he had lost his eye. She blamed that on herself, but it really wasn't something she could have changed.
"But if I don't fight. If I don't strive to improve, the likelihood of something dire happening to them increases. To give up is to lose at the start."

Hel stilled as she listened to Shun talk about his resolve, watching the reaper intently as he spoke. He said something that really struck her deep down. The beauty about Shun was that he didn’t speak in terms about winning, he spoke in terms of being practical. Hel had been so focused on conquering…maybe she was setting herself up for failure from the beginning?
What really stood out to her though was: If I don't strive to improve, the likelihood of something dire happening to them increases…
The likelihood of something dire happening…
Fighting to decrease the chance of something dire happening…
That sounded…reasonable. Simple and reasonable.
A hand reached up to press over her chest as she felt her heart thrum in excitement. Was this the kind of will that would be suited to her as well? Warrior honor and instinct seemed to think so. A smiled tugged at her lips once more as she looked down at the hula hoop. “…You think that is why everyone gets so bent out of shape? They try so hard to win…when maybe…all this time they should just be focusing on doing what they can?”

Shun watched Hel as she digested what he said. It was a little hard to tell, but it was like something had sparked within her. Perhaps it was just his imagination on that regard. As for her question, he shrugged lightly.
"It's possible. Granted, it is still easy to be hard on yourself. Failure and I have an odd... relationship you could say," he murmured while taking in a deep breath, "Should I fail, it is either because I had not tried hard enough or because I simply was not good enough for the task. It sucks. And I hate it."
Oh how he hated failure so much. That and the disappointment that always followed it. Letting out a deep breath, he shook his head and stared at Hel rather intently.
"But it's within that failure that I know I must work harder to try and not fail again."

“ Agreed!” Hel nodded her head. Yes, it was way too easy to be hard on yourself. “… I agree in regards to the relationship with failure as well. I…I truly do feel the same way. That is why we are the way we are now. Because we were not good enough to prevent it, ya? But…but maybe we can be, right? It is as you say…it is within the loss of your eye and my wings, that we know we must work harder.” The reaper rolled the hula hoop back and forth again, before she picked it up and flung it away from them. It ended up landing flat on the grass, right near one of the brick walls. “ Go, Shun!” Hel suddenly cried, staring at the reaper intently. “ I challenge you to shadow step into that hoop!” Quote: Beat my roll for success : D

Shun nodded quietly to Hel, he soon stared as she threw it to the side. He could swear that object wasn't used for throwing most of the time, but perhaps he was wrong. Then again, she soon explained herself. Oh. A challenge then?
"Hmph."
Staring at the hoop, he focused while trying to gauge the distance he'd need to step. After a moment, his form disappeared into shadowy wisps.
A split second later, he reappeared, standing inside of the hoop. He wasn't dead center, and was close to the edge, but he was still standing in it.
"Like that?"

Hel stared, and waited.
Damn.
“…Heh! Not bad!” She called out to the reaper. “I think you were just ******** lucky though!” A bit of a grin pulled at her lips now, and she was determined to see Shun not make it now. The ghoul came over, and shooed the grim out of her hoop, where she then picked it up and flung it to the other opposite side of the gardens, watching as it pinged a bit off of the other brick wall and rested near it on the grass. “As soon as you are able, try again. The distance is further this time…but I am sure you can handle it, ya?”
She crossed her arms and waited.

Nodding, Shun waited a couple minutes patiently until he was able to shadowstep again. Once he was all set, he let out a breath and focused on the hoop once more.
Again, he managed to plant himself into the plastic circle without too much of an issue. Hm. Perhaps he wasn't as crippled as he thought he was originally. Or that he had adapted faster than expected.
"Perhaps something more challenging is needed. Though. You. We need ways to test you as well."

Hel frowned as Shun made it into the hoop again. Damn it! She really wanted to see him not make it. Yes, she was a good friend, she knew. The reaper moved over to him, picking up the hoop once more. “ Test me, huh? Ya, sure, whatever, in a moment, ya? I think you need to keep doing this. What if those first two times were just lucky?” Hel flung the hula hoop back towards the reaper dorms, watching as it bounced off the stone wall a bit and then landed on the grass once more. She then turned to look at Shun expectantly.

Shun let out a sigh before shrugging. Once more couldn't hurt. Again, he waited a couple minutes so that he was able to move again, then focused on the hoop's location. He then shadow stepped to the inner part of the plastic ring for the third time. To say in the very least, he was surprised he wasn't having much trouble with this.
"There." he said while turning towards the Valkyrie. Perhaps it was her turn to be tested now.

Hel actually looked kinda mad that Shun kept making it into the hoop. He had lost in eye! Surely his coordination couldn’t be back to proficient already!
“Tch! Still lucky!” Hel snapped, and stomped over to grab the hoop. The ghoul slung it over her shoulder, spat at her hands, rubbed them together, and then started to scale the brick wall of the garden. She reached the top and pulled off the hoop, and with a hard swing of her arm, flung the hoop farther than she had been tossing it along the grass next to the reaper dorm. The hoop though, of course, landed right next to the stone wall of the dorms.
Right where Hel wanted it to.
She looked down over her shoulder, a brow rising in challenge. “Try again!”

The Reaper quirked a brow at her, then waited to see what she was up to. He watched curiously as she went and scaled the brick wall to the garden before flinging it close to the dorm building. Furrowing his brow a bit, he gauged the distance, deciding that it was still within his range. Shun focused on the hoop, waiting until he was able to use his ability once more.
When he was capable of doing so once more, he disappeared into the shadowy wisps.
Upon reappearing, he stood at the center of the hoop, managing to not crash right into the stone wall right in front of him. He glanced down at his feet for a moment, then turned around towards the Valkyrie, just staring at her silently.

Damn it Shun!
Hel stomped her foot on top of the brick wall, and leapt down from it. Her landing was no where near graceful, and without her wings to right her, the ghoul ended up stumbling forward quite a bit with her arms flailing until she managed to catch herself. She then, once more stumped over to Shun and took back her hoop. “Lots of training for you today, Shun.” The reaper stressed, and flung the hoop away from them once more.
This time it landed where the brick wall of the garden met the stone wall of the reaper dorms.

Shun eyed Hel a bit warily. She kept throwing the hoop near the walls. Even so, he just silently waited once more. He was beginning to wear down a little, but he felt he could still keep this up for awhile. But still, he was shadowstepping fairly consistently here.
Letting out a breath, he turned towards his target, focusing on its location. When he was ready, he went ahead and teleported. There was something different this time though. Right upon his arrival, there was a fairly loud thud and grunt as he ended up misjudging the distance and crashed himself right into the brick wall.
It was enough of an impact to cause him to fall to the grass, kind of stunned.

Hel watched the grim with baited breath.
She waited, and waited, and waited and—
WHAM.
Hel’s eyes went wide as she stared at Shun, who looked rather dazed before he fell back onto the grass. It was silent for a long moment. One could hear the crows cawing up above. Then—
“BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!”
The valkyrie fell backwards onto the grass herself, clutching her stomach as she roared with laughter. How did she have friends? Seriously.

It took a few more moments before Shun shook off the dazed feeling and slowly rolled himself over so he could start getting up. The first thing he noticed really was that Hel was laughing at him. His good eye twitched slightly at this as he just silently stood up, staring at her rather intently, practically glaring at the valkyrie right now.
