Jerry seemed to be losing it and so he stood up, leaving Sasha and Jerry together on the cot. He wasn't too dense when he'd seen them together. Jerry seemed calmer and happier so long as Candace didn't come around and get him jumpy. They'd spent weeks travelling and moving and fighting horsemen. They'd all been bunking here for a while. You'd have to be an idiot not to notice them doing their music thing and keeping each other together if they could. Everyone was living in extenuating circumstances so it's not like he blamed them for being a bit nuts. He wasn't all together himself.

"Yeah well no one else is going to. Their name isn't on here. It's some clue in all the weird stuff everyone has been looking up. Computer codes and anonymous text messages. Let's just go find someone to ask. Jerry said the labs right? SO Clarice? ..... Dr. H is probably the oldest person I've seen here.." He gritted his teeth.

He was not a Dr. H fan.

"They're all b-busy," Jerry wobbled upright again, drawing in a deep breath through his nose and out his mouth. Just stay calm, he'll be fine. This was nothing to panic over. "Woo-with... with everything going on topside, I'm sure the last thing any of them want is us prying them with questions about... about something so obtuse."

He hadn't seen Dr. H around. Good riddance. The idea that he might know something devious without saying a word did not shock him, though.

Sasha's eyes widened at the mention of the doctor, a bright smile spreading over her face. Why hadn't she thought to try and contact the doctor? She wasn't even sure if he was around, but if he was, surely he'd be able to answer any questions they might have about the piece of paper that had been uncovered.

Breeding program. That left an incredibly bitter taste in her mouth.

"That's a great i-idea, Bix. I doubt he's .. I mean, this was - is - obviously important or something. I doubt he's too busy to help." She shot Jerry a look. It was a mixture of sympathy and determination, but she didn't quite pick up on any negativity coming from Bix, which was probably a good thing. "How do you think… I mean. I bet um. I could maybe text him? Right now? What should I say?" Sasha was already moving to her feet, fumbling for her phone.

Yes, the doctor would have a pefectly reasonable explanation for all of this. He'd be able to clear this all up, and they would all be able to just… pretend it'd never happened. That's what Sasha needed to hear. It was all a mistake. Just a simple clerical error.

Maybe if she kept repeating it to herself, she'd actually start to believe it.

Bix didn't know anything about Dr. H or his whereabouts. He had a natural aversion to the Division Leader after what he'd experienced during his island trial. Sasha seemed to like him, judging by her smile, and had a direct line. Bix wouldn't bother asking about it. She'd probably heard enough from other people.

"Tell him you want to ask him something? It's important?" Usually if someone gave a damn about someone else, that was enough to get results.

Bix glanced at Jerry and was finding it hard not to worry about the other man. He seemed ready to snap at any moment.

"I... I... I d-don't think I can talk to the doctor-octor-octor right now." Or ever. His face had paled as he glanced up between Sasha and Bix, his mouth suddenly moving gently to some inner thought.

With a snort he shook his head, suddenly lurching to his feet to nervously pace, "He probably knows. I bet he know-ows. Every-evry-evry-evrything. That b*****d WOULD know."

Sasha clutched the stained and tattered scrap of paper in one hand, pushing off the cot with the other. She understood that there were bad feelings between Jerry and the doctor. She understood that this wasn't something that was easy for Jerry and probably even Bix, and she understood that the doctor was probably the last person that Jerry wanted to talk to. Sasha understood all that. But this.. this was something more important. To Sasha, at least.

"He.. he isn't a b*****d, Jerry, okay?" Her voice had taken on a chilly tone, one that she couldn't keep at bay. "Can't you.. can't you put all your issues with him aside for j-ju-just like.. s-sh-s**t, I don't know, long enough for us to figure this out?! Long enough for us t-to talk to the doctor a-about this?"

Sasha was trembling now, like a leaf caught in a slight breeze; all color was drained from her face as she forced herself to take a seat on the cot again. Honestly, she felt like she was going to pass out.

"Please?"

Jerry flinched as Sasha cursed, but his tremble had turned into one of frustrated rage, "P-put my issues aside? How.. how could we trust anything he says? How do we know he's not lying-ying-ying?" Not that the doctor had ever lied to him... in fact he had been... upsettingly direct about matters. More honest than Candace had been. Even so, putting the man in that position again, of knowing something he didn't, and no doubt lording it over them... Talking in riddles in that condescending way...

He gave a frustrated noise, limping stiffly as he paced, "Woo-woo-what if... what if we... what if every-every-everyone was some sort of... experiment or... j-just.... s-stalked from birth. They've been... shuffling old paperwork for ages now, those old records are probably long-ong-ong gone and so what, so what. We know what we know and M-maybe I'm happier not knowing who made me!" He snapped, and instantly regretted it.

He did want to know. But he didn't want to hear it from H.

He ran his hand through his hair as he paced and thought.

"M-maybe... maybe... maybe we sh-should ask him. One last thing he can hold over me if he does know. I'm n-not afraid of him," He added quickly.

Sasha just wanted to scream. She really did. She could go on and on about how the doctor had never been anything but nice to her but Sasha had the feeling it would all fall on deaf ears. Honestly, she almost felt like she needed a reassuring little pat on the head at this point in time. Even if the truth wasn't something she wanted to hear, having it come from the doctor… at least she could count on him for the truth.

"In.. In Antarctica, t-the doctor told me that he would never lie to me. A-and I trust him, okay? H-he would be the f-first to admit that he's d-done terrible things," Sasha gave Jerry a compassionate, albeit strained, look. Sasha hadn't asked the doctor outright if he'd slept with Candace, but Sasha hadn't had the nerve to ask him. Honestly it wasn't any of her business - and truthfully, this life-shattering piece of paper in her hand was more important to Sasha, "but I b-believe that if he knows - if he can tell us what is going on - he will, okay?"

Maybe her mother had been a hunter. Maybe that was the simple answer to a complex question. Her mother had been a hunter. That made sense. It was a dangerous thing, but… what kind of mother would leave their child, would risk death? As far as Sasha knew, she had no living family left - and maybe this paper meant that she did. Maybe there was someone out there that was family.

Sasha's head ached from all the insistant questions that demanded answers. Just when things had gotten a little more tolerable, just when she'd started to feel that little bit bolder and stronger, the carefully constructed foundations of her confidence were quickly being swept away by the list she clutched so tightly that her fingers were cold and her knuckles were pale.

"S-so. I… I'm going t-t-to text the d-doctor. He probably w-won't even answer. But … if he does, y-you guys," she bit her lip so hard that teeth marks were visible when she spoke next. Stupid stutter. Stupid.

"You. Guys. You don't h-have to come. I.. I mean. Honestly… if y-you want to go o-on without knowing, that's up to you. But.. like. I never knew… anyone but my papa gr-growing up. And this?" Sasha held the paper aloft, "This stupid piece of paper means something t-to me."

"You don't have to go if you don't want Jerry." Bix had just stood there, a severe expression on his face but it wasn't directed at either one of his fellow hunters. He seemed to be staring off into space.

"I'm going to ask him. If he texts her back I am going and I want to ask him to his face." Bix took a deep breath. "Dr. H is a s**t. He made me kill people with my bare hands.. made me choose myself over friends.. Before died for me then because of his stupid ******** pendants and his experiments." Yeah they may have been golems but it had been so real. The psychological impact never left him. "But I've never seen him deny any of it. It's not some personal vendetta against you Jerry, he's just a horrible person." he paused. "Thinking it's personal.. that he's out to get you.. probably just amuses him. I get it if you can't. I was never very good with bullies." Bix frowned. "So if you can't go I promise I'll come back and tell you everything he says."

Bix let out a long breath. "Sorry Sasha. I'm glad he's nice to you. I really am. But he's just not to most people. I'll go with you though and I promise I'll try to stay calm."

Jerry's face was trembling again as he glanced from Bix to Sasha before back to the floor, sitting on a cot heavily with his face in his hands, "I'll g-go," He said softly, half whining, half whispering. "I'll... I'll g-go."

Bix didn't need to know why he hated the Doctor so much. It was bad enough Sasha sort of knew.

Sasha didn't speak as she fumbled with her phone. It took her a long moment before she decided what to type. It wasn't exactly an emergency, really, but... chewing on her lower lip, Sasha quickly tapped out a short message.

lizbot
Text to Doctor H:
I need to talk to you. Bix & Jerry too. It's important.

She hit the send button before she lost all of her nerve.
PostPosted: Thu May 03, 2012 10:20 am

Bix held his breath while she typed it out and sent it.

And then waited for another couple moment.

Silence.

The albino hunter shuffled and uncrossed his arms. "I'm going to get a bottle of water.. you guys want water? I'll get us ALL water."

He stepped away for a moment and hoped that in seconds it took to fetch the water that there would be a texted answer.

Jerry didn't want water. He wanted a knife, maybe. Or six feet of rope. That would do it, yeah. His brain was spinning to the point it had crossed into that numb area that bordered dissociation while he still remained at home, mentally.

"I d-didn't know either of them. My... my p-parents. J-just.. my m-mother's p-parents. My Gran and Grampa." He finally whispered, "I d-don't like... the p-possibility H knows their n-names and... and I d-don't."
PostPosted: Thu May 03, 2012 11:04 am

Sasha slumped onto the cot across from the one Jerry sat on, still clutching that piece of paper in her hands. She traced the 'S' of her name over and over again; teetering on the edge of tears and laughter was a strange place to be.

Sasha was also growing increasingly agitated by all of the foul things Bix and Jerry were saying about the doctor. Very, very agitated.

"Just stop, okay?" She narrowed her eyes, face pinched as she bit back the words she really wanted to say. Sasha didn't want to harbor any sort of regrets, but emotions were running high and it was so incredibly difficult for her not to snap. If she were a neutral party in all of this, she'd be sitting next to Jerry, rubbing his back or offering to sing to him. Anything to calm his nerves... but at this point, Sasha was in no position to do any of that. This was a life-altering complication right now; and in truth, all Sasha could think about was how Candace was just as guilty as the doctor was, and that maybe Jerry should blame her a little more, and blame the doctor a little less. It didn't make sense to feel this way; she'd spent a lot of time trying to get Jerry to the point where he could at least talk to Candace, but...

"Just.. I c-can't. I can't d-deal with it right now, Jerry." Her voice trembled; Sasha's composure at this juncture was a thin thread, and it was already pulled taut, ready to snap.

Bix returned with 3 bottles of water and tossed one on the bed next to Jerry. He seated himself on the opposite bunk, sharing with Sasha but not too close. Both of the other hunters looked about to snap and even though Bix was shocked, angry even, he felt sane in comparison.

Thankfully the young man knew nothing of Jerry's issues with H. He assumed the man was disliked all around just because of how he was, how he treated them, and his behaviors of the past. He was blissfully unaware of Candace and H.. or any of those dramatics.

Bix now awkwardly sat and suckled the mouth of his bottle, eyes darting between the other two. His mouth made a 'pop' when he released it from the bottle. "Can I see the paper again?"
