Niji tossed his head, ignoring the swirling colors. With a bit of mischief, he dug his paw into the dirt and flung a pawfull at the Sableye's face.

When the Eevee flung sand at him, Spinel ended up with a mouthful of dirt and had to spend a few moment spitting the stuff out. he might eat rocks, but dirt didn't taste nearly as good!
Lyle had been watching the Eevee and finally decided it wasn't worth waiting on his new strategy any more. "Spinel! Psych Up!" he said.
As he finished spitting out the dirt, Spinel paused. Oh! His boy was getting clever! He'd been reading up after all! he said eagerly to the Eevee, jumping up and down as he boosted his confidence for the battle.

When Lyle saw Spinel appear to grow weaker, he just grinned again. "Another Psych Up!"
Spinel perked up and started hopping up and down again.

Spinel was smacked in the face by another Shadow Ball, but regained his balance quickly. he jeered.
Lyle only understood the taunting tone, and was glad his pokemon was so pumped up, but he could see Spinel was growing tired. "Another Rock Smash, now," he called.
Spinel sprang forward to deliver the blow.

Lyle could see this wasn't going well for Spinel, but he was out of clever ideas. He needed to study more! But he put on a brave face and said, "Rock Smash again!"
Spinel didn't bother wasting his breath on a retort and just darted forward to attack again.

The blow knocked Spinel off his feet, and it took a moment for him to stand back up.
Lyle didn't want his friend to get hurt, but he also wanted to keep trying for this Eevee if he could. "Spinel, you think you can keep on?" His Sableye nodded, so he said, "OK, Rock Smash again."
His rush forward was more of a stumble, but he still reached out to hit the wild Eevee.

Niji darted to the side, avoiding the swat. As the Sableye passed him, it revealed a vulnerable spot. Niji darted in, sharp teeth aimed at the Sableye's shoulder.

That last n** was the straw that broke the Camerupt's back. Spinel fell flat on his face and didn't move again.
It was quite obvious to Lyle that his pokemon had fainted. "Oh no, not again," he said, wilting. "I thought I had a good strategy, too." He sadly picked up his pokemon and trudged back towards the city and its Pokemon Center.

Niji tossed his head and trotted off in the other direction, tail flagged proudly. He had shown that Sableye who was boss!
