Jett grinned, pleased from her enthusiasm with both his offer and the burger. He found himself comparing her to Raven again, wishing his girlfriend would be so easy to convince to take a few boxing lessons, spar with him—or hell, just eat a burger. Which, this place had many.
“Depends on what you like. Bacon burger’s pretty good. They make them nice, big and juicy. Steakburger’s good. Or you could just get a classic cheeseburger. My favorite,” he said with a little shrug; for as expensive as Jett’s taste could be, he didn’t need his burger all dolled up for him to enjoy it. All it took was a good piece of meat, medium rare, a slice of cheese—American, obviously—and some toasted buns. Tomato, lettuce, onions, pickles, ketchup, mustard—all delicious, but not entirely necessary.
The line was moving quickly, though there was still plenty of time to pick out a meal. Had this not already been a favorite of Jett’s, he might have spent a fair amount of time perusing the menu on display, or snagged one of the printed menus, for those people that insisted on making fast food a dine-in experience.

She considered her options, but her mind kept falling back to the same thing. Bacon. Gwen loved bacon. Not as much as steak, but pretty darn close, so she immediately knew what she wanted. They were one, maybe two customers in line away from the cashier when she pulled out her purse, and she pulled out a twenty from her wallet, certain that it'd be more than enough to cover the both of them. She asked, just as the customer ahead of her was giving his order. "So, I'm getting the bacon burger; what do you want? Remember, my treat!" The way she said it meant that there was to be no argument on the matter, and the glint in her golden eyes was almost mischevious in nature. Once they got their meal, they could further discuss his offer, and while she knew it would be sacrificing time away from her homework and video games, she needed the chance to improve herself as a Senshi. And Jett would be the first step in getting back at Sailor Remarque... she owed him a good right hook to the jaw, after all.

Jett was already dreaming about his classic burger when Gwen asked, though when she insisted it was her treat…well, how could he argue? Jett wasn’t necessarily the most chivalrous man, so it wasn’t a gender issue with letting her pay. He didn’t like being in someone’s debt, though with the way Gwen was presenting this…she was the one that felt she owed him a debt, wasn’t she?
He was tempted to argue, but that look? That tone?
Jett knew how to pick his battles, and this wasn’t one he wanted to get into. And—well, hell, if he was getting a free meal out of this, he really didn’t have that much he could complain about. “Well, if you insist, then let me get what you’re getting,” he said, flashing her one of his more flirtatious smiles. He had a fair share of time before he had to go back to work, so he wasn’t exceptionally paranoid with what time it was.
Still, it was habit for him to check his watch frequently; he loved his job as much as anyone could, and despite knowing he could get away with it, he wasn’t the sort to ever arrive late. He lifted his arm, observed the time from the rather pricey looking watch on his wrist, and then lowered his arm to his side again, quite content that he had enough time to just sit down and enjoy a good meal—and some good company.

He had made his decision just in the knick of time, as no sooner did Gwen turn around did the customer ahead of her step aside, allowing for Gwen to look at the hard working cashier and startle her with an almost over enthusiastic smile. "May I have two bacon burgers, please?" The cashier pressed a few buttons in the register and told Gwen her total, though she hardly paid attention to it as she had already handed her the twenty before she had the time to put the order in. Her mind wasn't on the order or even the change she received back, but on the thought of taking valuable lessons from Jett. She didn't want to feel as though she were using him, but she knew she couldn't tell him the truth behind her need for the lesson. Not that fights at St. Mag's was a lie, though. Surely she'd benefit from the lessons from that as well, as one good left hook to the bully's face would send a message to the rest of them, and that message would ring 'Don't mess with this gal.' "Shouldn't be too long, right?" She called back to Jett, noticing that he looked at his watch and now a little worried. "I don't want you to be late..."

Jett scoffed. “No, I won’t be late,” he said, rolling his sleeve back down over his watch. “Habit. I’m used to coming to this place alone, so a time check is good to keep me in line. I like being prompt. Thanks,” he said, nodding towards the cashier. Things seemed to be moving quickly in back, and though he felt the urge to check his watch again, he refrained and managed to push his hand into a pocket.
“Anyway, don’t worry. Even if I was late, it’d all work out. Why, you really that concerned about me?” he asked, cracking a smile in Gwen’s direction.
Gwen certainly had a bit of a bite to her personality—he recalled her reacting to the thief when he’d first met her—though he’d seen her soft side before, particularly around Micah. Which was more than he could say for the other girls he tended to hang around. His own Micah was a powerful presence, always pushing herself harder and bouncing around. Camilla might have been polite, but she was certainly blunt with everything. Even Raven could be a bit clipped when showing emotion, and might not have noticed anything was even just slightly amiss.

"Of course I am! I just don't want you to get fired, but seeing as they were okay with you allowing rainchecks, then maybe I'm worrying for nothing?" Gwen placed her cash back into her wallet, not bothering to count what she got back or separate the coins from the paper as it was too much of a hassle. She was far too hungry to care about such trivial matters right now and she spoke over the sound of her stomach growling. "Maddy tells me that I need to be more considerate towards others and their schedules, so I figured I'd give that lesson a start with someone whom I like and care about." Sure, she could have started to take Maddy's busy schedule and obligations into consideration, but that was impossible. She still hadn't forgiven her for embarrassing her that day, but it did give her another excuse to visit Jett, so Gwen was willing to let it go for now. She turned around, looking into the kitchen and eager to see if their burgers were ready. That was the problem with places that made food to order; the food quality was always topknotched, but it was the waiting that always did her in. "So, we going to eat here, or the park?" She asked, looking back at Jett to get her mind off of the food. An impossible task, if one knew her eating habits...

Though Jett’s eyes had been following the workers in the back as they hastened to prepare orders as quickly as possible, he glanced at Gwen for a second, grinned, and then returned his gaze to the burgers being prepared. “Well now, I think we can do just about anything you want. Here, there. Whatever makes you happiest. I’d be far from a gentleman if I went about bossing you around. Pros to here are, tables, don’t have to walk anywhere else, and you can keep your eyes open and see if there’s something else you’d like to try if you come back here. Cons are noise and commotion. Pros for the park are fresh air, some sun, cons are the walk and the temperature. –You look like you’re afraid they’re going to run out the back door with your burger,” he noted, eyes drifting back to her face again.
Bumping elbows with her, obviously in a playful manner, he insisted, “Relax. Looks like they’re almost done, anyway. If this place is making you high strung, we can eat at the park. Unless that looks is just because you’re desperate to sink your teeth into that burger, in which case we should probably just head on over to that table over there,” he said, nodding towards an empty, freshly cleaned table somewhat out of the way.

'I'm not coming off as paranoid, am I?' Gwen thought to herself at his obvious teasing, and she was able to think of a decent comeback. "Well, if they DO try to make off with my burger, then they'll be in for a beating, because this time there's no twisted ankle to slow me down!" She curled her fist and smacked it into her fist, more for playful show than actual seriousness, and before those around her could either notice her actions or take her too seriously. She glanced at the table that he motioned at, but the prospect of eating in the park interested her more. "It's a nice day outside, and it's probably less crowded than here. That way we could talk and I wouldn't have to yell." Gwen didn't mind the heat; where she came from, it had gotten much warmer, more humid, so Destiny City's heat was nothing more than a mild nuisance. "You okay with that?"

Jett partially supposed that Gwen would not really have an issue yelling, though she had a good point—it was a nice day outside, and Jett really didn’t want to deal with all this bustling about. Besides, he was just going to go back to a stuffy old room when he was done here; he might as well enjoy the sun while it was up.
“Sounds good to me. Though I’d like to point out, twisted ankle is only good in catching them, and those guys back there—some of them look pretty big. You so sure that you could take one of them down? St. Mags or not—”
He paused, squinted his eyes, and leaned forward a bit. “Oh. Yeah, I know that guy back there, the one near the grill. Kicked his a** in a competition. Little b*****d—” he said of a man that was now far bulkier and had a good few inches on Jett “—was next to the sorest loser I ever met. Be careful with him. He’s got the meanest right hook I’ve ever met. Better hope he’s not the one that wants to run off with your burger.”

The young girl from St. Mag's looked over the guys in the back and she couldn't deny that they looked rather formidable, definitely fiercer than any of the girls and bullies she fought at St. Mag's in her few months stay in Destiny City. But this was Gwendolyn Caspian. The way that Gwen's golden eyes squinted and her lips pursed made it clear as day that she would have accepted any challenge put forth before her, but it seemed that both her and the burly cook that Jett had pointed to were spared from a possible scuffle as the sound of a bell ringing and a familiar order was yelled out. "Two bacon burgers." And just like that, Gwen's scowling face was gone, but that didn't stop her from grabbing the two burgers with almost lightning speed. She made sure to grab a few napkins and a handful of ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard before joining Jett's side again, and she was eager to get out and into the park. It was too nice of a day to waste inside! "So, off we go to the park!" Gwen said, walking outside and refraining from opening the bag to devour her bacon burger. She may have established that she was a little more rough and tumble than most girls, but she still had to pretend that she had manners. When they were outside, she gave a wink. "And don't worry, I wasn't going to pick a fight with that guy. Maybe after I've gotten some formal training, though... I might stand a chance then."

Jett simply laughed at Gwen and shook his head; again, out of habit, he glanced at his watch despite knowing he still had plenty of time. He spoke, even as he did so, at least in an attempt not to look rude. “Formal training is always a good thing to have. With your…energy, I’d fully believe that you could kick that guy’s a**. Or anyone’s for that matter. Though—I’m sure getting into trouble isn’t the sort of thing a good, well behaved girl like yourself gets into,” he noted, tilting his head and giving her another playful look. She might have gone to St. Magdalena’s Seminary, but he couldn’t see that she was the sort to need to know how to kick someone’s a**.
“…Unless you’re the sort of person who creeps out at night, lurks in dark alleyways just looking to pick fights with poor, hapless strangers who wander into your path?” he prompted. His strides, though large, were still casual, and even if he didn’t say it, he was still very eager to get out of that place, and eat that damn burger. The aroma was nearly driving his mad and he could practically feel his stomach shrinking.

The very notion that she lurked dark alleyways and stalked hapless victims was enough for Gwen to flash him a devious grin, and for a brief moment she wanted to just drop the act and chime in 'only if you're a youma or DMC', but be as it was that she was suppose to keep a secret identity, Gwen shook her head in the negative. "Absolutely not. I'm 15 and if there wasn't a curfew already then Maddy would have my head if I was out that late." Then, she gave a shrug. "And I don't usually go looking for trouble at school... most of the time, anyway." That was a more blatant lie than her not prowling the streets at night, but thankfully she didn't have anyone else to contradict her, and the growl of someone's stomach was enough to (hopefully) deflect attention away from anything that wasn't food. She asked, giving a nervous chuckle as they reached the park. "Was that your stomach or mine?"

“Yours,” Jett replied without thinking about it; he knew very well that it might have been his own. Not that he was going to acknowledge that or anything. There was a table in sight, and Jett crossed the distance between it and them so that he could flop down on one side. “Fifteen, hmm?” he prompted, mulling over her age. “—Yeah,” he said after a short moment. “When I was that age, I was getting into all sorts of trouble. And I did go looking for trouble at school. Most of the time. Not that I ever got caught,” he promised, flashing a coy smile.
He’d picked a damn high number of fights in school and out, but tact and a silver tongue had prevented him from ever getting punished for it. He’d gone to DCU with a clean slate and a sparkling record. “But, then again. I figure they watch you St. Mags girls a little closer. What did you do to get in there, anyway? I heard they get a lot of miscreants and trouble makers there.”

"Then you've heard right. Though, not everyone is all that scary, or are better at hiding their intentions than most girls," Gwen said, taking a seat on the other hand and wasting no time in reaching into the bag to grab her burger. She was careful not to touch his burger and made sure to grab a few napkins as well, making some kind of conscious effort to mind her manners now that they were in public. There were always people in the park and now was no different, and she didn't want to embarrass Jett, seeing as it was likely that there'd be people he knew hanging around. "Me, on the other hand, I don't have any real criminal record or anything big. I have a bit of a truancy problem, even back at home." She did nothing short of tearing open the wrapper and took in the wonderful around of grilled beef and bacon, DEFINITELY the bacon. It was almost toe-curling wonderful to her and she was grateful that the table would hide this reaction, as she explained. "When I moved in with my sister, St. Mag's was the closest and cheapest school I could attend, and I can just walk there instead of having to worry about a bus or Maddy driving me to and from classes. It's sort of a trade off for allowing me to stay with her for free. I couldn't afford to go to Crystal or anywhere else... so, St. Mag's it is, for now." Unable to resist anymore, Gwen took a huge bite out of her mouth watering burger, and she waited until she had chewed and swallowed before speaking up again. "But not for long. Might see about getting a scholarship, or maybe even a job, so that I can go somewhere else. Get away from the crazies and the Nuns once and for all."

Ah, truancy. Jett could relate to that; in high school, he’d been somewhat notorious for flaking out whenever he’d could. He was far from a delinquent, though he really should have gotten into more trouble. He had been blessed with good looks—his mother said he got it from his father, though Jett never wavered in resenting the man—and a silver tongue. He had a lie for every situation and was always quick to turn on the charm or blame someone else.
He had reached for the other burger after Gwen had gotten her own; she had paid, so it was only fair she get first dibs. Plucking the burger out, he unwrapped it with a skill that said he had done this many times, and even as he listened to Gwen, took his first bite.
For someone with such extravagant tastes, all it took was a burger to please him. His eyes closed as the flavor soaked his mouth and he let out a silent, pleased sigh. He enjoyed the flavor, even up until he swallowed; there were definitely a few seconds there where he’d zoned out while Gwen was talking, but he’d heard enough to be able to reply, “Nuns used to freak me out when I was a kid. Probably best that you get away. Plus--having a job is good. There are a few places in the area near the antique store that are hiring. Pet shop, next door, if that’s your cup of tea. Café across the street if you'd rather a cup of tea. God, this is a damn fine burger, Gwendolyn.” He, for as refined as Jett could be, had barely finished speaking before he took another bite.
