Vincent's paw smacked into Spinel, making him feel a bit wobbly. Lyle only grinned. "We won't let them get away with that! Psych Up!"
Spinel quickly perked up and started hooping up and down eagerly. He loved this attack! It was so clever! They'd show this overgrown puppy what they could do! His confident thoughts pumped himself up for the battle so he could continue with renewed vigor.

Alexa frowned seeing what they were doing. Alright time to change tactics. "Vincent, change it up. Burn 'em to a crisp!" She called out.
Vincent took the cue and began to spew out another Fire Blast. This time he was aiming to burn the sableye.

Spinel dashed off to one side, cackling cheekily as the attack missed him by a wide margin. He even turned to stick his tongue out at his opponent.
"Nice moves! Another Power Gem!" Lyle called encouragingly.
His pokemon quickly spun to fling more gems at his opponent.

Vincent growled at the small taunt. He wasn't fast enough to dodge the gems but was quick to attack back. His height gave him an advantage at closing distances and soon he was upon the smaller sableye. His paw shot out with another Rock Smash.

Spinel tried to dodge out of the way of this attack too, but was too slow. The paw smashed into him and knocked him aside, though he quickly got back up.
"Another Power Gem," Lyle instructed.
From nearly point blank his pokemon fired off the attack again, hoping to get in a solid hit.

Vincent really yelped in pain when hit with the next attack. Alexa winced as well and began to wonder if Vincent was going to make it. "Vincent use another Fire Blast!" She called. She would have loved to try to lower Spinel's defense or raise Vincent's attack but if she did then Spinel could use Psych Up again and she couldn't have that.

((Shouldn't your HP be 700? The last attack only did 150 damage (100 base + 50 for attack bonus). ))

Spinel had heard the yelp and taken a moment to wiggle his bum tauntingly at Vincent. He didn't turn around in time to avoid the latest blast of fire, which made him shriek in turn.
Lyle was getting rather worried. Both pokemon were looking pretty beat up by now, and it was hard to say who looked worst. It didn't seem a time to take chances. "Spinel, Faint Attack!"
His pokemon quickly faded from view, and in moments reappeared by Vincent and smacked him decisively.

(XD The dice like toying with us. And Rock Smash is a Fighting attack, which is strong against Dark types. And since once Ghost is negated, Sableye has all the normal weaknesses of Dark types, Fighting moves are super effective. I expected you knew that, and that was why you used Odor Sleuth in the first place.)

Vincent tried to dodge but it was such a quick attack that he couldn't keep track of the other pokemon. Seeing how Spinel was already in range he quickly shot out his own paw to punch him with a Rock Smash.
Alexa saw Vincent weakening. They needed to end this quickly. "Hold on Vincent! Take advantage of the distance!" She shouted out moments before Vincent attacked.

((Nope totally didn't even think of that. XP I just wanted a wider range of attacks. XD I'm using Serebii's type chart and they have a category for ghost/dark types so I've been using that only for the no damage taken I've been figuring it would just be 100 damage. I feel like an idiot now.))

Vincent's attack his Spinel hard, and he stumbled for a moment as he struggled to stay in his feet.
"You're doing great, Spinel! Just a little bit more," Lyle urged his pokemon. "Another Faint Attack!"
The Sableye gathered itself together and faded out to deliver one more attack.

Vincent was ready to dish out another attack and wasn't prepared to be hit again. The second Faint Attack did him in and he began to fall. Pulling out a pokeball, Alexa quickly recalled Vincent. "Good job boy. It was so close!" She whispered. She then looked up at the other trainer. "Good job Lyle! Maybe we'll see each other in the finals!" She called out before walking away.

Lyle was actually kind of surprised when the Arcanine fell to the ground and didn't get back up. It wasn't until he was recalled that it finally sunk in that he won. A grin spread slowly across his face. "Thanks! You too!" he called back to her as she left.
Then he was running out onto the field to joyfully scoop up his pokemon. "We did it! Great job!" he cheered, spinning the pokemon a bit before heading out to get Spinel healed. The Sableye was very tired, but just as excited. They'd had their first win together! That was sure to mean good things for the rest of the competition!
