THE UNDERGROUND OF DARKNESSThe Course: This course takes place in a large pitch black space somewhere underground. The object is to navigate what is presumably a maze, and make it out without losing your way or getting snatched by one of the creatures manning it. Mechanics:Quote: Phase OneYou are directed to the opening of a cave, but once inside, something is pushed in front of the entrance. The darkness that results is deep and absolute, and even if a part or all of you glows, that glow is swallowed up a few feet in front of you. - If you FAIL you are instantly redirected to the infirmary, where you obtain however flags you obtained before you failed. Roll 1d4.1, 2, 3: Pass. You make your way forward. The ground is a little uneven and every so often you might stumble over a rock in your path, but all in all, this is the easy part. You obtain one flag. 4: Fail. You trip over a particularly deep rut in the earth and go tumbling into a net which is then dragged into a pit. With spikes. Bye, bye, bye. Bonus Mechanics:- Students who glow in their natural form OR regular form receive an extra life, but it's still pretty dark down here, even for them. You can only use this once. Not long after Aymet had ducked into the cave did he feel the unpleasant rumble of something closing behind him, and cutting off what little light had been coming through the clouds. Maybe... it kept the rain out? The phylactery glowed as brightly as he could manage, but that wasn't enough to show him much of anything. One clawed hand running along the wall, he stumbled around till he came across one of the flags everyone was making such a big deal about. Especially the Lepus Guide, who just would not shut up about it the whole time he was stumbling around.

THE UNDERGROUND OF DARKNESSMechanics:Quote: Phase TwoThe walls to either side of you begin to close in. You can't see them, but you can more easily hear the echo of your breath (if you breathe) or your footsteps (if you don't) or something else (if you do neither of those things). When you reach out your arms to either side, you can feel clammy, slightly damp stone surrounding you. There's a fork in the path here. You stop and feel the walls to your left and right. Roll 1d4.Odd roll: Pass. You venture down the left fork. A few minutes later you hear something that sounds like the scrabbling of claws high on the ceiling, but nothing happens. You obtain one flag. Even roll:You continue on to the right. A short while later, you hear a low growling. Something is after you! Roll 1d6. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5: You turn and run back to the fork. This time you go to the left, silly. Pass. You obtain one flag. 6: A exquisitely fuzzy form grabs you, holding your arms, wings, tails, etc. close in its strawberry-scented embrace. You are taken to a very pink cavern and forced to have tea with an equally pink creature and its three small children. I'm not going to judge you if you kind of like it. When you're done, the creature escorts you out of the cave. Fail. It was starting to get kind of crowded in here. Was it just him or were the walls closing in? The growling, though, definitely not him. He ran.

Long Grass Field
Though their castle hadn't exactly gone down gracefully, Thackery was feeling immensely confident as he approached the next trial. Obstacle courses and flag collecting? He had this.
It was, admittedly, a little disheartening to be separated from his other team members. They worked so well together that the idea of running all of the courses in a sort of relay race seemed kind of fun, but he supposed he understood why the Horsemen wanted it to be this way. Something about personal inner strength and blah blah things that were largely unimportant when applied to future Cerberus kings.
These clan people seriously had no idea who they were dealing with.
He bid Ash goodbye with a kiss to the cheek and to Aymet with a serious brofist, and moved towards his first course, rubbing his exposed arms to try to make the goosebumps go away. This wind was just ridiculous!

The Jungle Course
The first thing Thackery noticed about his course was the smell. It was heavy and earthy and poured forth from the dark, damp forest, the thick humidity almost giving the scent a tangibility. It wasn't necessarily unpleasant, but it was...strange, and he wasn't sure that he really liked it.
"Well. Here goes nothing."
He exhaled through his teeth and stepped into the jungle, feeling the moisture of the ground seeping through his boots. His toes squelched against the soaked soles with every determined step, hardly audible through the constant hum of life.
"Did you know that 'nothing' is mathematically equivalent to four?" inquired his Guide, batting at his ear. Thackery wasn't very interested in math, so he said nothing, trying to add the hypothetical sums in his head.
Sifting through tall grass and saplings and plant-filled mud, he might not have even noticed that he was wading into the water had it not suddenly flooded into his boots. He cried out, unsettled when he realized that the sound that came from his mouth was nearly completely consumed by the noises of the surrounding jungle, and toppled over into the water.
Which was an awful mistake.
His head cracked against a lichen-covered rock, leaving him too stunned to move. When the fish began to frenzy, nibbling his flesh from his bones, he hardly had time to make a sound.
His Guide, however, chimed off as he dissipated:
"Did you know that humans eat fish-shaped crackers? In Halloween, fish eat you!"

THE UNDERGROUND OF DARKNESSQuote: Phase ThreeYou feel a slight breeze as the claustrophobic hall opens out again. And are your eyes deceiving you, or can you see again? This section of the cavern is lit very faintly. Up ahead, you think you can make out a short, wide opening near the floor. It is about as tall as a student lying on his stomach, and lined with chilly mud. Roll 1d4.1, 2: Pass. You wiggle yourself into the opening. It's pretty dark in here again, but you make it through. Eventually. You obtain one flag. 3, 4: Fail.Whether you simply refuse to enter such a dank, grody place, or you decide to brave the nastiness, a rainbow tentacle grabs you by the ankles and drags you down a water slide that ends back outside. (Don't ask how you slid down a slide and ended up on the surface, okay?)

THE CAVE OF DARKNESSFirst it was rain, now it was hot fog. Aymet just went the hell back to the cave he'd hid in the first time. It made perfect sense, especially when he failed to consider what happened the last time he had gone in. Nothing happened, yet.
