And again, no luck. The first attempt had gone well enough, too. Maybe he should try something else for now. Still...

"One more time, Adamanth, then we can always come back to this."

O'thor sighed as he looked at his third attempt. No luck.

"Forget it. Let's just move on to splinting."

He set the hide aside in case he was feeling better about his skills later on, and took out the materials necessary for splinting a broken leg.

Rider & Dragon - O'thor and Adamanth
Attempting to - Splint
List passed sections here -

Apparently, O'thor was just dismal at first aid. He stared at his first attempt at splinting, analyzing what he had done and trying to determine where he had gone wrong. It had seemed a simple enough before he had started it. Of course, Adamanth's constant movement wasn't helping matters any. If he hadn't been sure of the opposite, he would have thought the Silver was dying.

He gave Adamanth a steady, dry look, and the Silver stared right back, eyes calmly whirling green at his rider.

You were the one who wanted me to flail about, mine. We were doing fine before that.

"Let's try it with a little less flailing, then," O'thor suggested, his tone so mild as to make it nearly impossible for those listening to tell he was kidding. Adamanth, rumbling a small laugh of his own, thrashed his tail but otherwise kept his movements to more reasonable amounts of jerking and waving. O'thor studied his second attempt. That looked much better.

Having learned from his past mistakes, he set the splint aside and moved on to bandaging. This was a task he'd performed in the past, when he'd had Candidate duties in the infirmary. Since he had some prior experience, he was confident his attempt at bandaging, while not perfect, might be as satisfactory as this attempt at splinting.

Rider & Dragon - O'thor and Adamanth
Attempting to - Bandaging
List passed sections here -

Sure enough, with only one try O'thor showed that he was still a proficient hand at bandaging. There were a few places that could use improvement, but that would only come with practice. O'thor began unwinding the bandage for a second attempt. Adamanth didn't understand why his rider thought he needed to redo something that was already good, but left him to it. This lesson was turning out to be easy, if boring.

Just one more try for this, unless I somehow manage to do worse the second time than the first, O'thor promised as he held Adamanth's leg steady and carefully began rewinding bandage around the limb.

Well, it looked as if he was in luck. At least on a second attempt his bandaging hadn't gotten any worse. If he could say his attempts were consistent, than that would have to be good enough for this lesson. He would keep practicing. For now, though....

He looked over at the hide for stitching again and finally reached for it. If he was so poor at this one skill, he really did need to practice it. It was important to know your weaknesses so that you could improve on them. Of course, he spent a great deal of time thinking, which gave him plenty of time to consider where his weaknesses in this class lay.

Mercy had noticed O'thor and his silvers arrival while she was explaining things but continued on anyways, when he came up and apologized for being late she'd merely nodded and sent him on his way again. Late once she could forgive..if they were late a second time then she would have to have a bit of a chat with him about keeping up with schedules, how was he going to fly in a wing if he couldn't keep up with practices? But today might have just been a fluke and so she was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

As the students started to practice Mercy moved among them, Z'en's attempt at stitching earned a nod of approval, there was room for improvement of course but it was far from a bad try. Enyo too seemed to be giving stitching a try and did well - if this kept up then they'd have plenty of people capable of helping the next time thread fell and there were wounded to tend too and she smiled at the girl encouragingly.

C'irci was the first to try a splint and Mercy smiled slightly at the blues somewhat distracted looking wiggling "Good job" She told both the blue and his before moving on.

O'thor seemed to be trying to stitching and she watched for a few moments to see if he'd caught all of her instructions upon arrival - when he seemed to be doing fine she went to check on other's progress. A glance back showed C'iri stitching away like an expert but given how she'd had plenty of practice after the first thread fall Mercy wasn't surprised by this at all.

A look back to Enyo proved that she was flying through the course as well, Mercy caught sight of her splint moments before she took it off and it looked quite passable. Pausing she watched as she wound a bandage around her green's leg. It was excellent work and she called out the appropriate kudos "Excellent Enyo!"

Turing back she noted a good bit of thrashing from the silver and started over in that direction to see if O'thor had somehow managed to accidentally hurt the dragon - though Aerith who was watching for such things hadn't called out 'he is fine' the white stated after noticing it's riders thoughts 'merely taking your instructions to heart'

'Good' Mercy responded to the white pausing to watch from a little way's off as O'thor undid his rather dismal stitches to try again..and again..and again. Apparently he just didn't have a stitching hand - though he had seemed to be doing fine before his silver had started moving about so much - ah well it was a learning experience. And at least he seemed to learn from his mistakes because his second attempt at splinting showed a vast improvement and he seemed to be an old hand at bandaging.

So, she thought to herself with a bit of an inner chuckle, she would just have to make sure he didn't try to stitch up anyone who was thrashing about to much and things would be fine. "Your doing fine" She encouraged O'thor "Stitching someone whose moving about takes a good bit of practice"

To Z'en that nod of approval meant more to him than words of praise. He moved onto the next task, "ok Kataith.. i'm going to practice binding wounds now ok?" he told her in a soft voice, just above a whisper. "I know Mine, just take your time Z'enmine and you will do great" she soothed.

Z'en got some water and a cloth, using one of Kataith's forelimbs for the task, and gently washed the area he was planning on bandaging. Carefully he wrapped her limb, trying to keep it tight but not so that it would cut off any circulation.

However, Z'en didn't make it tight enough and when Kataith stood the bandage fell down and he'd forgotten the 'numbweed' . With a sigh Z'en picked it up and began again.

This time Z'en did a better job, it didn't fall off when Kataith stood up though he could see room for improvement. Smiling he patted Kataith "shall we try again my love?" he asked, receiving a rumble of comfort. "alright, settle back down silly" he said, removing the bandage and having another go. Even if it wasn't as good as the first time, at least he was practising.

Z'en frowned, well he wasn't perfect but he didn't do any worse, or better than before and Z'en knew his limits. His attempt, like the stitching, was far from healer standard but when push came to shove anyone he took care of would be in fairly decent hands and until a Healer came and checked over the less injured patients such as those he and his classmates would likely be attending, they'd survive well enough.

C'rci & Bolth -
Attempting to - Bandage
List passed sections here - Bandaging 4

Mine the others are a good ways ahead of us in their work. Bolth noted with whirling eyes glancing up at his rider with a worried look. She was the competitive sort, though Bolth had yet to understand his rider's need to strive for perfection he was certainly more then happy to help her attain it.

Better to take our time and do the job right then rush and have to do it twice or worse risk injuring the patient. Patience is a virtue dear heart. C'rci replied offhandedly as she carefully cleaned the spot she intended to bandage then slathered it with numbweed undoing a roll of bandages to begin neatly binding her blue partners side and tending to his mock injury. Twitching and rolling Bolth played the injured patient trilling up at Fasha when the crimson confused chittered down at him scoldingly unable to understand this strange act.

That feels funny Mine. Bolth chittered twitching his wings and lifting his head to nuzzle his rider's shoulder making her grin and reach out to ruffle his head frill.

I've put numbweed on you before Bolth.
She replied enjoying the flashes and images filtering through her mind from her companion as he glanced about ever the social butterfly.

Never this much Mine. Just when I scuff up my head or nick myself. Bolth corrected her eyeing the neat tight bandages on his side.

True. I'll wipe it off when I remove the bandages so you'll get feeling back soon. C'rci answered reaching one hand up to scratch Fasha's eyeridges assuring the little crimson that no Bolth was not actually hurt.

Lifting his head while his worked Bolth eyed Katiath trilling cheerfully at her. Hello Katiath friend. How is you and yours this fine day? This 'acting' thing is fun is it not?

Enyo blushed at hearing the praise and Jineth purred as Enyo hide her face letting her dark hair block view on one side. She slowly undid Jineth's Bandage as she cleaned her area back to how it was when she first arrived. Jineth returned to laying on her stomach and wrapped her tail to hug Enyo. Enyo hugged back and then looked to her teacher, "Madam Mercy, I know this is rude but is there anything else on today's agenda? If not I did promise many my flints some treats."

Enyo's voice was quiet and shy but she worried her other flints being left alone to long.

Rider & Dragon - O'thor and Adamanth
Attempting to - Stitch
List past sections here - 3, 1, 1, 1

O'thor looked up, startled, then smiled. "Thank you, Weyrlingmaster."

He refocused on the stitching materials in his hand and laid them against Adamanth. He shot the Silver a look, but all he got in reply with Adamanth's steady stare.

No thrashing.

Adamanth let his head fall back so he could peruse his other clutchmates, feeling bored. Perhaps some socializing would do him good. He wiggled slightly as O'thor began his stitching. I will not thrash. How is Yours doing at her tasks, Bolth? He rolled further to get a better look at Bolth and his rider.

At first, the stitching seemed to be going well. The first rows were even, even with Adamanth wriggling a bit. And then he turned over and O'thor had to drop the needle to keep from stabbing him. He shot Adamanth a nasty look, that the Silver either ignored or missed (probably the former), and then sighed under his breath and continued his stitches. Which came out almost as atrociously as before. He shook his head and risked a peek up at the other Weyrlings to see how well they had done with their stitches.

Now that Adamanth seemed settled on observing the others and their area in general, O'thor was treated to only the occasional fidget. And still... a poor attempt. He just wasn't a natural at stitching, and anyone he tried to stitch up seemed destined to bleed out.

O'thor stared at the stitches, then rubbed at his forehead with one hand.

This was going to take a while.
