Rep as a rule wasn't known for his open friendliness. So it was with mild distrust and suspicion that he met Dakota's introduction, eyeing his hand for just a little longer than might have been comfortable before shaking it.
"I'm Rep. Sun."

God. Hunter food could really use...an improvement. Clerise couldn't help but eyeball the girl little Dakota was hanging all over, jumping up to follow them. Red eyes lit up with mischievousness as Dakota asked, an evil grin spreading across her face.
"Can't let her go without me," she said, following along, content to watch this new, pretty little thing interact with Dakota.
"Oi Rep," she said, giving him a wave. He'd earned a little respect in Clerise's eyes, for filling her in on some serious s**t. "Sup Starshine? How could you go WITHOUT me?" Insert mock pout here.

A capable leader could handle unexpected things. Reine, unfortunately, though she wasn't quite a capable leader, was trying to be one, and might possibly have overestimated herself a little, or maybe more than a little. It was with a curt nod (after she recovered from the initial shock) that Dakota and Clerise were met, the only indication that she'd accepted them into the team. She'd need to keep an eye on those two- an eye each, literally, because she trusted Eva and Rep at least to, well, not get into too much trouble.
Quickly, she ran through the contents of the message with them, making sure they'd properly understood what the task was- surveillance, no attacking, blah blah blah. Blah.

Rep didn't actually get around to shaking Dakota's hand, instead feigning - and badly - that he hadn't seen it. Handshakes were a little too much contact for the red headed man. Instead he greeted Clerise, giving her a nod in return for her wave, about as civil a greeting as he gave anyone. He was still trying to be on fairly good behaviour, for however long /that/ resolution lasted.
He listened intently to Reine as she rhymed off the mission details, fighting of his disappointment just a little at the realisation it was surveillance. He really enjoyed hitting things.

The lighthouse portal was actually relatively busy this afternoon, in fact, there was something of a traffic hold up, several Hunters waiting to get their Runic weapons charged, equipment checked, examined, before heading off to their designated portal.
Finally, it was Reine's group's turn, the Hunter on portal duty simply giving the trainee an odd look before passing her and the group a simple Fear scanner, similar, if not identical, to the one used in the last larger scale mission to the Four Clans Lair.
"Strap it around yer watch." The Hunter informed, gruffly, a little annoyed the trainees were just standing there, holding up the line. "The scanner acts as a camera feed, so we can monitor ya. Ya got clearance for a surveillance mission only, so don't try to do anything funny trainees, and don't break the equipment, ya get it?" They also muttered something about how equipment wasn't easy to fix or replace these days as they handled the next group.
Upon stepping through the portal, the trainee would find themselves-
- In a large, flat open expanse, what looked ironically like a corn field. A long dirt trail extended from their location to a farmhouse several yards into the distance, a small humble red-wood structure accompanied by a simple white house. Upon walking close to the farm house, the dirt road merged with a larger road, even only only probably wide enough to accompany one vehicle. A tractor sat next to the road, unused. The actual living quarters, the house of the small farm had its doors and curtains open, but there was no sign of anyone living inside, a strange rotting stench coming from within it. Outside the house, in the barn section, there were signs that this place once had life, but no actual animals, or humans living around.
Engraved at the very base of the dirt road driveway of the farm house was a sigil, a familiar spiral with a sharp hook. While the skies were cloudless and clear, the wind gentle at worst, everything was usually quiet.
That is, until a sound came from next to the open door of the house, a soft creaking noise. Was that someone moving behind the curtains or just a figment of the trainees' imagination? Was there someone perhaps, watching them?OOC: INVESTIGATING - Trainees can now investigate around the farm house. They are free to go into the barn, investigate the open yard, or go into the house. Inside the house, there is upturned furniture but no actual signs of life. Trainees can choose to investigate certain areas of the house (the kitchen, living room, single bedroom) as well.

It reminded her of home- the first home, the one where--
She didn't really want to think about it right now, instead focusing on strapping the fear scanner onto her wrist. The cornfields.. there were things she associated with those, rather unpleasant things, like that incident with Petra when they were kids, and then that trial they'd had to go through on the island...
A frown on her face, the life trainee turned back, waiting for the rest of her group to catch up. Ironically, she thought of Justin here and his raid check.. thing, well, maybe he had a little bit more sense than she'd thought.
"Everyone got your fear scanners?" Without waiting for a reply, Reine made her way down the dirt trail, following the path towards the farmhouse.
It even.. looked the same, for the most part, paint peeling, wood splintering, old. She hadn't gone back to the house since the move, but sometimes she'd just stood and stared, from the driveway, just watching as it fell into ruin.
Alright, seriously, time to get a grip. Reine was reluctant to have them split up- though it might be faster, she didn't like the idea of anyone running into anything, especially not since 1. the mission possibly involved horsemen, and 2. she was responsible for everything. A sound startled her, and Reine turned, instinctively stepping back, Alynthe appearing in her hand for just a moment before being desummoned again.
Reflexes, okay? But the mission shouldn't involve attacking, which meant she needed to keep that particular urge under control.
Waving them over, she indicated the interior of the house.
"I think I heard something in there."

Dakota blinked as he strapped the wrist scanner on before shrugging. The sun hunter Rep, he'd remember his name and the fact that he didn't get a handshake.
Especially not getting a handshake.
Once through the portal though, he sniffed at the smell of earth and wheat and sighed. A farmhouse really? It was a bit of ways off but well...
"Wait..Reine." Dakota blinked again before catching up to her and reaching for her arm. "Aren't you leading the mission? Why don't you wait for us to flank you and then...." He sighed as she continued to stalk off. Man nothing he said seemed to make her happy.
He fell back and came to walk by Rep instead.
"So is there a reason I didn't get a handshake bro?" Dakota blinked at the man. "Want to have one now? I promise I ain't got some weird hand disease and s**t."

Oops. Judging by the look on Reine's face, Eva wasn't entirely sure if it had been a good idea to bring Dakota and Clerise along, but...well, what was done was done! Besides, it seemed as if her friend had decided it was fine for the pair to join the mission group, so no harm done, right?
She didn't say much until they were finally through the portal--she had been too distracted staring at Rep and Clerise with a "oh god you guys are familiar and I should know your names but..." look in her eyes. Once they were through the portal, however, she turned her attention to their new surroundings instead. A corn field--wasn't that lovely? Like Reine, it brought back some memories for Eva, but for an entirely different reason. For Eva, the corn field reminded her of the first place she had woken up at during the Island test.
Ugh.
Noting that Reine was already moving, Eva shoved the thought out of her mind and hurried to follow on the girl's heels. After a minute in silence, she turned around, walking backwards as she eyed the people walking behind her. She still couldn't recall the names of the two lambs, so...
"Hey, I don't think I caught your names!" She piped up suddenly, looking between Rep and Clerise, "I'm Eva. Eva, Evie--whatever works! And you guys are...?"
She turned back around to look at Reine when her friend spoke, lips tugging downwards in a small frown as her gaze flickered towards the house. "In there, huh?" Lifting a hand, she cupped her cheek as she eyed the house contemplatively, "Well...should we investigate, do you think? Just give us your orders, boss!" The last part was added with a grin directed at Reine.

Clerise slapped on her FEAR scanner with a disgruntled face, remembering it from that hellish mission. She followed Reine, staring at the fields that the portal led to.
"Clerise," the acrobat said to the new girl, not unkindly. "I'm in Life, like Starshine. Uh, Reine, that is."
She turned her eyes upward into the unbroken blue sky, a scant few clouds in sight. All around her was wide, open spaces. ...******** unnerving, that's what it was.
Un. Nerv. Ing.
"Don't be a wuss," she teased Dakota, ruffling his hair as she walked by, stopping short in front of the sign.
"I recognize this thing! From the last mission I did. We went to stop some....thing...You know, I dunno what the ******** it was. But yeah, me and Robert and Candace and Dwight and Clarice all saw these...the spirally-doodads."
She snapped a picture or two of them with her phone.

Rep hated it when the portals were busy and quietly reverted to trying to look interested while letting his brain glaze over temporarily. When they were handed fear scanners however, he felt his stomach clench in anxiety. The last time he'd been given one of these things, people DIED. He relaxed though when it seemed like they were only there for the sake of surveillance.
Unfortunately, his anxiety didn't ease off as they exited the portal, the immediate impression he got one of oppressive silence. He'd always been a city slicker, so desolate farms had a distinct alien and unsettling quality. The only place he'd ever seen places like this was in movies where people got cut up by axe wielding maniacs and other such fun things. He wasn't even slightly afraid, nope.
He turned on his fear scanner as a means of distraction about to follow Reine along the path when Dakota headed over, giving him a momentarily baffled look, as if he'd actually forgotten all about the handshake and the other man was crazy. "Oh. Right." It seemed to dawn on him. "Wow man, you really ******** want to touch me. I don't do handshakes okay. No homo."
Eva earned a lazy disinterested look, females tended to get about half of his attention unless he was given reason to pay proper attention to them and it showed. "Oh right. I'm uh. Rep, and s**t."
The red haired man sauntered off along the path after Reine trying to look half as anxious as he actually felt, stopping by Clerise as she pointed out the sign, freezing.
"Ah s**t. Those things showed up on the external to Disneyland too. Jordan had a photo of one too. They are like tags and s**t. A "we were here guys" thing from whoever it is behind all this s**t." it didn't bode well. He turned his gaze on the house with a frown.
"We were here and maybe we still are." Last time it had been ghosts, ghosts strong enough to warrant calling in backup.
Nope, he wasn't scared.

Clerise merely tossed Rep a concerned, but determined, look in reply, toying with her lip ring out of worry.

"What?" Reine didn't recognise the sigil, but Rep and Clerise caught her attention, with what they were saying. A 'we were here', some kind of challenge. Some mark, maybe, that the horsemen used. Pursing her lips, Reine turned back to the door, regarding it. There was a hint of movement inside, and she had the impression surveillance missions should involve things like them standing, backs against the wall of the house outside the door, waiting for a signal from her before bursting in and yelling "FREEZE WE GOT YOU", except she also had the impression that they needed to be quiet, because keeping low-key was.. well, key.
"Let's head in," she decided, keeping her voice low and raising her wrist to indicate the fear scanner. "Keep your eyes peeled."
Rep's words haunted her- maybe we still are. Well, if they were, they would deal with it- there wasn't any way around that. With a deep breath, she took a step forwards, purposely stepping in the circular mark and rubbing it out, before entering the house.
Something in here.. smelt weird, but was it food gone bad- unsurprising considering the emptiness in the town- or was it.. dead bodies somewhere? The thought of that made her stomach turn, and she looked away, trying not to think too much about it. They'd cross that bridge if they needed to- for now, she started looking around the seemingly empty living room.
Or did it still count as a living room?

Dakota continued to frown as Clerise passed him, ruffling his hair before shrugging. "I am not a wuss." He mumbled before looking at Rep and frown...deepen.
"Man I just ant a handshake, its a formal greeting for men. But if you want a kiss or something, no homo, Your going to have to ask one of the ladies. Not reine or I'll kill you." He smiled again holding his hand out, "Now...Handshake." He blinked and waited. "Do it Bro. Just Do it." He held his hand out more, pushing forward.
"Nice place, I didn't know they remodeled for the apocalypse." Dakota sighed as they all entered and looked around. His voice hushed as Reine took the lead in and frowned. "Reine...REINE." He whispered...then he whispered louder. "The thing out front, gang tag by a Halloweener?" He pinched his noise before, "God what is that smell? Seriously? Who left their dinner out?"

"Gotcha. Nice to meet you guys!" Clerise and Rep--she would remember those two names. She flashed them both a bright, cheery grin, but said nothing else as they reached the door of the house. She fell silent, her gaze flickering down to her Fear reader and then back up as Reine spoke. Alright, let's do this!
She followed after Reine silently, lips pressed together as a reminder to stay quiet (because God knows that Eva needed that reminder). The strange smell made her wrinkle her nose, and she lifted a hand to cover her nose and mouth. Man, what was that? Grimacing, she took a few more steps into the living room, doing a quick scan over the the room before moving farther in to search more thoroughly.
Eva was especially careful to keep an eye on her Fear reader while doing so. After a moment of pause, she glanced over her shoulder to look at Reine, raising her brows. "Should we stay together, or spread out through the house?" She whispered, careful to keep her voice as low as she could.

Rep resisted the urge to punch Dakota for implying he'd want a kiss solely on the merit this was a mission and they were being watched. Instead settling for clenching his hands into fists and gritting his teeth. He didn't have time for this argument and there was no violent way to get out of it while on duty.
So he took the damn handshake and tried very hard to squeeze Dakota's hand as hard as he could.
And then wiped his hand on his shirt.
He didn't /touch/ men if he could avoid it but this guy was SO persistent. "Happy now?" he hissed
As the others entered the house, he followed, the smell immediately getting to him and making him have to resist the urge to retch. He said nothing though in here. At all. It was much too risky and he had to keep his ears fixed on anything at all outside the norm.
He shot Eva a worried look. He really didn't want to split up. Reaaaaallly didn't. But he said nothing.
