"Yeah, don't you think I wish he'd hit harder?" For the first time she was showing any sign of emotion, raising her voice just a little and glaring at him. "What do you know, anyway, huh?" How long had he been on the island, compared to her? How much had she been through? Maybe at 19 it was a little too late to pull the whole 'rebellious teenager' thing, but Reine couldn't help it; here she was, upset about the whole mission thing, all she wanted to do was put a clean end to everything. Put everything behind her.
He'd been so ready to sacrifice Eva, too, what did he care that she was alive- why was he making such a huge deal about her attitude, anyway? The more he talked, the more she was getting irritated. Maybe it was because he had a point, and she didn't want to admit it.
It wasn't that she didn't remember what it felt like, that rush of adrenaline she'd felt, receiving message texts. She still remembered, vaguely, pride in being a hunter, in what they were doing, and the confidence that they could succeed. All that had crumbled as easily as a piece of shortbread, and now all her memories from before the mission felt so distant--
Her cheek stung from the punch- she hadn't even seen it coming, hadn't even realised what hit her. He'd knocked her to the ground easily, just like the horseman had. For a moment she saw the dark figure above her, again, mocking her. For a moment she was back in the bar, tied up on the ground, struggling, unable to do anything--
If she'd had the choice then, she would have struck out, no matter how hopeless the situation felt. As long as she had-- Ally in her hand, Reine forced herself to her feet and leapt at the figure, slashing as hard as she could.
... It took her a while to realise she'd just hit Rep, and not... a horseman.

His first reaction to being hit was the same as it almost always was, laughter. He couldn't help it, there was something thrilling and delightful about getting a violent reaction out of someone. It was like he'd won in some small way. As far as Reine was concerned, he considered getting her to hit him as pure progress. Let her attack him, it at least meant she had some ******** fight left in her still.
"What do I know? More than you sweetie." he gave her a malicious little look. "Which is pretty ******** sad eh? You've fallen pretty ******** far to be needing talked to by someone like me."
He summoned Tracey in a lazy little gesture. "Was a good ******** hit. You apparently /do/ have some ******** fight in you still. Amazing, you had me convinced you would just roll over and take it like the quitter you are. But here. Let me check if that was just a fluke"

It was far easier to get back into sparring than she'd expected, as tired and weak as she felt. When you were faced with a threat, when you were given the chance to fight back, you couldn't help but do just that. The minute Rep summoned his weapon, Reine was slashing at him again, purely out of habit, or instinct.
"Who says I need to be talked to by you?" Inside, though, there was maybe a shred or two of gratitude; the scowl on her face had turned into a smirk- if it was a challenge she could handle, she wasn't about to back down.
"Fluke yourself, Rep."

A rush of delight meant his mood improved immensely as the other hunter fought back, reeling back a few steps as she swung out at him. "Just like that." he purred teasingly.
"You clearly ******** do need to be talked to by me, all that self-pitying bollocks." he bumped her almost playfully with the handle of Tracey. "Just fight."
And then he swung again, determined to keep her on the offensive.

"Yeah, you're one to talk," she huffed, bringing an arm up to block the hit. "Holding back because I'm a girl, or injured, something?" His next move was easily sidestepped; granted, Rep was fast, even with a weapon like that- she couldn't understand the mechanics of it- but just not fast enough.
The way he phrased that annoyed her, though. Self-pitying bollocks.. yeah, well. Well, if you looked at it that way, yeah... well. Frowning, she lashed out at him again, the tip of the blade barely nicking him.
Focus, she thought, hopping back a few steps and trying to collect her thoughts. Self-pitying bollocks or not, she didn't intend on losing this.
