The water had at least left Alex feeling damp and cool for a time, though his clothes were already beginning to dry off and felt humid against his skin. His hair was flattened to his head but would also likely be dry again soon so after running his hand through it a few times to scruff it back up, he began helping out where he could with the actual sandcastle building, keeping his comments to himself as his mood was deteriorating rapidly and he didn't think snapping on everybody would be very useful.
He took direction from anybody who gave it to him, and when Yin asked him to help Taryn build the defensive wall he got straight to work, knowing that time was of the essence and he should at least put in the best effort he could, even if it meant that he felt like melting into a puddle of rotting ooze right there on the spot.
After a while, he was finding it easier to ignore the heat, but he wasn't so sure that the smell of rotting flesh under that hot sun would be so easy for everyone else to ignore.
"When we're done, I might need to jump in water again." He tried to joke, forcing himself to smile even in this rough situation.

Taryn smiled at Alex and moved out of the way to begin building the inner castle proper. She rolled her sand dollar into the doorway and began to carve windows. "We all might have to," she nodded, "It's only going to get hotter." Which meant the zomboils on their team would get more... fragrant. She was determined to be polite, to focus on the smells of the sand and the ocean. She wasn't going to tell Alex he stunk. He had to know.
Seeing that the crab had skills in offense was... reassuring? Totally silly, but good to know that their 'guard' didn't take any s**t. She turned to Chuppi then and tilted her head.
"Well, you can help me built the turrets? This looks like suburbia right now," Taryn nodded. Hearing the reassurance from Yin had made her smile. After all, what was a leader without the approval of their team? "I'm not sure what they're going to do, nobody does, but I'm assuming we're going to have to keep our castle standing. Whether against other students or something else, I have no idea."

"T-Turrets?" Mort's mind jumped to the gun type, making him blink in surprise. Damn, Taryn was taking this seriously! To Alex, he gave a wavering smile. "Would join, er, i-if smell gets too bad. Maybe stench ward off enemies?"
He was trying to make an optimistic spin on a rather unfortunate truth: zombies really didn't prosper in the heat.
"Not sure what w-will attack, but maybe has four watching each side've castle, fifth watching sky?"

Actually, it was strange, but for the first time since she started working with everyone Chuppi finally noticed the smell of her undead companions. Perhaps it had been because she was excited about doing things, perhaps it was all the fresh air, but as she stood by Alex and Mort the chupacabra was growing keenly aware of the smell of decay. Since her kind were used to killing and eating things the rot wasn't too bad, it made her nose twitch, and without really thinking she swiped a hand across the tip of her face. It got sand up her nose and she sneezed, loudly, knocking herself back and forth before she toppled away from the sandcastle. It'd taken her a good bit of dexterity to not plow into it, only roll backwards, and as the sand cushioned her blow she wondered why the rest of the world wasn't made of such wondrous things.
"....lo siento." She tried to push herself back and managed to do so, though she stayed low and scuttled over towards the sandcastle. Looking at the rest of the group, she slowly started to pile sand together and just...shape it, somehow. Honestly she had no idea what a turret was but she figured if she got close enough then Taryn would let her know and perhaps praise her for it. "Um...has...anyone else looked at other groups? Do anyone thinks we should go and scout them out? Is that allowed?"

Yin was not going to argue against either zomboil heading to the ocean. The fact that the smell of rotting flesh was beginning to pervade his nose made him almost contemplate hauling one or the other down to the water and dunking them in himself. But now was not the time for that. He alternated between shoring up the wall around the castle and on putting sand on the inner building as well, knowing that tactically height was an advantage.
He considered Mademoiselle Temes' suggestion carefully. "While it may be advantageous, even if it is allowed we would lose a pair of hands if someone went to scout. If a scout is necessary I could go but I am not sure how much time is left." He picked up the strand of seaweed he had brought back and tried to drape it about, wondering how on Halloween it could be useful. Well, at least if nothing else he had brought back water, and that had seemed to be advantageous to the endeavor.

Alex continued to fortify the wall, sitting back once in awhile on his heels to inspect their work and rub the back of his hand against his forhead. Dark rotting blood, normally very congealed, was starting to trail down from the stitched up part of his neck, staining the collar of his shirt a very black red. He imagined his fear was having to work overtime at keeping his body from decomposing, and wondered how long it would be before this skeletal leg literally fell to pieces.
Everything was seeming to come together though, and he pushed himself shakily to his feet. "It looks..sturdy at least?" He commented, grabbing a piece of seaweed and just sort of...strewing it wherever. He had no idea what good it would actually do but it added a certain ambiance at least.
Whatever everyone else was smelling, Alex hardly noticed at all, though he knew it was worse then his usual stench, and perhaps eventually, especially with he and Mort combined, might verge upon the horribleness that was Alex's fear ability.
Nobody wanted that.

"We'll have to see how things go, but that sounds like a pretty good tactic," Taryn nodded. Unless everything was going to be marching in from a single direction, it was a very good idea. She then listened to Yin speaking to Chuppi, and nodded again. Her team was the best.
"Once the trial starts for real, then we might want to scout. It's pretty easy to just look down the beach, though," the ghoul reasoned. She did just that and almost immediately regretted it. The others seemed to have much more artistic skill... would that matter? She certainly hoped not.
As it went, the turrets were coming out more like lumps strewn with seaweed, therefore Chuppi's addition was entirely correct. With those finished, Taryn moved to help work on the wall, specifically creating a large front gate.
"Excellent." and then she had to breathe. She regretted it immediately. The chimera had to consider that they were in the human world, lacking Fear, and the boils were rotting. That... would be bad.
"I think we're nearly done, Alex, if you want to go for a swim... just be back if things start happening? You don't have to."

Scouting? That meant actually moving though . . . Graaaaa. He could've sworn he heard a bug fly into his chest cavity somehow - certainly Mort could begin to smell the scent of subtle decay turning into an outright stench of leftover meat. "Think i-if not bother them, won't bother us," he said, casting a glance at the nearby sandcastles. "Horseman trial will have us hands full, methinks . . . Better keep team here for full defense. Will stand guard with Snips at front gate."
And thus did the zomboil make his way by the twitching hermit crab, cracking his knuckles and wincing with each pop - just as long as the joints didn't come off or something . . .

"Mort if you are worried of smell, then maybe go swimming with Alex? It's a good thing and, as a monster, I can help aid Yin and Taryn if something is to happen." so far it looked as though everything was going to be calm, no one really needed to worry, and Chuppi patted the top of her turret mound and watched as some green leafy thing was strewn on the others. It didn't smell nice, in fact it smelled like wet and gross, and her nose wrinkled at the seaweed far more than it did at the decaying bodies of her friends. Maybe Chuppi just didn't like the smell of fish or anything from the sea? The lakes at Halloween at the very least didn't have salt so no smell, and the monster rubbed at her nose. "Though salting maybe help with the decay, I think. Salt is often used on dying foods to preserve them?
She was talking about embalming, or some vague knowledge of it. Since making undead friends she wanted to know more about them, or ways to help them, and so she read what she could and usually ended up making no sense in the long run. She really needed to pay more attention to facts and get them straight, not just say random things and hope for the best. "I...when helping to defend, I do not think I can shift my form while in this place to help with defense. I must say I am very sorry for that." Chuppi pushed herself up to her feet and dusted her hands and knees off before bowing her head in apology towards the others. She was still plenty strong in this false form, but Chuppi didn't know how she should prepare things if the really did need to save their sandcastle.

Well, Miss Taryn had said that it was fine to go, but Mort made an excellent point. The team should not be divided as their time dwindled. And Alexander took a rather long time to walk on the sand. He frowned for a moment, thinking before his eyes fell on the bucket. Of course. "Perhaps a swim right now would not be the best course of action," he said as he stood and grabbed the bucket. "I shall return momentarily."With that he took off toward the ocean, breaking into a nice loping stride until he was up to his ankles in water, not minding the wet considering how nice the day felt. He filled the bucket and returned at a more leisurely pace so as not to spill any of his cargo. He walked up to Alexander and held the bucket up. Now it would have made sense to just dump the bucket over, but they only had one bucket, and who knew if he would have time to get more? So he rather slowly poured the water on to try to get the zomboil evenly drenched. If there was anything gratuitous about it he would have been the last to know. Other than the obvious sense of satisfaction of getting to pour a bucket of water one's best friend (or special friend as the case may be). He belatedly remembered the other zomboil. Well, if Mort needed a bucket he had only to ask.

Alex listened to the comments of all of his team-mates, nodding first at Taryn, and saying "I don't know about going for a swim. I was thinking more of a quick dunk." Though the thought of Alex being quick at doing anything was, well, incredibly laughable.
He stood up from his spot on the ground, feeling more then a little shaky on his legs, so that he could have a better look at the castle itself, then down the beach at the other castles that had been constructed.
He also immediately regretted it.
Well, at least looks weren't always everything. As long as their castle could withstand whatever elements it was meant to withstand, then things should turn out alright.
"Don't worry, Chuppi, we'll all do what we can. I'm sure everyone's feeling a little less then themselves in this place." He forced a smile, but it quickly slipped from his face as he sank to the ground. He didn't even try to think about what she had said about salt helping with decay, or about trying to make it back to the water. He had used up what little energy he had on his first trip out their with Yin, and on helping to build this castle. This entire experience was horrible. Was this how Yin felt when he was in the cold? Alex certainly felt as though he might die out here.
Alex barely even noticed when Yin slipped off with the bucket. He just continued to sit in the sand underneath the glaring sun, in a bit of a dazed stupor. It wasn't until there was water being dumped all over him, slowly and over every part of his body, that he realised what was happening. Alex gasped then tilted his head back, only happy to be doused with the chilled water. When Yin was finished, Alex grinned at him, while small streams of water continued to run down his face from the hair that was now plastered over his eyes.
"Thanks!" He said, happy that the weremantis had been so considerate. It was only a small respite, however, and barely did anything for the smell.

((Entering from Team Fatal Femmes!
As a note, I'd really appreciate a quote if anyone replies, I am very distractible today and unlikely to notice otherwise. sweatdrop ))
Mitzi made her way down the path, glancing over the other sand castles and generally deciding in favor of her own team's. (No bias, clearly.) She was glad the island was small, as she'd already made her way about almost halfway around before she found Alex and Yin's team.
She waved as soon as she saw them, even though she was still a ways off, and jogged the rest of the way over. "Hey Alex, hey Yin, hey Taryn!" She thought she'd met the other two before, as well, but couldn't remember for sure. Thankfully the breeze was at her back, so all she could smell was sand and surf until she stepped off the path to come see their sand castle. She paused for a moment as the stench hit her, but continued at a walk once she realized it came from the two zomboils. "Looks like you have yours done, too."

[[Entering with a quest char/guest <3]]
Reiko had been floating about the various sandcastles when one in particular caught her eye. The onryo drifted over to it, but paused a few feet away when she noticed all the boils surrounding it and oh goodness the smell. Still, having paused, it would likely be rude to simply pass by, so she walked the rest of the way over, giving a polite bow to the group that had constructed it. "My, your castle looks lovely...and what a cute little crab protecting it."

Mort, who recalled the first visitor's face, waved a bit in return even if she hadn't called him by name - it wasn't as if he recalled hers either. "Mrrr . . . Will go visit others, be right back," he told the team before shuffling off and onwards. In passing, the onyro was given a small nod.
The hermit crab, Snips, stood to his proud several inches tall to survey the newcomers with suspicious black eyes. He would not leave his post, but by the rolling waves of the sea he was king of, no-one would destroy this castle!

Snips? ...Snips. Alright!
Taryn stood herself and brushed off her knees, head turning up as others began to approach. She still didn't like the idea of her own team wandering around, even if she would have liked to see if Joachim or Nefertari had a castle going. She said nothing, leaving it up to each particular member.
"Hello," she offered to Mitzi with a large grin, "It's nice to see you again!" She turned then to the other ghoul and nodded toward the retreating zomboil. "Thank you. Mort found him in the tidal pools. He's a bit snappy, though. I'd be careful." She didn't move much, standing with her fists protectively at her hips with the glorious Snips. Nobody was going to touch their castle. Nobody.
