"Or perhaps my eye for vegetation is not as keen as yours." Sal replied, watching the Alchemist peel off some bark and sprout a lesson in resources. Of course he knew that, but after a while even treebark sleds would crush under the weight of the slabs they seemed keen on collecting. "The sled would make it easier to return later; at least the terrain on the way back would be more supportive." The Sage mused, stroking his pale chin thoughtfully.
"Yuuyuu?" He interjected helpfully, moments after the loud one called out, and chuckled as she saw fit to correct him on her full name. "Yuzhi, then." He agreed.
"What he means is, It's very nice to meet you." Sal added to Fai's introduction, grinning away as though amused by his bluntness. He had to agree though; this climate was very cold, and he found himself burrowing into his own mass of robes, at least enough to pull them tighter against his very emaciated frame. He eyed the group curiously as more formal introductions came about; so, the loud one was Lee Tseng, likely just called 'Tseng'...and was a soldier. Somehow, that didn't seem right; he seemed too loud to be a soldier, but he kept that to himself for now. "Well met, friends. My name is Salbei Purge, and I am a Sage of Famine. But please, call me Sal." Another bow, another soft clink of nicknacks in his hair.
"Your tree would make an excellent marker." Sal agreed, dragging his stone slabs (and his pine needles, because he didn't seem too keen on carrying anything right now, near the dead tree in a small pile that was most certainly his, adding to it the pile of clay he had discovered while moving his most recent stone slab. As he did, he watched the little Conquest girl, curious about someone so small; so, to make conversation... "Do you have a job class, Little Yuzhi?" She was letting Sal slide a lot on the 'Little' business. Mostly because she couldn't garner a taunting tone to his voice when he referred to her stature but that didn't mean she was pleased about it. She dug around on the ground a bit idly and uncovered two round pebbles to add to her little pile of resources. She approved of her brother's hard work even though she wished she wouldn't tire himself needlessly by carting around the heavier things like he was now.
Yuzhi let Tseng do as he pleased.
It wasn't until she was content with the placement of her items that she answered Sal's question (mostly so she could answer in a friendly tone), "I am a Scholar. I specialize in the area of learning about cultures and their folklore, while learning more about my own as well in the bargain."
She looked over at the one named 'Fai' and gave a small nod, "Pleased to meet you and Sal," as they are the only two that offered up a name. Her manners slipped at times. Oops. The Weeping Forest did not exactly live up to its name.
Standing quite a distance away from the others who were gathering up supplies, Mengyao Miao brushed a few strands of dark hair away from his face and gazed around with a disinterested sort of expression on his pale face. It shifted a little as a breeze rifled through the air, lip curling in a disgruntled manner.
The clans were destroyed, and here he was, standing in the middle of a forest picking up twigs.
The irony was very, very heavy. He did not want to be here, but it seemed as if he had no choice. Already he could hear a familiar, quiet voice speaking, the words slightly muffled and unintelligible from the distance Mengyao stood at. His eyes swept over towards the other horsemen, and landed on the small, dark haired figure, arms filled with various leaves, rocks, and what looked like...a tree of sorts, the bark falling off.
Mengyao snorted. With a sigh, he silently made his way towards her, and when he reached the area where she stood, he passed behind her, one hand reaching out to pat Yuzhi on the head.
"Ah, I see you're here, little puppy," said Mengyao with a benign sort of smile, dropping his free hand to reach down and pick up a handful of pine needles, idly sifting them around in his greying fingers.
He wondered where Lifen and Lan were. Hopefully near. Mengyao's Scant Inventory

Nodding to Sal, Tseng continued to grin as he searched for more materials to bring back to the reserve. As he did so, he couldn't help but notice Mengyao coming on in to help out. He was a little less familiar of their cousin than his sister, but he did see him around now and then. Frowning lightly at the guy as he tended to get Yuzhi kind of riled up, the soldier soon noticed a small pile of leaves near his feet. Carefully, he bent over and picked them up. They were pretty dry. Maybe they would make for good tender for fire. Deciding that this was indeed their purpose, he stuffed them into the satchel he brought along. Indeed, the little artisan was closer than expected, having followed the group of people to the Weeping Forest, ready to help her fellow horsemen in any way that she could, quietly. Anything to get out of that sad sort of area that they considered a homebase.
Breathing in the air and just feeling comfortable with everything, she wandered through, looking for things that would be useful to them back at the base, her bare feet brushed quietly through the grasses, the only sounds around her were the wind and the bells that she had on her top, that jangled softly, and slightly muted in the folds of her fabrics. She had taken her shoes off ages ago, and hiked her skirts up, so that her traslucent legs were fully bare up to over her knees, every bone showing clear as day through the dark skin, shifting and setting with every movement. Lastly she had undone her long hair, tying it in a bun, allowing some of the hair wisp at the bottom, so it was out of the way.
She didn't feel like getting herself that dirty quite yet.
It was pretty impressive as to how fast the little scavenging party had built up - it was mostly Conquest, but there were a few other group members showing up from other clans - dropping their guards on each other to band together and work towards making something more "home". Whatever that would be now.
Bending down at the knees, she picked up a few larger chunks of tree bark that had been discarded from the trees before standing up again, looking to Yuhzi and Mengyao through dark eyelashes, muttering a soft "Will this help?" Hoping that her find would be useful, if anything.Quote: Lifen's List: 1 x Tree Bark

Had Sal known she was irritated by his nickname for her, he might have considered stopping. Maybe. Or at least expressed it was not a jab at all, he thought it was cute because she was cute. Frownyfaces were always the most adorable things in the world. Next to maybe emaciated puppies.
"A Scholar?" Sal gasped out, suddenly more than interested. "Little Yuzhi, I do believe you are my new best friend! I would love to hear any stories you possess!" As he picked through this and that on the surrounding trees (and startling rather loudly as an unusual creature popped out of a bush in front of him and bolted off), he took notice of the loud one - Tseng - and his insisting on carting around all the things.
"I admire your energy, Lee Tseng." He praised, wondering if it would ever be possible to borrow him for errands one day, if he was nice enough to the boy. "How much do you think you could carry before getting tired?" It was an important question, probably. His searching was disracted at best, trying to do two things at once; find materials, and figure out what to make of the rag-tag group of survivors. Were they on the islands, or were they away? Did they know eachother? Had they lost Family? Friends? So many questions, and yet now seemed inappropriate to be completely outright about it.
"And you, my dear?" His red eyes focused on the Death Horsewoman, who was still quietly scavenging in their wake. Everyone else had introduced themselves, and he was now curious about her and her silence. Perhaps she was unfamiliar with crowds? He didn't get too much of a chance to dwell on it however, as someone new arrived on the scene.
"Ah! Another one." Conquest, probably. He just radiated with their culture, right down to his ridiculously unnecessary clothing. Then again, layers were also Sal's friend, and he had to be a little jealous at the heavy looking fabrics; he was feeling the chill of this climate. Not only the male though, a female seemed to be following close behind! Interesting. Ever-polite, Sal bowed his head to the unfamiliar pair from Conquest "Welcome to the scavenging party, ah...?" Hopefully, the other tall man (finally, someone he can see eye-to-eye with!) and the woman would catch the hint and give a name. Now that their little group was majority Conquest, he decided now would be a good time to get a chance to observe them from a distance; he never did spend much time on their Isle, so this was a good opportunity.
Or it would have been, had his fingers not stuck together with very sticky tree sap, giving him something else to focus on and collect at the time.

Her mood was decent for now as she let Mengyao pat her on the head though her expressioned darkened as the beginning of a metaphorical thundercloud appeared over her head as she stared up at Mengyao, "Of course I'd be here, Idiot Cousin," she said to him firmly, though her tone was one of annoyance there was also very light affection laced underneath that tone. Secretly she was glad Mengyao and others like him survived.
Seeing Lifen she brightened considerably, at her question she nodded, "Anything will be helpful, we will find uses for all things," she said simply. Yuzhi was trying to be optimistic and cheerful all things considered.
At Sal's words she blushed slightly but she did brighten much more in his regard as she offered him a proud grin, "Of course, I would be honored to trade stories with you one day soon," she said in a tone that was warm toward him now versus the rather brisk tone she was having with him earlier.
Yuzhi watched her brother for a long moment with her brow furrowed a bit. Oh Brother...
Her search turned up some Minipet bones causing her to frown once more she put that with her pile of things at the base of the tree she found. The little horseman did say they would find use for all things. The crackle of leaves under her feet had Lan scowling. It was not the noise, but the simple fact she did not enjoy the fact everything was so 'untidy'. They were horsemen, and only famine and war were untidy but even they had a method to their lands. Here in halloween no one tended the trees or shaped the plants. No one really did much in terms of beautification. She didn't like it, like being reminded with every single last detail that this was not home. This was not where she had been born and where she had belonged. Pulling a makini from her robes she set it on the ground. No need for her to dirty her own hands by digging in muck or the emperor only knew what else. No, she'd let her pet find the supplies. Lan would carry, it was a rather simple plan, but, it was satisfactory. Looking around at the other clans members she paused as she saw a few of her own and then, others. One in Particular- " Mengyao do not tease. There is work to be done. Though you're not one I would think to want to be out here. You seem more the architect type." A small nudge against her leg and she looked to the makini as it ran to an oozing tree, sap running thick down it's side "Er I'll get it later." Lan sighed. "Makini while beautiful are not exactly ideal for this sort of work."

"Just Tseng is fine! And hm.. I bet I could carry a good deal more," he grinned in response to Sal. He actually wasn't completely certain but he was going to try his hardest to carry everything he could. He would find a way. If anything, it was good training for himself. Carefully, he walked on over towards some of the shrubbery to see if there was anything useful there. Nope. Nothing here. Hearing another voice come into the vicinity, Tseng turned to see a second noble come into view. She didn't seem to be particularly happy to be out here though. Walking towards one of the trees, he spotted a bit of moss that appeared to be pretty dry. That might be flammable too. Shrugging, he stuffed that into his satchel as well. "Brilliant! It's a date then, Little Yuzhi." Sal chuckled, clapping his stained hands in front of his equally stained scarf-wrap. A chat with a scholar, how exciting! His mirth melted away for a moment as he realized the area was becoming overrun with fine clothed Horsepersons. Being overrun with Conquest was well and good, but deep down he wished more of his own Clan would arrive soon; it was just him and Fai so far, and Fai was on a rampage for material elsewhere.
"Perhaps not, my dear." Sal smiled at the Conquest Noble he didn't know - Lan - and her minipet. "But, at least it's giving the ol' college try, so to speak. There is something much more satisfying about doing the work with your own two hands~" The Sage smiled cheerfully, not an ounce of malice in his simple opinion. He liked getting dirty; you had to get sometimes get dirty to get results, and there really was nothing like building something with your bare hands.
Even if it did backfire on you sometimes.
"It's refreshing to see someone so eager." He was taking a liking to the loud one - Tseng - who had become less loud and more focused; also a good thing. A very good thing. "Don't you think?" He inquired of the others, not looking at any one Horseman in particular. A tickle hit his throat and he made a noise to attempt to scratch it before it could worsen, but as he leaned down to strip some loose but thick tree bark, the tickle turned into an outright need, and he began to cough. It didn't take long for it to worsen into a near bark, his thin frame wracking with each hard cough; eventually he had to sink to a knee, bracing himself with one hand on the tree he was stripping, the other pressing tightly against his mouth.

"A pleasure, as always, little puppy," said Mengyao, with a smirk, nodding towards Tseng, standing a short distance away from his sister. He could almost see the thundercloud over Yuzhi's head. Oh, this was priceless. His little source of entertainment in the middle of a forest while picking up sticks.
Mengyao could not have been more pleased - at least, not until he heard a quiet, familiar voice somewhere from behind him. Relief - pure, relief - flooded through his veins, making some of the tension in his shoulders ease, but Mengyao held onto his composure well.
He had heard she had survived, but he had not seen her until now - at least, nothing other than brief glimpses of her from afar. Hiding his emotions behind a serene smile, Mengyao tucked his hands into his sleeves and turned slowly, eyes falling on the small, dark haired form of his best friend.
"Anything that you do helps," said Mengyao lightly. He resisted the very strong urge to hug Lifen, and instead took a quiet, subtle step towards her.
Someone spoke from his left, and Mengyao turned, extracting one hand from his sleeve to idly waft his fan at his cheek, forgetting about the fact that his hands were tinged grey at the fingers, seeping upwards into his palms. He gave the clothing wrapped horseman a nod, and then supplied "Mengyao" to the end of the unfinished sentence, the serene smile back into place.
"And I do not tease, dearest Lan," Mengyao added, turning his face towards his other friend, obviously pleased to see her as well. "My darling, you wound me."
He did not have any particular desire to work any longer, so he followed Lan's example and let Hao do the work instead, the small, white creature dragging back several thick branches to where his master stood.
Meanwhile Mengyao was content to stand around, idly fanning himself as though completely bored with the situation. Mengyao's Scant Inventory x1 pine needles x1 thick branches

A small glower was directed at Mengyao, "Certainly you came here to be of use to everyone, right?" Please let him say he was here to work just as hard as she and her Brother w--Nope. She watched in disappointment as a minipet was called upon to do some work. Disappointment. She felt it.
Turning her attention back to Sal she still felt a twinge of annoyance at the word 'little' but she said nothing, "I will be delighted, perhaps after scavenging we can arrange a moment, hm?" Yuzhi said happily. When Sal observed Tseng's working habits she felt pride overtake her disappointment in her Cousin as she spoke up "My brother Tseng has always been a hard worker. I am very happy to call him my Brother."
"Mother and Father instilled in us the importance of working hard so that we may keep what we earn," She said as she peered around on the ground a bit more only to find yet more bones she plucked them up and put them with the pile as well. Tseng decided it was time to switch the shoulder he had the rocks sort of resting on. And so he slid them down to his arm before tossing them up a bit to catch on his other side. That actually hadn't been a very good idea and he winced as the rocks landed on his other shoulder. Well. He managed to not drop them at least. Hearing both Sal and Yuyu, he glanced up and grinned brightly at them both. "It's always been a pleasure of mine. Oh and if anyone needs help just let me know!" he said, puffing up with pride as his sister's compliment. The latter comment seemed to be aimed at the female noble in the area. Less so than to Mengyao. Finding another patch of loose bark, he ripped it off of the tree, managing to get another decent strip. This would do quite nicely. If anything, the makini was doing well on it's own, picking up this and that before looking for other things. Lan was only half keeping her eye on it. The member of famine that addressed her got a small bow. "It is quite different than what I am accustomed to. Though now..." Her voice trailed off before she shook her head. "My apologies, it's still a bit of a shock really. I am Lan, and it is a pleasure to meet you, even under such strange circumstances." A smirk on her lips, she noticed he, even when there was work to be done, carried his air of boredom. "I beg to differ Mengyao, though, if I wound you I am sure you can keep working." As his minipet brought him things, she felt a bump against her leg. Lovely, the makini had gathered Bones from dead minipets. How lovely. Waving her hand she motioned for it to start a pile. She'd pick it all up later. Looking at the shorter girl, Lan smiled. "You are an artisan then? Do you think you will be able to help us get back that which is lost?" It was not condescending but a genuine curiosity. "While shelter and such comes first, the arts are far to important to be set aside." Quote: Sticky tree sap x1 Bones from dead minipetsx1
