The box seemed to not care that it was no longer being observed as closely, and did not burst into contrary bloom.

Pity, that.

((2: Whatever you tried this time, nothing happens. Ktur looks at you as if you're close to one of the most worthless things he's ever seen. Then he goes back to picking at his toenails with a grungy stick.

The Horseman came over, peering at the box, then drummed on the glass walls and blew a few puffs of air in through the lid. Nothing happened.

Well, at least Malodore wasn't the only one in the room with no results.

((11: Ktur approaches you and tries to assist. His attempts do absolutely nothing. Maybe that's why he asked you to help in the first place.

Movement!

Malodore leaned in, then recoiled with a sharp hiss. Were those.

They were not-

Tiny gnomes.

It could only watch in horror as the miniature miscreants lit a fire (another fire! why would they do that!) and threw things everywhere, breaking down two more trees and flinging the remains against the walls. And then, as suddenly as they appeared, they vanished.

Little bastards.

((12: A pack of what look like little gnomes appear in your diorama. They light a tiny bonfire (yes, even underwater) and generally mess up the joint. The desert, volcano, arctic and underwater environments lose 2 HP, the prairie loses 10, and the rainforest is unaffected.

Malodore shoved its hand in through the lid and tried to suss out where the gnomes had gone, but it couldn't find them anywhere. It did knock over the last tree, though.

A few embers from the gnomes' fire were still burning. Wary of another conflagration, Malodore grabbed a beaker of water and started drizzling liquid onto the warm spots. Some of the water sloshed, though, and the resulting miniature flood drowned one of the few remaining patches of viable shrubbery.

((3: There's too much water! You lose 5 HP in the volcano and arctic, 2 HP in the rainforest and prairie, and none in the underwater and desert environments.

Malodore sighed as the last bits of life vanished from its little world. It had no idea what had prompted this sudden failure of viability. Maybe it died out of sheer horror at being populated by gnomes. That was always a possibility.

It bowed sheepishly to the Horseman and retreated.

Vegetation Lab

For some reason, Malodore hadn't been expecting to actually see Famine's Heir here - a singularly foolish assumption, but there it was. Thus, the plague doctor was slightly taken aback when it arrived for instruction and found her there waiting for it.

... It would do its best.

Her instructions were strange, disjointed and rambling, as if someone had taken the proper instructions, stirred them up, and then mixed in a few unrelated texts before coming up with the overall curriculum. It supposed this was what Insanity could do... and that was rather depressing.

But it was hear to learn, not think about Riley and Jericho's prospects. Forcing the thoughts to one remove, Malodore focused on the boxes, picking one up at random. It had...

... a glass foot stool (who even made furniture entirely out of glass?!), a bag of dirt (that actually made sense), and a vial of rather scummy-looking water (possibly useful?). Very well, then...

Suddenly, plants. Malodore stared, its eyes growing increasingly wider behind the lenses, as Cymbeline began rattling off precise botanical and agricultural instructions. It knew they were precise, because the terms were extremely scientific and lengthly, and it knew a lot about science but medicine was its true passion so nearly everything Cymbeline said went well over its head. Which was kind of embarrassing, but there it was.

And then there was a terrarium in front of it, much like the ones it had used in the environmental studies exercise the day before, but unassembled. Malodore quickly began putting the thing together, hoping that having seen it fully built would give it some kind of advantage.

... Not really. But at least it only took three tries to get it set up?

Malodore did its best to listen to Cymbeline's continued explanations, but it just couldn't make the words she was saying make any sort of sense long-term. Bother. It was grateful when she stopped talking and slung a box onto the table, allowing it to select two different bags: one apparently of Human crops, and the other of familiar Halloween varieties.

It wanted to look through the Human seeds at length, but it also didn't want to risk frustrating or angering Cymbeline, so it selected two bags at random. It began setting up its tank, dividing the seeds into separate compartments and then drizzling the contents of the vial-

-Merde. It was very nearly impaled through the beak by a sudden growth spurt. Malodore backed up carefully, shaking a strangling vine off of its outstretched hand. That serum was very effective, to be sure! It wondered what was in it, but there was no time to ask as the Heir approached once more. The Strangling Knotweed seemed to be reaching out for the Human plant (which had an odd, sweet fragrance), and a faint mist was leeching between the two.

Very faint.

Cymbeline's face said everything. Malodore drooped and bowed to her. Apparently plants simply weren't its forte.

((6. Vanilla Bean + 3. Strangling Knotweed = failure. Alas~))

Foraging

This was, Malodore had to admit, a bit of a gamble. It felt it was much more suited to the laboratories and greenhouses, but it was also determined to experience the full range of this Clan's life. And that included foraging, apparently. Besides, who knew when it might need to go to great lengths to obtain a special medicine? This just might be a very useful life experience.

Or so it hoped.

The watching Horsewoman shoved it towards a particular tree; Malodore stumbled, then caught itself and walked firmly towards the trunk. Plague doctors weren't really meant for climbing, but it was going to do its best. It reached out and dug its claws into the trunk, flaking bits of bark against its palms-

"Achoo!!"

Malodore recoiled sharply, clapping its hands over its beak, which only made it sneeze again, and harder. What was this?! A sneeze? It had never sneezed before, its own natural immunity protected it from such minor irritatio-

"ACHOO!"

Oh, merde, this was terrible. It knew what this was, it realized, lowering its hands and rubbing them desperately on its robes. This was an allergen. And it had no protection against such things. "Achoo. AhCHOO! Achoo..."

Unmoved, the Horsewoman shoved it at a different tree instead.

"Achoo my apologies," Malodore managed as it stumbled against the next tree. Fortunately this one's bark didn't seem as flaky, and a few tentative touches made it clear that this one wasn't going to half-kill it with sneezing. Thank Jack.

Now.

Malodore dug its claws into the trunk and pulled itself upwards - at least it was light, so it wasn't too much exertion to lift itself as it wrapped its legs around the tree. Up, and up, and-

Thunk.

It had hit its head on something. Not hard. Just enough for it to stop, look up, and-

"Aaaaaaaah merdeeee," Malodore wailed as the angry bees from the hive it had just bumped swarmed out in rage. It wasn't long before the plague doctor was on the ground again, hat off and flailing at the insects to make them stop. It was pretty sure the Horsewoman was laughing at it.

The Horsewoman gave Malodore a sharp look - the time for picking was at hand, and here it was still on the ground. Swearing under its breath and swatting away the last of the infuriated swarm, Malodore poked yet another tree. After confirming that it wasn't allergic, nor did the tree contain a beehive, the plague doctor started climbing once more. Surely the third tree would be the charm?

It hoped so. It was running out of trees, and time.

It climbed up until there were branches around it, looking carefully around as its hooves scrabbled at the trunk for purchase. Really not the best type of feet for climbing, but it had no choice. There was a vine off to one side, and Malodore jumped for it, wrapping its claws around it. The vine groaned under its weight, but did not break, and the plague doctor was able to swing up to a higher branch.

Hah! Take that, nature!

There was a fruit.

It was just out of reach, and Malodore could see the flesh within straining at the rind. It was perfect. It was perfect now. And in even four minutes, it would be over-ripe...

It made its move. The plague doctor jumped for it, arms and fingers outstretched to pluck the fruit off of the branch. Its claws closed delicately around the fruit, and the flesh warmed against its palms. For one terrifying moment, it was sure it was about to squish the fruit right there.

Then the stem snapped, cleanly, and plague doctor and fruit were falling down, down, down, the wind whistling in Malodore's ear-holes... and then it landed in a pile of rushes with a soft crunch, fruit held triumphantly above it.

The Horsewoman plucked the fruit right out of its hands, studied it, then gave Malodore a begrudging nod. The plague doctor sighed, then flopped back into the pile of rushes. It would just stay here for a while... yes.

((Sounds Training!))

After yesterday's events, Malodore had had quite enough of nature. It was definitely going to do something inside today, and far away from any plants that might make it sneeze or shrink or anything like that. It had noticed that the Horsemen seemed extremely tuned in to sound - while nobody had explained specifics to it, it had noticed the correlation in subtle sound to the Horsemen's moods. No doubt it was missing a great deal by not understanding this secondary 'language'.

Thus, it approached the chiming room, looking up when it tripped the windchimes over the door on entering. The Horsewoman seemed enthusiastic enough, in her own odd way, and Malodore was always happy to see good bones put to good use. Even if it was as a tool, rather than as a specimen or experiment.

When it was led over to the box of skulls, Malodore listened to the instructions, bobbing its head before examining the skulls. One skull was long and thin and familiar. Avian - not plague doctor, of course; their beaks weren't technically part of their skulls. But similar enough, and the long curve of the beak could serve as a handhold. It picked up the bird skull, then selected some sand to fill it, mindful of the more fragile nature of avian bones (personal experience).

Of course, it would have to plug up the holes and make the skull into a proper container. The plague doctor sat down with its tools and began to work, filling in the holes as best it could. When it thought it had finished, it looked up at the Horsewoman. Time for the next step?

((5-6 : You got all the holes... You think...? Probably? (+1) ))
