"The fog... yes. I am building hypotheses, slowly..." At the mention of timelines, Malodore sighed. "I noticed it at Scarentine's - or, rather, the evidence became undeniable at that point. I had assumed any previous strangeness was due to the damage Riley had done to her by the master Hunter. Which I believe it was... perhaps." It shook its head. "I am not sure, now. It may have been contracted properly during Christmastival. There is no way to tell."

"Ah, the damage that caused the hole...?" She wasn't there to witness it, but everyone did end up at Nurse Cricket's after dissipation, so she saw the aftermath, where Riley was laying on a bed in Nurse Cricket's office, "But we've been cut by Caelius' weapon before and it didn't have that effect... What was special or different?"
She sighed, "Scarentine's... I didn't even notice... Well, if it's Insanity, I think stage one might be what the students are going through right now... Like you called it, uh, psychological disruptions? Jericho acted that way about one October before Scarentine's... And I don't think he was injured the way Riley was?"

"Yes, that, precisely... and I don't know." Malodore shook its head again, this time grinding its beak together. "There are so many variables that I hope to isolate. On the Island, I experienced the Insanity as well, yet it felt different. More hallucinatory, less single-minded focus towards home. It may be that time has strengthened it and given it that focus. And clearly it can taint JOY as well as FEAR. I only hope the apparition created when the Four Clans fell has given the Hunters a great deal of trouble and pain. Perhaps it will eradicate them completely, and save us time and effort."

"If I find out anything new, I will tell you immediately... Hopefully, that would help," She nodded, and looked a little sheepish; she had heard about the 'apparition' from Xiu, and was just glad that it didn't end up going through the portal to Halloween instead, "That would be nice... But even if it doesn't eradicate them, I hope that it is causing them a lot of trouble, buying us the time we need to recover from this..."
She paused briefly, and then gave Malodore another pat on his shoulder, "If there's nothing else, I'll leave you to your work now... But do remember to take breaks. You need to take care of yourself too..."

" Si. Thank you, Lizzy." It opened its beak in a small smile. "It is good to have people remind me - to have people care to remind me. I am glad for that help, more than you know. There is so much to do, and I cannot do it all. This is not a failing, simply a truth." That was said more for its own benefit than hers. "... There is one more thing. The time... when will this take place?"

"It is difficult to try to carry everything alone," She nodded in agreement, tilting her head at the question, "Uh, tentatively... Evening, in the next few days. I'm not sure how long preparations will take, but hopefully by Moonday, everything should be ready. Is that alright?"

"Of course," Malodore said, bobbing its head. " Grazie mille, I... I am truly touched... by all you've done. Thank you."

"You're welcome," Her expression softened, and she was smiling a little, "We'll pull through this. Somehow we will... I'll see you again... Real soon." Dipping her head at Malodore, she wriggled her fingers at the two puppies in the room, and then left.
It was going to be a long, long weekend.
