Tess' face was the quintessential image of innocence, eyes locked with the dragon boil's, her arms folding behind her in supposed shyness. "Wellllll..." she began nervously, still under that pretense of proprietary despite having seen the glint of mischief in Sheridan's eyes. Again, Tess' body language suggested uncertainty and concern, but she flashed white fangs and a quick flicker of a straw-like tongue. Then with one silent beat of large, leathery wings, she was careening past Sheridan towards the Maul.
"Let's put it to the test!" she giggled aloud.

Oh-ho, so that's how it was, alright then! "You're on!" A beat of his wings, a lash of his tail, and was off in a flash! It was exhilarating, sailing through the night air, circling through the sky with all the speed his student form would allow. He may have been swifter than expected, quickly catching up to the ghoul, propelled forward by lashing of his tail, moving through the air as a fish moved through water. "Is that really the fastest you can fly?" His tone was light-hearted, teasing, egging her on. It was clear he was enjoying himself, having fun with the game.

The closer Sheridan came, the softer the sound of Tess' wings beat. But that was an effect of her kind's ability and it had nothing to do with just how fast the legless ghoul could move through the air.
"Perhaps, perhaps not," she smiled sweetly, her expression suddenly determined as she kept her lead on the boil.

"Well then, let's find out." A light-hearted chuckle, a smirk, wait, was there plotting in that smirk? Too late to wonder that now! It happened in an instant, his pin removed and quickly placed in his pocket barely before he shifted into his natural form, his long serpentine body suddenly reaching over 30 feet in length. Though larger than his student form, his natural form was far swifter, sailing through the air as he was truly meant to. A sudden burst of speed and he had passed her, his path carrying him skyward, moving into an impressive climb. She may have passed him again as he circled, before turning into a powerful dive. Limbs tucked at his side, wings folded back, gravity and momentum took over, propelling him to far a greater speed than straight flight alone would have. Let see her catch him now!

The sharp displacement of air as Sheridan zoomed past sent strands of her long hair whipping against her face. Tess had to admit she never expected the boil would use his natural form to his advantage, but she decided she wouldn't let that happen again. It didn't look like she would be able to catch up to the boil, but she was going to try!
Perhaps Sheridan might notice how the loud beating of leathery wings gradually tapered off into silence. Perhaps he wouldn't, but the winged ghoul hoped their arrival at the Maul wouldn't be considered too much of a spectacle.

Hey, no one had said no natural forms in this contest! He wasn't slowing down, no matter how near or far he may have thought she was behind him, he wasn't slowing. Not even when the maul came into view and a dive toward the square sent the ground racing toward him. Wings spread, talons reached for the ground and--silence. What anyone watching may have expected to be a thud and a crash of talons against stone, was in fact a silent landing, the only sound the click of talons against the stone ground as he took a step forward. And then he had shifted back to his student form, his pin returned to the earring that normally held it. A grin, the dragon turned to wait for Tess, expecting her to be close behind.

The ghoul would have arrived sooner had she not been preoccupied with the notion that her entrance should be as inconspicuous as possible. Grand arrivals were not something she was particularly fond of, unless it involved being with her parents, in which case she was merely along for the ride. Eventually she arrived, looking as if she was never in any race, and by that she had her arms behind her back and feigning surprise to find Sheridan was already there. "You certainly don't keep a ghoul waiting," she teasingly remarked. "Have you worked up an appetite?"

He smiled, hands folded behind his head for a moment as he stepped toward her. It seemed he was completely unfazed by either the flight or whatever spectacle he may have caused with his landing. Any eyes that turned on him were ignored, though it was perhaps more likely he was only given a few raised brows and quick glances, that was if anyone even cared at all. "A bit, you?" His tail twitched, he was a bit hungry now that he thought about it and he imagined she must have been as well. Either way, the bounce in his step clearly showed his good mood. It was a lovely night and he enjoyed Tess' company. The earlier events in the gym were long since forgotten.

The ghoul nodded, beaming at the boil and feeling very pleased with the turn of events. Sheridan didn't seem upset or miffed at the impromptu race and its results, he did win after all but still, Tess' behavior hadn't exactly been very sporting. She began to lead the dragon towards the restaurant she'd mentioned, it wasn't a particularly popular choice with students on a budget but Tess' family could afford having her dine there without batting an eye.
"Famished, actually," she answered honestly. "Wasn't expecting such a brisk flight."

Sheridan followed, tufted tail flicking back and forth with his steps. He had never been in the particular restaurant she seemed to be leading him toward, more often simply visiting the local fish market and devouring the fish he bought raw. Well, if he'd thought about it that probably wasn't the best meal for a first date. "Then I guess we should head inside and eat." The scents emanating from the restaurant were making him realize just how hungry he really was. Hmm, he hoped they had fish, or poultry. Ah, he was suddenly in the mood for a delicious feathered food.

As they entered the establishment, a trolley bearing the head server's head rolled towards the couple. Said head seemed to recognize the winged ghoul and for a brief moment, his brow twitched as if wanting to quirk in amusement at the sight. Professionalism, however, smoothed out the wrinkle before it even appeared and instead a brilliant smile greeted undead and monster. "Your usual table?" the server asked.
"Yes please," Tess smiled in response, before turning to Sheridan, "Do you have any food aversions, Sheridan?" she inquired with a tilt of her head as the trolley rolled forward to lead them to their table.

Sheridan had certainly never been in this restaurant before, his gaze moving between various points of interest, taking in his surroundings. Hmmm, though he was unfamiliar with the restaurant, it seemed Tess had been there several times, or at least enough that the staff recognized her. His tail twitched as he followed toward the table, still glancing around the surroundings, though not so much that he lost track of where he was or where he was going. "I'd rather not eat things with fur, but otherwise no." Furry things, whether they still had fur or no, those he did not eat, ever, not unless he had no other choice in the matter. He did not like the taste, he did not like the texture, and they had FUR. He had fur, he did not want to eat things that had fur! Scales and feathers however, those were perfectly fine, quite delicious for that matter.

The ghoul pursed her lips as she contemplated on this. She herself never really ate food given that she was a vampire but she supposed the texture must be an inconvenience. "I can't eat anything that has been seasoned too strongly." Certain spices simply disagreed with the ghoul mostly likely due to her specie.
They arrived at the designated table, the backrest of the chairs oddly shaped in order to accommodate guests with wings. The head server bobbed on the trolley to face the dragon boil, "Our kitchens skin the ingredients before they're served as a standard. But if that is the case, may I suggest sautee'd phish fillet?"Amon Larethian I assume minipets are also considered livestock in certain parts of Halloween

"I do enjoy seasonings, though I suppose it depends on how they're used." He smiled at Tess, making a note of said preference. He was quite fond of many seasonings, including those of the spicy variety, but he rather often simply cleaned and ate his food raw. A thoughtful tilt of his head as he settled into his seat, wings folded back comfortably, his tail curled around the chair, doing his best to keep it close to him lest it be stepped on by anyone passing by. Fish did sound delicious, he liked fish. "I was actually more in the mood for poultry tonight." Not that he wasn't still considering the fish! But as much as he enjoyed fish, tonight seemed like a good night to try something different, something he hadn't eaten so often over the past few days.

The head waiter nodded in understanding, "Then perhaps you would prefer stuffed Roadsweeper with poison berry jelly. And for the ghoul, would you care for your usual?"
"Hmmm, no, I'd like to try the puree of sheepish veal," she gave Sheridan a questioning look, hoping that he wouldn't mind if she had something furry. Er, wooly, er... she hoped he didn't object. It would make her less inclined to ask him what she had in mind.
