((Yeah basically if we roll the boss again we can either call for backup or run away from it.))

Candace sighed, watching as Madison sheathed Kouki but kept him summoned. Sometimes she wished Atropos was more convenient to travel with. She looked completely disgusted by the strange...fluid she was covered with; Candace couldn't believe it was blood because ghosts don't ******** bleed. Maybe it was, like, ecotplasm or something. Whatever it was Candace was not a fan. She was trying to wipe it off her as best as she could as she walked along with Madison and Cass, not even paying the snow flurries any mind. She spotted the signs as they walked. Beware of Dog. Caution! Guard dog! Things like that. But she didn't hear or see any of these dogs.. "...Do you think the black dog got territorial over the dogs already here? It's so quiet.."

When Madison seemed to find something Candace turned back to see what she had found, peering over the girl's shoulder. "Strange...we should collect some of that ash and bring it back to the Life labs to be checked.." Meanwhile Candace had taken out her phone to take a picture, about to put it away again when Cass also commented on a sighting of some kind. More spirals..

"Yeah, I've seen this at two other externals...Jordan's seen it, too." She cringed, remembering the story he had told her about the termites and just...ugh. So disgusting. "I asked Clarice if perhaps this is some cult, and she said if it is it's definitely not human." A picture was taken and her phone was put away. She then dug around in her bag for a small baggie and offered it to Madison. "Here, for the ash."

"That is... seriously creepy." Madison frowned. Somehow, the eerie symbols everywhere were creepier than the actual monster they'd just destroyed. They were portents, indelible marks saying: we were here, we did something, we changed this part of the world and you can't put it back how it was. "In other places, too... were there black dogs there, also?" She stepped up to a stop sign with the marking gouged into it and traced the spiral with a fingertip, wincing as some of the torn metal caught at her skin.

"I don't like this, I don't like that it's so... so obvious, you know? Not even trying to hide."

Snow was beginning to fall in earnest now.

"Yeah, the entire atmosphere is kind of disturbing, actually..." Cass frowned, pulling her hood up over her head to protect herself from the snow.

The three girls probably would have seemed like images of delicacy if they hadn't been carrying weapons on them right then - in their pretty white coats and their innocent (ish) faces. Maybe. However, Cass seemed to just have dog-vision that day or something. Stepping over to look at a 'beware of dog' sign, she frowned.

"That's funny...I hear a dog in this yard..." she said, noting a very deep rumbling growl coming from around back, like something had spotted something it didn't like. Walking to try and circle the house as much as she could - without stepping into anybody's yards, a pair of familiar eyes glared back at her and Cass suddenly swore, bolting back to the other two girls.

"IT'S BACK." was all she said.

Candace shook her head. "Jordan said the house was abandoned, just filled with termites in every nook and cranny. And when I saw them there was a poltergeist at one place and a creature at another. No black dogs..." She didn't like it either. Something wasn't right.

At first Candace didn't notice Cass had wandered off, scraping some ash into the little baggie before putting it away in her bag. She didn't hear the dog Cass claimed to hear. What did he hear?

IT'S BACK.

Candace turned in time to see the snarling black dog leap easily over a fence, slowly stalking toward the three trainees with its teeth bared, its fur bristled and its shoulders raised in an effort to make itself appear larger and fiercer than it was as it lowered its head. It was pissed. "Shiiiiiitshitshit..good puppy...my what uh...a pretty coat you have..?"

They were so screwed.

"I..I hate to say this but I don't think we should fight it this time."

"We can't just leave it here! Those people!" Madison gestured sharply at the cabins around them. "Candace, didn't you say your weapon was fully charged? We can do this and then we can go back-"

The dog lifted its head and howled, the sound echoing across the forest. Then it lunged at Madison, jaws snapping, catching her up for moment as if she were a toy. For a moment, Madison couldn't breath under the sudden crushing pressure, but she had Kouki. She whipped one blade around and sunk it into one great furry jowl.

It released her with a canine scream, backing up to paw at its muzzle as black blood stained the new-fallen snow. "Come on," Madison repeated, Kouki glowing brightly in her hands. Her ribcage ached. Bruises, probably. She hoped.

"Let's take it down one more time, then get the hell out of here!" Cass said, ready to strike with Nicodemus again, however, she was beginning to notice that she was not hitting this thing as heavily as it hit her, sending her sprawling back before she popped back up to her feet again, coat torn through with the marks of the dog's claws from it swatting her away like she was a wet paper towel.

"Shiiittttt, I think we pissed this thing off." she swore. Her shield wasn't in the best of shapes either, to be honest, so it was going to make this entire mess a lot...messier, as it was.

Yet amidst this, Cass actually had the mind to pull out her phone and snap a picture of the thing in hopes it would help out later on the Mission report form.

"Was, past tense. I didn't think I'd be needing Atropos again so I unsummoned her; she isn't conducive for traveling on foot." Candace sighed, summoning Atropos again. There was a cheer in her head. Of course there was.

Cass was right though, they definitely pissed it off. She winced as it swiped at Cass and sent her flying, and especially so as it tried to eat Madison.

She wanted to get its attention off the two of them, which she succeeded in doing by literally kicking its a**. Yeah. Take that. She got a kick to the stomach for her effort.

Oh - of course, it would be hard to slog around wearing huge blades on your shoes. Madison silently thanked Kouki for being somewhat convenient, then jumped between Candace and the beast. It reared up, ready to stomp on them both, and indeed it did manage to clock Madison with one huge paw - but Kouki was ready.

With a flare of light, the serpent-sword released his charge of FEAR; all four swords rose up into the air and flew forward of their own volition, cutting deeply into the monstrous dog. It shrieked and scrambled backwards, sending up great gouts of mud and dirty snow.

"I got it." Cass said calmly as the blade in her hand began to trace out invisible runes on itself, filling with light as she tucked the into her ammo belt, moving forward with both hands on her weapon, shifted her weight and quite firmly shoved the blade into the beast.

For a moment, it almost looked like nothing had happened as the dog turned and began to claw at Cass to get her off of it.... and then light began to bleed through the wound, flooding out of the monsterous dog's eyes and mouth as it suddenly dissipated into a black haze.

Cass stepped back, massaging her shoulder and frowning.

"I think we should get out of here before it comes back again."

This one seemed easier to take care of than the last one. Thank the lord. Candace kept Atropos summoned this time, looking around with a glare for any sign of the damn thing reappearing again.

"Cass is right. It really doesn't look like there's much we can figure out here...we'll have to form reports off what we managed to get. Hopefully that was the last of that dog.." Hopefully but not likely. She glanced to Cass to see her massaging her shoulder and frowned, reaching out to give it a gentle squeeze. "You okay? I can give you a massage when we get back, if you want. I've been told I'm pretty good." Not a professional but good enough for aching shoulders. She agreed with the idea of leaving, though. Leaving sounded like a very good idea. "Besides, the snow is really starting to come down. We should leave before we get stuck here."

"It better not come back," Madison muttered darkly, wiping off Kouki's blades before sheathing them. "But yeah, totally agreed. Let's get out of here." She looked around at the scattered cabins and shivered. Maybe Tahoe wasn't so great after all. The falling snow was muffling everything even more, covering the forest in a blanket of silence and isolation.

"I hope the people who live here are gonna be okay," she added, with a sigh. Being a Hunter was all about saving other people, wasn't it? Had they saved these people, or was that freak just going to come out again after they'd left?

"It's fine. I just landed on it a little funny earlier." Cass said with a small smile to Candace, unsummoning her weapon. She didn't have any need to keep it summoned at this point if they were getting out of there - plus she'd used up Nicodemus's charged up energy as well. Still, Madison had a good point too.

"I hate to say it, but we might be recruiting hunters from this area in the future with how quickly that thing respawned - especially if people are already seeing it at this point." She frowned. However, she had to hope two deaths in a row would keep it from respawning again - at least in this area. Unless there was a place around here where those things could just..regenerate.

That was a thought, but Cass kept that to herself as she started to move back towards the portal they'd come in through.

Candace frowned with concern as Cass insisted she was fine. "Okay but..don't hesitate to ask for help if it doesn't seem to get any better, okay?" She was glad to be leaving, honestly. She wasn't dressed for snow, and there didn't seem to be any outstanding evidence around here aside from the presence of at least one black dog that kept regenerating itself. It was annoying as hell.

"I'm sure they'll be okay...the black dog seemed to be targeting animals, not people, which is unfortunate." Candace frowned, though she gave a soft chuckle at Cass' theory that hunters would come from this area one day. "Maybe. We'll see. Let's see if there's a way to keep an eye on this place when we get back, okay?" Candace gestured in the direction they had originally come from, where they had left the door. She then followed after Cass, unsummoning Atropos to make walking that much easier.

"Still... something ate my pet, if I had one, I'd be freaked out. And people aren't just going to keep buying new pets, I bet. Once there's no pets left..." Madison made a face. It was too easy to see it switching targets to children. "It's ******** up, is what."

Obvious statement was obvious.

She followed the others back through the portal, keeping Kouki's blades sheathed but with her hands resting on the hilts, just in case. Fortunately she didn't hear anything other than falling snow, but that was creepy too. She didn't have any experience with snow, but surely it didn't muffle everything? Sounds from inside houses and stuff?

Ugh.

"Yeah. I mean, a little freak-out is one thing, but not this s**t. This s**t goes beyond." Way the hell beyond. At least they had a portal out.

"Oh, definitely. We need to keep an eye on the area." if they were able to. If they ended up having to come back because a giant dog was eating children? Well..... she wasn't sure how she'd feel about that. Maybe the dog would go and spawn in a different location instead of around the Lake before that happened.

However, Cass could only look so convinced of what she was telling herself, even as she glanced at the houses they passed by. Was anybody even still around there at that time? It seemed like the birds* would have left the area for somewhere warmer by this point in time.

"It definitely is getting more and more grim." she frowned, even as the portal came into view to head back.
