Name: Venetia

Why is your kat here? Why did she accept Melody's invitation?

She was curious, really.

Sure, the Flitter Kitter sang every now and then; either doing errands on a busy street, at her favorite club, or simply at home, but she never thought it was that impressive, at least until that pretty invitation reached her. So might as well give it a try, right?

Please write me a small RP blurb of your kat arriving at the audition site. To set the scene, it is just after sunset, in a theater that for all intents and purposes appears to be abandoned. Standing just inside the door is a beautiful red-haired woman in a raspberry-and-black dress, and she requests your invitation...

The pink haired female stood right in from of the appointed place. Venetia couldn't help thinking of the contrast between the beautiful paper in her hands and the state of the theater; she found it strange, but didn't dwell too much about it, thinking it was just the peculiar taste of whoever was in charge.

Shaking the thought away, she curled her hand around the doorknob; taking one more glance at the setting sun before making the way inside... and saw that it was the same as the outside! Dust, broken glass, shredded curtains and just about anything else that can also be said about an abandonded building, and it made her go back to her first though, now added with a simple question: 'What kind of person chooses this place for an audition?'

"Your invitation, Miss?"

Turning to where the voice rang, she met face-to-face with a red-haired woman, her hand held out expectantly. "O-oh, yes. I have it." Surprised at the striking image she gave, so elegant in the middle of such place, Venetia handed the invitation. The Flitter, a bit more relaxed, allowed herself to wander further inside, with the usual beat that she was known for... but not without making sure she didn't step on anything pointy.

Melody greeted each and every entrant with a smile. She took their invitations and watched, watched as they milled about. She knew every name, every face. Some she had heard in formal settings, others she had merely heard as she wandered the streets at night, making music for no one but themselves.

Every moment, she was considering. Not everyone whom she had invited would be given a chance to get up on the stage. She listened to spoken words, watched gestures, and prepared her list of auditionees. Then climbed up onto the stage, enchanted microphone in hand.

"Ladies, thank you for attending my little party. I will call up each of those who will audition for me, and I would like you to perform at your best. We can provide whatever instruments are needed, don't you worry!"

The names called might be a surprise, or they might not be.

"Mirrin!"
"Lilyana!"
"Haunt!"
"Frigga!"
"Lavender LaCross!"
"Kilakakash!"
"Carmen!"
"Venetia!"

Congratulations, auditionees!
Your next task is RP-oriented. This is an audition...audition for me! I want an idea of how your kat sounds, how she performs.
There are two pieces to this: Number one, give me a link to the song your kat is auditioning with. The singer's voice should be a good representation of how you think your girl sounds. So think hard on this, guys!
Second part is the RP portion. RP out your audition. How does your kat move, what does she do, does she look at Melody or the others or no one? All the little details!

You don't have to post in the order names are listed, of course XD

You have until 12AM EST on Saturday, 4/28/2012!

>>>>**Her voice differs from hers only slightly. Lav’s voice is just a bit softer, considering her tiny-ness.

Prompt Reply:

After wandering around and speaking to almost every Kat she saw, she sat back for a moment, already debating on what song she’d sing if she were chosen. Perhaps something a bit more up beat than she usually did? Then again, her voice wasn’t quiet suited for lighter tempos and playful lyrics. Her fluff topped tail curled behind her, winding into a curving ‘s’ as movement caught her attention. It was the Elder, climbing fluidly up the stairs to the stage. From where Lavender sat, it looked like she barely even moved. There was only the barest hint of flutter in her full skirts as she strode across the stage, lifting that enchanted microphone to her lips.

Her announcement started out rather dull, like all of them did, but it didn’t take her long to get right to the point. Actually, she didn’t beat around the bush at all. Besides a small pause--no doubt for dramatic effect--she dove right into calling names. Without noticing it, Lavy held her breath. Sure, a part of her had only come because she was curious, but a part of her truly wanted to see how she compared to the rest of the auditionees.

The first name called made her heart pound, the second made it race. The third name was almost completely drowned out by the frantic, birdlike fluttering in her chest. The fourth sent stabbing pangs of anticipation. And then the entire auditorium fell away, everyone vanished, as she heard her name. Surely, the Elder was playing tricks on her, but as she looked to her expectantly, she knew she wasn’t. Jumping up from her perch, she moved forward as quickly as possible to join the others as she finished her list. Only eight had made it into the actual auditioning part. Eight out of twelve. With a soft sigh, she wondered just how many would actually be taken in. Half? Less than half? Perhaps not even one. Or maybe only one. The only sure fire way to know was to get through this.

As the other seven finalists mulled around and tried to collect themselves, she lifted her head. The perfect song had come to her, and she was sure that the Lady in the room with them would appreciate it, considering how truthful the words rang at the moment. Giving her little body a shake and clearing her throat delicately, she clambered as best she could onto the stage. The musicians looked to her, waiting for her to inform them of what they would be playing. After quickly giving them the low down on the music, she turned. This was it… her big--well, sort of--debut. Taking a deep breath, trying not to think about how she should be kicking herself for being brave--or stupid--enough to go first, she signaled for the band to start as she did.

The song was simple enough, after all, she’d sung it to herself a million times. But this was different. Singing it here, with the band playing with her, standing on stage with lights on her was…. Well, it was a billion times more amazing than she’d ever thought it would be! Holding herself up as tall and proud as she could, she lifted her voice. It boomed and echoed around the wonderful acoustics of the auditorium and made her smile. No one would ever expect such a small creature to be so loud, or to make herself so well known with just a song, but that was what she did. Her voice shifted in pitch perfectly, even as she closed her eyes and let herself fall more deeply into the power of her song. Soon enough, she had blocked out all the Kats surrounding her, including the powerful presence of the Lady watching her, judging her. Completely wrapped up in her own world, she felt herself begin to sway with the beat, and a smile tugged at her lips.

She poured every ounce of her secret heartfelt want to be included in something that was bigger than just one person. Every smidgeon of her pride in herself for at least getting this far. But, most of all, she simply wanted to convey her sincerity and joy that she’d even gotten the invitation.

Before long, she was at the end of her tune, and she slowly let her voice drift off. Standing firmly in the center of the stage again, she peeled her eyes open, offering anyone that was looking a tiny smile. “Thank you, Miss Aulos, for this chance. I hope you enjoyed the performance.” With that, she took a step back, gave a deep curtsey, and stepped from the stage.

Now all she had to do was wait. Which was certainly going to wreak havoc on her frantic little heart as it was still fighting against her ribs, threatening to pop right out of her chest. Still, though, she kept herself outwardly calm and simply watched….

Link:Diva's Song - Blood +/ Ellen Carlson

Prompt:

For the most part Haunt sat by herself, apart from anyone. The only real greeting she had given, aside from the one to the host, was to her Valkyric sister. As it was, the other kept away from her. Haunt was fine with this. She didn't need the headaches that groups of people tend to bring about.

Black eyes watched as the hostess finally took center stage and started announcing the names of who would proceed to the next round. The female didn't look phased at all as one name was said after the other. It was a compatition. A fight. And she wouldn't let the others around her know if she was nervous or not.. Though a small grin did form on Haunt's face once the names were finished. Perfect...

She watched as the ones that were not called sulked out of the building before moving slightly closer to the remaining group. Her ears twitched as she listened to the other mull about what song they would sing. Which genre. Which artist. Haunt didn't have to mull over this long. She knew exactly what she'd sing. Her eyes flickered to the elder. She wanted to hear singing? Fine. Let the show begin.

The band blinked at her in slight surprise when she told them what her selection was. Geez. Its like they had never heard of it before. It wasn't like she was asking them to play something like.... Carmen. Hmm... Perhaps another time though.

The band started first, before she started in. The sound bouncing off the walls and creating an eerie feel. Perfect... This is just what she wanted. Haunt found herself closing her eyes. As she sang, she moved about the stage a bit. Her hands moved as well. Never staying at her sides long. One hand at her chest... Both open before her, both at her chest. It was just what she did.

She got louder as the song progressed, which made it seem like she weren't the only one singing from the sound bouncing of the walls around them. This truely was her favortite part of the song. Probably cause most found the song to be creepy, dark or eerie. Haunt had a love for these kinds of songs and sung them often.

As she finished, Haunt opened her eyes. It had occurred to her that she probably reminded everyone of those people who would dress up as viking females during some operas.. How Cliche... She was far better then any viking. Oh well. That was for another time. The black furred female looked from her captive audiance, who were all just... staring at her, to the hostess. Now it was her turn. What would she do now?

Song choice: Diabulus in Musica - Blazing a Trail

Carmen lounged against the wall as the list of auditioners was read out. She was actually almost surprised to hear her name on the list, as many of the other faes present did not seem likely to tend towards her kind of music. The invitations had implied more classical styles, after all, although if she hadn't been chosen to continue Carmen would simply have left. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, it would still have been worth checking out.

She felt a little more confident after the first fae went, hearing her choice in music. Of course, Carmen was no singer, but given the invitation, the songs she had prepared did have some vocals. Still, her primary talent was on the drums, and she was glad to see a set was on the stage. A very nice set, actually, if she was any judge.

After a rather eerie song that left her feeling a little worried - no one else seemed to be primarily an instrumentalist, if she was the only one would that put her at a disadvantage? - she decided it would be best to take her own turn. She climbed up onto the stage, and as she got a closer look at the drum set, ran a loving paw across it. Yeeees... she would love to play on an instrument like this all the time.

A little reluctantly she turned to the women who were playing accompaniment, pulling out her sheet music - and also a recording. "I realize this probably isn't what you're used to, there's a recording as well." Presumably if they were using this dilapidated theater for the auditions, there would be some sort of sound system.

As she sat down and quickly tested the drum set, making sure she was comfortable with it, she was impressed to hear an electric guitar being tuned behind her. So it would all be live? All the better.

Once she was ready, and she had gotten the okay from the backup musicians, she tapped out a quick beat on the drums and then launched into the song. Although the vocals were limited, the piece she had chosen really demonstrated her drumming skills, with large parts focused primarily on the instrumental work. She actually found herself short of breath, having to focus to remember when she needed to sing, but as the song wrapped up, she felt quite confident that she had demonstrated her drumming to the best of her abilities, even if she didn't think she was that great of a vocalist.

Evanescence || New Way to Bleed

Lilyana watched them all carefully while they waited for whatever it was they were waiting for. She was just a little surprised to hear her name called to audition, but it made her lips curve in a smile. The desire that had been awakened by the receipt of that invitation burned brighter and hotter inside her as she half watched the girls going before her. As she watched and waited, she knew the song she had brought with her was perfect.

Finally there was a lull between auditions and Lily made her way to the stage, pulling several sheets of music out for the band and handing it to the appropriate players before making her way to the microphone. While she gave the band a chance to look over the music, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Opening the green orbs again, she turned and nodded, indicating her readiness. Drumsticks were tapped together to count them all in and the music began, Lilyana supplying the beginning vocals and harmonizing against the drums and guitar.

The beginning verse had her closing her eyes again, singing as if to herself. While she sang, images floated through her mind of the things that came before this, the things that had twisted her heart and made her bleed in so many ways. For so long, she had kept her emotions inside and shown the world a nastier side of herself and yet she had never been able to speak, never been able to let go of the dreams she had once had.

Her eyes opened and she felt the heat that was in them, the anger and frustration she had tried to keep hidden nearly making them glow as she looked directly at Melody. In her eyes was the questions she had, the doubt and beneath them, the need to be someone, something else.

♪ ♫ "Is this the end of everything? Or just a new way to bleed?" ♫ ♪

For a moment her doubts took over with the second verse, and some inner voice told her she just wasn't a match for those who had gone before and those who were to come. The lyrics made her burn with a hatred of everyone who had ever hurt her, and those who would hurt her in the future. Her body took over, moving with the music and showing all the emotions that she put into her singing, everything she'd ever felt pouring out with this one song, all her hopes, her dreams, her despair and anger and frustration filling the dark auditorium with the force of it.

♪ ♫ "Is this the end of everything? Or just a new way to bleed?" ♫ ♪

Until the hook, where her voice and the music softened and she once again looked into Melody's eyes as she sang softly, a strange mix of curiousity and devastation. She was drifting...

♪ ♫ "By drifting far beyond the edge..." ♫ ♪

Yes...Drifting beyond the edge of everything in her life merely by showing up at a random invitation. By getting up onstage and belting out everything she had worked so hard to keep hidden, by taking a chance on being hurt again, on bleeding again.

The music rushed back as she called for freedom; the freedom from life, freedom from the lie she'd been living. She could feel the ground vibrating beneath her feet from the drums and bass. She wanted freedom from everything she'd ever known. She wanted a reason to believe again.

The final chorus rose in volume as the last of her emotions clamored to be heard, filling her voice and the air around her. She held out the last word as long as her breath would allow before taking another breath and falling into the last vocals that would end abruptly.

As she turned her emerald eyes to Melody, the silence deafened.

Pie Jesu

Frigga waited, pondering her choice, and then rose, moving towards the stage. She hoped her piece wasn't too religious, or an odd choice for the situation, but it was what she knew best. As she had to show her voice off to it's best advantage, she knew she needed to pick a piece that she was very good at. She gave a soft sigh, finally, thinking that if nothing else, she had done her best with her choice, and would do her best when she performed. It was all in the hands of her skill, and the judge, now.

She carefully felt her way onto it, and moved to where she guessed the center of it was. She sank into a kneeling pose, her back straight and strong to provide her the best strength of breath. She held her hands carefully in the air in front of her chest, palms up, cupped together, almost like she held a bowl. Tilting her head up, facing so that she seemed to gaze towards the sky through a window, though none was there, and she couldn't see it if where. She took 3 slow, deep breaths, steadying herself. She then took one last, deep breath, and began to sing.

When the first pure note sang out, her head lifted a little more, almost as turning towards a pure light, or something beautiful and warm. She rocked slightly as she sang, in time with the music, almost like she wished to dance, but was concerned about it, perhaps due to the fact that the floor was unfamiliar to the blind valkyrie. As she progressed, she slowly rose up, as she lead her voice through the highest notes, her hands rising, and lowering, in response to the notes that she sang. She began to move a little in time with the music, taking careful swaying steps, almost a supplication in time with her singing, but not going far for fear of the edge, and any other surprises.

As she came to the close of the song, at the final high note, she paused, her hands raised up, in front of her, but higher then her head, reaching in supplication towards the ceiling, her body tilted forwards, her feet set slightly apart. She stayed in that pose for the whole final note, before slowly sinking back to her knees, her hands coming to rest on her knees, as the echos faded in the theater. She waited silently for a moment, then taking one soft breath, she stood and gave a slight bow, saying "Thank you, very much, for the chance to audition today. Even if I am not what you are looking for, it was an honor to perform here today in this wonderful place." She made her way off the stage with caution, and settled back into the place she had been in before. Settling back to wait, she projected an air of calm, and waited.

Link to Song: Norah Jones - Come Away With Me

Prompt: Mirrin barely repressed her amused snort at their host's request to do their best. As if she had ever given less than her best when it came to music! But now that she knew she'd be singing in front of what would surely be a critical audience, she had to be smart about her audition. Rifling through one of her skirt's hidden pockets, she pulled out different rolls of sheet music and considered each. All but one allowed her to show off the vocal tricks she'd taught herself, the ones that made her singing so popular in the dance clubs she adored. But those tricks didn't prove she could sing. The last roll of music though.... now that song was audition worthy. Provided she did it right, it would show beyond a doubt that she could sing and sing well. Besides, Mirrin had an idea that their ginger haired hostess knew very well that she had other tricks up her sleeve. She'd clearly scouted them all, it would be foolish to think that she didn't know something.

Once sure of her decision, the young fluffae climbed onto the stage and handed over the sheet music to the ones who'd be playing for her. Instrumentally, it was a simple enough song. Piano, guitar and drums and Mirrin herself would be playing the guitar. Taking a seat on the provided stool, Mirrin quickly tuned the guitar and tapped her fingers lightly on the body before strumming on the strings and beginning her piece.

♪ Come away with me in the night

It was a soft, gentle song, but Mirrin knew how to project her voice without losing that delicate sound. After all, singing wasn't bellowing. And this theatre had excellent accoustics. Looking out over the assembled audience, Mirrin was careful to move her eyes, as if meeting the gaze of each faekat, just as if she was singing to them and them alone.

♫ Come away with me and we'll kiss

Sky blue eyes teared up involuntarily as she played a solo on the guitar. Not necessarily from fear or nerves. She was allowing the emotion of the music to touch her. Keeping her body still, Mirrin continued to project a gentle, sentimental peace through her voice. A soft, tender longing.

♪ So all I ask is for you to come away with me in the night

As she finished up the song, she couldn't help but feel pride in herself. She'd performed well, she knew it. And that satisfaction was enough. Whether or not she made it into this apparently exclusive girl choir didn't matter. She'd performed perfectly. Not bad for someone who looked like a reject from a Kesha video.

♫ Come away with me

Mirrin allowed her voice to fade out slowly, as if the singer was moving away. Only then did she put the guitar down and hop off the stage, grinning happily.

Song chosen: Rasmus Faber presents PLATINA JAZZ - Genesis of Aquarion

---

Venetia couldn't help but chuckle at the fact she was the last being called for auditions, but it was her own fault for not arriving sooner, right? So, the next step was to chose which song to perform. She watched in wonder at the tiny Faerider, felt her breath be taken away at both of the Valkyries' performances and found herself enjoying the rest of the performances while she mulled over her... It wasn't until she noticed the next to sing was between the Regular and her that she decided her piece. The Flitter Kitter stepped up the stage, music sheets in hand that were quickly given to the musicians.

She wasn't sure why she chose this particular song, it just... seemed right for her to do so. Even if the lyrics were not something she usually sang about, the though of doing so with her own spin made giddy in anticipation.

Once she was in front of the other audioneers and the Judge, Venetia turned to the band behind her; she wondered how they were able to change instruments so quickly, before nodding as a sing that she was ready.

With eyes closed, she let herself be swayed as the first instruments started playing. At the cue, pink eyes opened as she let the words dance away. She stood there, clasping her hands together as she kept her gaze at Melody. Venetia shot them up at that first high note; a beat later and, just like honey, she waltzed through the stage in a slow, even lazy manner. Now looking at the other contestants; first to the left, then to the right, before heading back to where she started, just in time for the chorus.

~All this time these twelve thousand years I know AISHITERU~

She sang this as she gazed back at the red-headed lady, a she was the one. Venetia, fluttered her eyes close, now feeling more in touch with the piece, she sang the rest of the chorus to the audience, then let the band continue as she moved to the side of the pianist both to enjoy their performance and to catch her breath. Tail swishing, the Flitter lost herself in the music.

Once it was nearing her cue, she moved back to the center, and closed her gaze once more. She let herself improvise at this moment, wanting to prove te others the reason she was given a chance to participate. As the song was about to end, she opened her gaze, now focusing on the ceiling as the last words escaped her lips, one arm outstretched as if to reach something.

~I want you to know since you came in my life every day, every night you give light into the darkest skies~

As the music started to fade away from the stage, Venetia bowed at her spectators before stepping down the stage. She did everything she could and enjoyed doing it. Whatever happened, she'd accept.

Link to Song: The Dragonborn Comes - Malukah

The way I see Kilakakash is that when she speaks in first-person,
she has a more serious tone, or more adult-like tone.
When she speaks in third person,
I see her with a childish tone that is quite different than the first.

Prompt Reply:

Kilakakash squeaked as her name was called, and nervously looked around at the other women who had also came to audition. As she listened to the others, she knew she would have a fierce competition, no matter how long it lasted. She waited patiently as the other's finished their auditions, then stood, smoothing her fur again in an effort to rid herself of the millions of butterflies taking over her stomach.

One by one, she climbed the steps to the stage, her heart pounding in her ears. Taking a deep breath, she settled herself in the center of the stage, looking out at the many empty seats. She closed her eyes, took another deep breath, and opened them again. Her mind easily filled the seats, though nobody else would see the occupants. Smiling beautifully, she looked up at the one occupant that mattered, which was the woman hosting this great opportunity.

"Our Hero, our Hero, claims a warrior's heart...."

Green eyes shown like dazzling emeralds in the bright lights of the stage. Soft lips sung a soft song with each corner turned up in a calm smile. Slowly, her body moved to the song, as if each word had melted into her movements. She touched her heart at the end of the line, then let her hand move slowly off of herself. The butterflies Kilakakash had felt slowly fluttered from her lips with each word, though only she could see the rainbow of wings drifting off, the nervousness that had tickled her leaving with them.

"I tell you, I tell you, the Dragonborn comes....
With a Voice wielding power of the ancient Nord art...."

Kila's eyes fell to one of the invisible occupants that only she could see, and her smile became more dazzling. Her father sat in the front row, in her mind, and silently clapped his hands, the look of a proud father shining through his misted eyes. She spun in a slow circle with the next line, and watched the butterflies fly the opposite way of what she was turning. Her father had always taught her to put her emotions into thought, and nervousness always resembled the most beautiful butterflies.

"Believe, believe, the Dragonborn comes..."

As the line ended, she completed the slow, yet elegant, circle that she spun, and finished it with a deep bow directed to the audience. Kila closed her eyes and let the last of the butterflies go free from her body with a slow breath out. She smiled before turning her eyes up to Melody. She didn't have to look around to know all of the images she created within her mind had vanished.

"I thank you for this opportunity, My Lady." Kilakakash smiled sweetly up at the hostess. She usually never used first-person speech, except for serious occasions such as this, or when she needed to get a point across to a stubborn mind. Though she never noticed the transition between first and third person, it was just something that had always been, and always will be.

Standing straight, she smiled and gave a quick bow to the rest of the small audience. She stalked off stage, a slow sway to her hips showing her confidence. She took her seat again, and waited patiently, the smile never leaving her lips.

Melody pondered each audition carefully. Oh, this was going to be a tough decision, but not all of them could possibly make it. In the end, she selected five of her auditionees. Each of them had impressed her, made her sure that they would fit in perfectly with her Daughters of Cacophony.

"Welcome to the Daughters, my darlings. I would like to speak to each of you alone, to discuss the terms of your...contract with us..."

She pointed to each in turn. Haunt, Carmen, Lilyana, Mirrin, and Venetia. The newest fledgelings in the Daughters of Cacophony.
