"They were... older models," He said quietly. "I was... was warned about what would happen if I didn't abort before they officially were destroyed. I think my brain just... um. Thought I was more hurt than I was," He rubbed his stomach self consciously, still feeling the phantom pangs of wounds that weren't there. "It was alright, though. It was... mostly the um. Last one that really did it. I tried to buffer it with um. A little uh," He made a small hand motion as though drinking an invisible bottle, "But I think that just sort of... complicated things further ahahaha..."

Jordan nodded. "I see," he said neutrally, but he couldn't quite keep the worry off his face.

Jerry shifted, one leg jumping nervously under the table as he sipped his coffee in what he hoped was the most casual way possible.

"Sorry," Jordan said, and looked down at his cup. "I'm not trying to - I get worried," he admitted, a little defensively.

"I'm sorry," Jerry said softly, warming his hands with the Styrofoam cup and a meek expression. "I'm um. Not used to uh. People worrying about me. Generally speaking. I've just been all out of sorts lately and um."

"You've got your reasons," Jordan said, still not looking up. "But ... there are people who care. And worry." He took a sip of coffee, set the cup back down. Then he half-smiled. "If you don't take basic care of yourself, man, I'll have to let Killzone know."

"Quit forgetting to eat, then," Jordan told Jerry, a thread of his usual dry humor sneaking back into his voice. "It's not doing you any favors." He glanced up at Jerry, then away again. "Neglecting yourself isn't going to make anything better and it makes me worry about you, so quit it."

Jerry scratched at his stubbly cheek, with it's unfamiliar passing of smooth scar into lawnmower territory, "I've um. Been avoiding the bathroom. But I have been eating, I swear! Just... not hungry at the moment is all. Um. Thank you though. You don't have to worry about me, really. I'll... I'll be okay. I promise.' He gave a weak smile, fidgeting again before clearing his throat, "Um. Um. On the subject of um. Taking care of myself er..." He stopped himself suddenly, looking embarrassed, "Never mind."

Jordan shrugged, embarrassed. "Can't help it. I worry about all my friends. Moreso for Phoenix, you know? It's not like - I'm not really responsible for any of you any more, but I still feel like I want to take care of you."
He gave Jerry a sharp look at the last statement. "You know I'm going to pry it out of you now that you've mentioned it," he said. "So just tell me so I don't have to."

Jordan looked away again, flushing slightly. "I, er. I figure there'll be time enough to think about that once I've been promoted again. I don't know how much I should say, really. There seems to be a lot of subtle maneuvering that we don't see much of as trainees."
You're full of it, Ferros laughed. You'd love to have a lead position.
It's a good thing I'm the only one who can hear you, Jordan grumbled. You'd ruin my reputation.

Jerry snorted with a light chuckle, "I was in charge for a whole afternoon once. And I organized a drum circle. I really don't think that's what they're looking for in a Sun Leader, ahahaha. I think you'd do great!"
