I'm not as easy to crush under paw as you may think. Nina snarled back as his forepaws slid beneath the one on his throat, using the force in his shoulders to give himself enough room to breath. Fierce, golden stare tight upon the face that hovered over his own, giving the malevolent hyena clear directions he seemed to be expected to follow in return for the chance to escape.

Perhaps he would have earnestly considered the proposition, rolling to his feet and shaking the dust off his fur, if the damn lion hadn't thrown in that last authoritative swipe for good measure. a** end scooting underneath him to prevent those killing claws from hooking into his flank Nina howled in rage. Turning sharply to leap at the condescending cat, jaws bared and seeking a purchase on pale flesh, slavering and already soaked in the blood of his shrimpy companion. Get off it! Nobody talks to me that way!!

Dooley was starting to feel exasperated by this huena and when he launched himself around the big lion shifted slightly and elbowed the hyena in the jaw, in the hopes of knocking him off blanace again. He was perfectly prepared to go and pin the silly beast again but clearly it had some sort of pride or somehting going on. "Did no one ever teach you to retreat? Get off with you now, I'v had quite enough." the big male shifts his weight from one paw to the other looking overly bored, though his muscular stature remained tense and firmly planted between the hyena and the little lioness.

Wessex smiles a little wrinkly nosed smile and wags her tail happily. "Oh it's no trouble, I clean Dooley up when he gets a scratch." She laughs gently and tip toes around to look at Chai's hind leg. "Ohh that hyena really took a chunk out of you deary." She shakes her head, "I always feel glad to know I am in no way related to them." She huffs and licks Chais wound with her gentle tongue cleaning away the blood carfully, her soft tongue making quick work of the wound.

"He'll be fine. Dooley is an ex firekin, they teach you a few things in the desert, how to fight and how to survive on your own. He's very good at sorting out conflict, big fluffy softy that he is." She smiles a soft careing smile at the rear end of the big white and dappled lion.

Dooleys ears twitched and he let a short chuckle roll over his lips, though his gaze stayed glued to the hyena should it try another attack. "Really Wessex, enough with the proud mother speach, you'll have me blushing." He rolls his shoulders a few loud cricks coming from his bones as he concentrated on the dog like creature. "Move it, I'm giving you one last warning, I won't be trifled with hyena."

Unable to really protest the treatment and certain that the shrewd avian on her back was liable to make her feel guilty for rudely refusing such generosity, Asali'kama quietly permitted the jackal to examine her wounds. Sinew and damp, tattered fur trembled beneath the soft caress of a mothering tongue--a concept she wasn't entirely familiar with--but if it was from pain she didn't breath a sound to indicate as much. Mouth tucked into an abashed frown with guilt. This is how things always were. Others taking care of her. Cleaning up the bizarre messes she always seemed to get herself into in the name of her convictions. Gaze distracted as she observed the rather poorly matched bout going on. No matter how many times she was assured that he'd be alright, Chai winced at the thought of being fought for. A sharp breath catching in her throat when the outraged hyena, who had appeared ready to concede the fight, turned suddenly and lunged in attack. Clocked in the jaw, he was rebuffed with surprising ease, but it still didn't do her heart any good to watch them.

She was almost glad when the tips of piercing talons poked at her to get her attention. Closed eyes were now baring into her as Rin scowled sorely at the lioness who seemed to have forgotten her manners. Honestly. The way she stared at the striking warrior one would have thought Chai had never seen a male of her own kind before. Aren't you forgetting something?

Her tone was pinched with annoyance, being a strict sort of attendant to the flaxen wanderer, wings fanning and flexing as a means to test them once they seemed to have dried sufficiently enough.

..forgetti--- oh! I would never mistake you for a hyena! You're far kinder than the ones I've--- The timid mink began sheepishly before being interrupted by the exasperated creature on her back.

NOT THAT! Sometimes I swear there's only air in that pretty head of yours! Thank her for tending to your injuries. Rin clarified with hissing emphasis.

Making a small noise of embarrassment Chai shrank again, a pale blush appearing through her lightly colored fur as she made herself as small as was physically possible. Not too hard given she wasn't very big to begin with. I..I.. I mean.. th-thank you, you really.. don't have to do that.

Damnit!! For being such a big guy, his opponent had a strangely flawless defense. Quick to cover any blatant openings available for attack as if he left them there purposely to deceive Nina. It only seemed to further fuel the hyena's rage and determination to stick the lion with a little something to remember him by, though that was proving a more difficult task than he had first thought it would be.

Reeling with the hard joint to the side of his jaw, he shook his head violently at the surprise attack that had seemed to come from no where. Nina was always quick to recover though, repeatedly snaking along the giant's body as he snapped and snarled and bared his fangs with a burning desire to draw blood. Each time his advances were swatted off as if he were no more a nuisance than a fly being flicked at by the tail of a lazily roaming wildebeest. It was maddening as the foolishly headstrong scavenger wore himself down with his fruitless effort to attack a being well out of his league.

By the end, his tongue lolled in heavily panting breaths, as exhausted from avoiding those savage teeth and claws as he was from trying to make a mark with his own powerful bite. Nina wouldn't give in if he still had the power to stand though, haunches quivering as they coiled to spring. Leaping to weave around the arm that extended towards him in that irritatingly effortless flick as he aimed just to the side of that protectively thick mane, teeth hungry for the flesh of the lion's shoulder.

Taking a deep breath the big pale male frowns and sits down on his haunches, his paws lifted and he pushes at the male hyena, pushing him away using those powerful shoulder muscles to hopefully shoo off the tired hyena once and for all.

Dooley places his paws back on the ground and looks at the dark male hyena patiently. He says nothing simply waits for the hyenas next decision. Hopefully, the creature was finally tired enough to leave.

The little Jackal smiles "You're welcome, I may need to bind this when Dooley has finished. Its a bit raw to be left open." She smiles softly and wags her tail happily. "Its what I do, when Dooley was younger he used to have to fight and any wounds he gained had to be bound." She laughs softly "I can't remember the last time I had to put a binding on him, I was starting to think all that experience was going to go to waste." She chuckles.

It wasn't hard to see why Dooley didn't often require the services of his adorable and uncannily sweet traveling partner these days. The fact that she was still there to care for him on the off chance that he might need her and continued to remain by his side with such evident devotion was heart warming. Rin and Chai didn't have quite the same relationship and though she appreciated the hawk, her own familiar was rather gruff and didn't possess the sort of personality that invited very many warm, fuzzy moments. Gazing at the pleasant canine she realized for the first time that the pair were actually rather similar in appearance too. Splash a little mud on her fur and they could have been related. You seem close..

Chai's quiet murmur was both admiring and envious, not having a relationship to compare it too, though she imagined having to watch someone you cared for fight and repeatedly be injured was difficult to endure. The only experience the lioness could relate it to were memories painful enough to never want to recall, flinching from them as her distant thought returned to the present situation. Caught in a soft stammer.

B-bind it? Chai tried not to sound troubled by the idea, shaking her head gingerly. I couldn't impose.. a-and it's not my first. I'm sure it'll heal in time, like the others. R-really.. you've done enough already and I don't even know your name.

Watching the pair from her perch Rin glanced from a wound badly in need of treatment to the handy medic and back again before piping up in an authoritative way. It might be best to accept their help. You're not much of a hunter, but you'll be even less of one if you leave that open to infection.

An appreciative look casting towards the monochrome canine. You'd certainly get plenty of practice with this one around.

How humiliating. A last, ditch effort to make this savannah cat rue the day he had crossed paths with Ninavunja and it had crumbled like a brittle old bone in the grasp of his jaws. Snapping closed on air as the long reach of the far larger beast shoved him away. Limbs, teetering with exhaustion, wobbled and flailed with the effort not to fall over, but eventually caved. Black body sinking into the grass a safe enough distance away from the motley group so as to no longer be a burden. Sides heaving in his collapse.

Nina wanted to get up. Wanted to attack again while there was still consciousness left in him, but his legs refused to obey his demands to get up. Instead, his neck sank lower and lower to the ground as if unable to continue supporting the weight of his head.

It was clear that the hyena had been defeated.

The tan maned male nodded his head and turned around at last to look at the little lioness and her companion hawk. "My name is Dooley and the happy hound dog is Wessex. It's very nice to meet you both." He smiles a soft gentle smile which touched those gentle blue eyes. This gentle hero a far cry from the savage creature that had made sure the wily hyena was down for the count.

"Trust Wessex, she knows what she is talking about, she's bandaged me up on more than one occasion. Lets get you out of the sun and she'll sort you out." He smiles and pads up to the female laying himself down he nudges himself as close to the dainty lioness as possible before turning his head and pulling her via her scruff on to his back. He stands as easily as if he had no extra weight and smiles. "Hold on tight now, I'll go careful but it might be a bit of a bumpy ride." He turns himself around and starts to walk slowly his massive form easily carrying the little lioness.

Wessex yaps happily. "This way Dooley, we passed that little watering hole just a while back, it will be the ideal place I can find something to bind that leg and everyone can have a drink." She smiles proudly trotting beside the big male lion, every one of his long graceful steps made her take three or four but she had obviously always travelled with the huge lion because she seemingly walked beside him with ease.

The little jackal glances back only once and shakes her head, she regretted leaving the hyena there, even if he was a naughty creature. She really wished he had just left before Dooley had to resort to true force. The lioness that Dooley was now carrying was more injured than the Hyena though and that made her smile. Dooley hated to kill anything that wasn't for eating, sure the hyena would have a sore head and a few shallow scratches but it was nothing a good sleep wouldn't cure. She was proud of her Dooley for saving the day.
