Where was this horseman he was supposed to be looking for? Sheridan's eyes narrowed, his tail twitching as he scanned the desert sands for some sign of whoever or whatever was meant to be out here. It was hot, it was bright, it was sandy, and he didn't especially appreciate the idea of being sent off on some wild goose chase.

He shook his head, growing more and more convinced that there was nothing out here--holy jack! He jumped back, once again started by the sudden appearance of a horseman. What the jack, how did they DO that?

A brow raised, he watch the horseman, eying him with curiosity and suspicion. Warily, he followed into the hole, all the while refusing to get -too- close to Ktur.

He had barely had the chance to look over the curious containers, a definite look of curiosity and intrigue in his expression. What were--argg! What was it with the famine horsemen and touching him?

He may have shot a glare at Ktur over this shoulder as he stumbled toward the indicated container. Mountains, snow, a smile crossed his face. Well, he supposed Ktur did have good taste, well, at least in the matter of terrariums.

Experiment? Really? He was a creature of science, he could do experiments.

He first picked up the terrarium, examining it from all sides, tipping it to peek at the bottom. Hmm, intriguing, most intriguing. He gave the container a gentle shake, testing if he could stir up a bit of snow.

It seemed shaking the terrarium may not have been the best idea. Uh-oh, he hoped he hadn't damaged it permanently...

Well, maybe if he--wha!! Suddenly Ktur was over his shoulder again and then taking the terrarium from his hands. Sigh, if Ktur had wanted -him- to experiment, why was he taking it back, and why was he hovering over his shoulder?!

And then the arctic terrarium had been returned to him. A brow raised, nothing had happened at all. Sheridan was starting to wonder if the horsemen really knew what he was doing after all...

Sheridan closed his eyes, concentrating, focusing his FEAR. His tail twitched, the sound of something suddenly catching his attention. He opened his eyes, peering through the glass of the terrarium.

Inside the glass, rummaging through the snow was a small furry creature that seemed to be making itself a rather cozy little home inside the terrarium. The dragon smiled, watching the creature, noting the movement of it's tail, the twitch of whiskers, the snow that it flung through the air as it dug out its tiny little burrow. Perhaps it was some kind of mouse or vole, though he was not quite certain.

And then it scurried to hide behind a rock, startled as Ktur was suddenly behind Sheridan, peering through the glass as well. He seemed exuberant at the creature's appearance, perhaps annoyingly so. Sheridan snorted, he wished the horseman would stop doing that.

A sideways glare in the horseman's attention, Sheridan turned his attention back to the terrarium, hoping to find some trace of movement that might have hinted at the furry creature he had seen before.

Alas, there was no trace of the creature, and though he saw movement it was not the type of movement he had hoped to find! What the jack, where had those come from?! He watched in disappointment, frowning as the insects appeared, a few at first, and then more, and then even more! Oh no, they were eating everything in sight, probably even the little creature from before. How did bugs even survive in the arctic anyway?

This really wasn't going well was it. He didn't know if it was the was the result of the insects, if it was something he had done, if it was because of Ktur's most recent distraction, or if it was just bad luck, but he was sure that the terrarium was looking worse and worse every moment.

He signed, there didn't seem to be much hope for this terrarium did there.

Whether out of curiosity or frustration, Sheridan tapped somewhat harshly on the glass, maybe in the hopes of finding some remnant of life hidden under the snow.

What he saw was more than he had bargained for. What the--were those gnomes? GNOMES?! Really, REALLY?! How in jack's name had -gnomes- gotten into his terrarium? What the jack were they doing? No, do not start a fire in there, leave those rocks alone, hey! Don't you dare cut down my trees!

The dragon growled as he glared through the glass, suddenly scooping up the terrarium and giving it a good shake. Get out of there!

And then Ktur was there again, poking at his terrarium, doing what Sheridan did not know. Maybe he'd been attracted by the commotion of the destructive little gnome creatures. Either way, Sheridan was really wishing he'd stop doing that, he was not helping at all!

Sheridan set the terrarium on the nearby table, muttering to himself as he turned away from the glass container. Maybe if he walked away from it for a minute something would happen, either that or it would be completely destroyed by the time he got back.

Fortunately the latter did not happen for the few minutes that passed as Sheridan walked from one side of the room to the other. However in that short time nothing interested had happened either. At least it hadn't burst in the flames or anything, he supposed that was at least something.

Now he was most decidedly ignoring the terrarium, sitting facing away from the glass with his arms crossed. Or at least he was pretending to ignore it. At that moment he was thinking of the old adage that a 'watched pot never boils', maybe if he didn't watch it something would happen.

Of course watching it from the corner of your eye didn't count as watching, nope, didn't count at all.

His attention suddenly perked, he'd heard something. He turned, catching the hint of movement, bits of snow again being flung across the arctic ground. It looked like his furry little friend was back! Or it may have been a different one, he didn't know, either way he was glad to see it there, his expression lightening as he watched it scamper from one burrow and across the snow to another.

Of course Ktur was right there again, scaring away his little creature all over again.

Sheridan watched the creature with interested, doing his best to ignore the horseman who seemed to insist on hovering over his shoulder.

The dragon took a deep breath, the twitching of his tail slow and peaceful, his expression showing concentration as he tried to focus the freezing element of his FEAR into the terrarium.

Ah, the creature who had scurried into its burrow poked its head out again. No wait, this was a different creature! There were two of them now inside the enclosed environment. The creatures investigated each other curiously, for a moment Sheridan feared what might happen if they did not get along, but his fears proved to be unwarranted as the creatures appeared friendly to each other.

Perhaps there was a hint of a smirk as he looked to Ktur. It seemed his experiment had been a success. Setting the little glass container aside, Sheridan stood from his seat, leaving the terrarium in Ktur's hands, the dragon had experimented enough for the day. Now it was best to leave the enclosure alone, maybe if they were left alone the little creatures would thrive on their own.

POISON/ ANTIDOTE CRAFTING:

The ability to make poisons and potions from few materials is considered a vital skill for the clan of famine. When resources are scarce, one must improvise and use the tools at their disposal. Or just mix things and force something to drink it, (or injection, that sometimes yields much better results). Those wishing to make a poison not only need to know what is effective and what is not, but how to cure it as well. Killing a test subject too soon is…inadvisable.

Sadly, students will not be getting to play around with the more dangerous ingredients and runes, but they will get to make a few ‘interesting’ concoctions with the various ingredients they have. Aside from making their minor poison, they must also make an antidote. Untimely, their goal is to create more than what they destroy as then they can harvest more ‘results’ at a later time.

Stage One

Students are led to a table littered with various possible materials. Rolling 3 d 10, they get 3 ingredients. If one is rolled twice, (two of the dice give the same number) they may roll again until they have 3 different ingredients.
1- Thyme (+2)
2- Mint (no bonus)
3- Mandragora root (+1)
4- Dried dragon blood (+1)
5- Human’s tears (-2)
6- Mysterious mushrooms (+1)
7- Filtered Water (-1)
8- Mysterious yellow substance of questionable origins ( -2)
9- Rune stone (+1)
10- Foxglove (+2)
Add up the points for your ‘unrefined’ solution.

Stage Two

Taking your mixture to the filtration system, a smaller version of a chemist’s set, you must roll 1 d 4 to determine how well you refined your poison.
1- Not much seems to have changed but now it’s an odd thick brown paste. (no change to your poison, UNLESS in the negatives in which it gains +1)
2- It looks… like the color changed? (+2 to your poison!)
3- The result is a glowing blue thick liquid. (+3 to your poison!)
4- You end up with a clear, if slightly tinted liquid (+4 to your poison!)
Taking your Original results from the ‘unrefined’ solution and adding the filtration bonus, you now have your POISON TOTAL.

Stage Three

Now onto making an antidote. The table of ingredients sits rights next to the poison…probably not the best idea, given how some might mix the two. Rolling 3 d 10, students get 3 ingredients. If one is rolled twice, (two of the dice give the same number) they may roll again until they have 3 different ingredients.
1- Thyme (-2)
2- Cactus flower (+2)
3- Human’s Blood (+1)
4- Dried human’s blood (+2)
5- Human’s tears (-2)
6- Crushed skulls (+1)
7- Filtered Water (NO CHANGE)
8- Mint (-1)
9- Rune stone (+1)
10- Foxglove (-1)
Add up the points for your ‘unrefined’ solution

Stage Four

Taking your mixture to the purification station, it’s a battery of small open flames and strange symbols, you must roll 1 d 4 to determine how well you refined your antidote.
1You end up with a thick tar like substance. (+4 to your antidote!)
2- It’s a glowing red paste now (+3 to your antidote!)
3- Not much changes, it just got a little thicker (+2 to your antidote!)
4- You end up with a clear, if slightly tinted liquid (no change to your antidote, UNLESS in the negatives in which it gains +1)
Taking your Original results from the ‘unrefined’ solution and adding the purification bonus, you now have your ANTIDOTE TOTAL.

Stage Five

The student must now administer their poison and antidote to a small mouse, bird or fish minipet raised to gauge how effective a poison is. They're kept in one of the tanks nearby. They can administer their creations by mouth or by injection.
NOTE! To be considered a ‘pass’ the antidote MUST be stronger than the poison, even if it is in the negatives. If they are equal it is considered a fail.

POISON BREAK DOWN
-3 to 0 <- It's pretty vibrant but apparently you want it turning dark
1-2 <- A few black spots here and there, not much really
3-4 <- The black outweighs the color in ratio now, it's pretty good actually!
5+ Your minipet is a deep black, good job!

ANTIDOTE BREAK DOWN
-3 to 0 <- It doesn’t seem to help at all, it's still back
1-2 <- Helps a bit, but only a few dots of color have come back
3-4 <- The subject is cured! Back to their normal color. Well done!
5+ Your subject is not only cured, but extremely better than before! The colors changing on their coat.

Angenora took her mixture to the filtration system to see how effective her poison was going to be on her test subject. Seemed it turned somewhat clear.
