Kouichi could feel his insides jump and his heart stop as the mare mentioned walkers and kalona. Had she somehow heard his thoughts? That was ridiculous. She probably just jumped to the conclusion that a person who was tough probably fought off a lot of things like that. He smiled weakly not finding his own argument very convincing. It was a coincidence. People couldn't read thoughts like that...but just in case she could he'd be more careful about where he let his mind wander.

"If that's all it was would there be a point in being a prince?" Kouichi countered finding his voice once again. "It would just be a pointless title then. I wouldn't want that." And honestly he didn't know anyone who would. No, that was a lie. He could think of a handful of soquili that would want nothing more than to live in the lap of luxury for the rest of their lives. That just wasn't something he wanted. His life needed purpose.

She eyed the princeling curiously , he seemed to have been surprised, she couldn't imagine from what, by now he should be used to her oddness, though she certainly hadn't seen any others like herself there were likely odd folks in this land as well!

" Hah, well, I suppose you are right" she tittered a little, her inky mane curling around as if sharing her small amusement. " Good, strive for better young prince, always do that." A small wrinkle appeared between her eyebrows as she concentrated on remembering all of this. " Others can be lazy if they wish" swept her tail across the ground with a eerie hushing sound. " But not you, and simply not I." She grinned sharply "So tell me of, your family" She flicked an ear " and details Kouichi, details. It's what makes a story decent to read, andespecially to tell." She tilted her head a bit " And just in case you're getting the...hmm, what do they call that? Ah! "willies" I assure you, I do not use stories for...malicious purposes." She purred.

Details. Always details. Bits of memory flashed in his mind. The echoes of screams. The phantom stench of blood. The fabricated warmth from a funeral pyre. His eyes narrowed as he tried to banish the past. All of these things were 'details' but they weren't things that should be shared. They weren't meant to be spoken of.

"My family is large." He said beginning his tiptoe around the events that had transformed the herd. There were plenty of details to be found without getting into that. "You know that already. I have more cousins, aunts and uncles than I can count. I have two moms a brother and a sister." He stopped, that wasn't any good. She was going to keep nosing with that little. "One of my mom's is a unicorn and the other is a kirin. My brother is pink and my sister is brown. Some of my aunts and uncles are part angeni! They have beautiful wings...and voices." Bodhisattva. Bodhi had been part of that family. She couldn't sing anymore. Nirvana too.

Kouichi shook his head. "Wouldn't you rather here some fun stories about training with Revyra?" He asked making an attempt at changing the subject. "One time we were practicing headbutting and I hit a tree so hard that I nearly knocked myself out!"

she watched his facial expressions carefully, she could easily see the shadow of something cross his face, something just under the surface that he was trying desperately to hide. Such things were the start of all stories, memories, the main fodder for any kind of story, the spice of interest.
But he obviously wanted to keep his memories to himself, so be it, he would come out with it when he was ready. She wasn't exactly patient, but she was patient enough if there was a good juicy story on the end of her hook.

" Large family, umm hmm, very nice" She questioned, as if she were a reporter getting a scoop. She smiled as he was beginning to catch her repetitive questions, it was a way to get them to sometimes forget they had answered such things and give her more information. " Ohh, royal siblings as well, very nice" she smiled " perhaps i might find them on my travels as well" she mused.
" One of your mom's?" She tilted her head at the odd statement " You were raised by various mares then? In this herd of yours? humm mm" She nodded, her inky mane swirling to form what seemed to be a group of ponies, a herd. " Angeni! goodness, that's certainly special" She curled her tail behind her " I have always looked for an angeni, I've heard many stories of such creatures, but have never had the pleasure of meeting one." She tilted her head at him as his voice cracked a little, speaking of these part angeni family members. " I see..." She said calmly, a swirling strand of ink forming into a flying horse, turning circles above her head and then melting back into the rest of it. It was safe to say something had happened with these winged family members.

She raised an inky eyebrow as he tried to go off on another story, something more light hearted. She saw he was disturbed by something, and even though she was rather persistent when it came to stories. Things had to "age" a while before they were ready to be told, so she let him off the hook. " Certainly" She replied smoothly, she chuckled politely at the image of such a proper stallion knocking himself out upon a tree. " I'm sure that smarted."

Kouichi nodded his head pleased that she had taken the new bait. The subject of training was somewhat easier to handle. There weren't as many sad times on the training field. It was always a good place for distraction because Revyra wouldn't train them if they were acting on emotional impulses. In battle you needed a level head when you were being influenced by feelings you weren't thinking clearly and that lead to mistakes. "It did but that wasn't the worst of the injuries I ended up with."

He thought back on all the long training sessions. "The first time we were trying swords I dropped mine and cut my ankle." He lifted his foreleg to show off where he had been wounded. It had been healed the day it happened by the herd healers and it left no scar but it was there. He could remember it. "Another time while Revyra was teaching me how to hide myself at nightfall I couldn't see where I was going and walked straight into a lake. I caught a fish on my tail. It thought I was dinner." He grinned. At the time he hadn't found it very funny. It was a big fish. Kouichi had been quite certain that it really was going to eat him that night.

Her in swirled about as she peered at his ankle, inspecting it curiously, though there was nothing there. " I see, even though you can't see it, you still have a memory of it, there WAS a nasty little wound there. " she clucked, much as a mother would, but for a different reason, perhaps she was mirroring what she thought his mother would do, one could never REALLY tell.
A smile tugged at the end of her maw at the thought of a prince walking into a lake, coming back all soggy and fishbitten. " Heh, sounds like you were very accident prone young prince." A stray gust blew through the trees, whistling through her scales, making a sound very akin to the turning of a hundred books.

"I suppose I was." He replied with a chuckle. "But that's how you learn right? You make mistakes and then you don't do them again." Or at least Kouichi figured that was how it was meant to work. He couldn't imagine what things would be like if you continuously made the same mistake repeatedly. The number of wounds Kouichi would have if that were the case was staggering.

His ears twitched at the unnatural sound the wind made over her. Somehow it sounded impatient to him but he was certain that it was just his own mind projecting. How much longer would she be content to stay away from the topics she wished to know? One way to find.

"What about you, were you accident prone too?"

She flicked her tail haughtily, not pleased by the detour he had played for her, but that was how it was for secretive folks, keeping quiet was of very little use to story collectors, sometimes you had to drag the stories out by force. But the last thing she wanted to do was get all mad at him for not wanting to share, she was still a stranger to the young prince after all. She inhaled a breath and then exhaled, calming herself. " I suppose that is true, you do learn from mistakes you make, but of course, it only takes one mistake to end it all. So sometimes it is best to try not to make any mistakes if you can help it." She shrugged, her scales rustling in protest. "Perfect practice makes perfect and all that."

She fixed him with a odd look " accident prone" she repeated, pondering it a bit " Well I believe that when i was younger, I had problems controlling where my ink went...i messed up many papers, poor things. A parchment is a terrible thing to waste." She pulled a face, truly lamenting leaving unruly ink spots over the nice clean paper. " Ahh but that's about it I think..."

Perfect practice makes perfect? Kouichi tilted his head to one side as he contemplated that statement. Could you practice perfectly if you had to first practice practicing perfectly and so on and so forth? That was definitely a very loop statement but it made sense considering the source. She seemed like a very loopy individual if her hair was any indication of what lay deep inside. He would probably never see what was deep inside of her though as she seemed about as keen to answer questions as he was.

"You messed up paper?" He asked blinking owlishly. "And that was it?" Well that seemed awfully lucky to Kouichi. He assumed that paper was the rustling stuff she was coated with. Getting ink on that seemed awfully harmless when compared to the many broken bones he had nearly obtained over the years. "I wish that was all that had happened to me." He said laughing. "Was that really it? It would be nice to have your kind of luck!" Though maybe not her life. Her life sounded like it could be pretty dull in comparison if making a mess with ink was all that had happened. Was there nothing wild where she came from?

Inkling smiled sharply, amused at his surprised line of questioning. " Why yes, suppose you had scales, and that they were made of a substance similar to the parchment two leggers use to make those fascinating little tomes called books." Her hair illustrated as she spoke " Well many want to see these stories I have written on MY scales, which gets difficult, as i'm sure you can imagine." She hissed in amusement " Messing up that " paper" gets mighty costly when you have a finite number."
she coughed "So making any mistakes on real paper is, well, simply irking, i would hate to have that happen on my scales, an ink blot would show up mighty well on my coat, believe you me."

She stared at him, her gray eyes laughing " other things have happened to me in my life, though you may indeed call them "mistakes" It has never occurred to me that they were anything more than hoof pebbles on the road to the mountain of life. Yours sound like hoof pebbles, very very tricky hurty hoof pebbles." She chuckled.

When she put it that way Kouichi could see why that might be a bit of a problem. However, that did present an interesting question. "Surely there must be a way to remove the ink." He said wrinkling his nose slightly. If there was one thing that he had learned it was that eventually, with enough soaking and rubbing, any sort of stain would come off. If her hair was really ink then he could discern that it was some kind of liquid much like dark berry juice. It would stain, yes, but if you waded into the water it would fade and eventually vanish all together. It was a decent solution to the problem. It might ruin her other scribbles but surely she could redo them.

"Have you ever tried bathing to get it off? Do...you bathe at all?" He did his best not to wrinkle his nose further as a new thought dawned on him. What if she didn't bathe? What if she had naturally been white and her color now was created by years of sweat and dirt building up? Surely that would smell quite foul and he hadn't noticed any strong odor emitting from the mare.

"Sorry." He said after a while. "That was rude." He should have never asked such a thing but somehow he hadn't been able to stop the words from bubbling out.

She pondered this for a second " Remove it...I've never tried, it seems like a silly thing to do, especially for someone like me." She turned her neck in a very serpentine fashion to peer at all of the inky scrawlings over her many scales " My ink is special I suppose, a part of me. if i do not like something that scale will eventually come off when i shed and will be replaced by a new one." She snorted her eyes becoming hard and flinty " Of COURSE I bathe, I am not a heathen, I prefer not stinking, as does every decent creature I believe. If it were so simple to remove the ink I would have no stories I could save that way would I? noooo~" She shook her head, her inky mane swirling restlessly " It's fine~ Such questions beg to be answered and they shall, some questions need answering, and souls go out to seek the answers, that also makes stories."
