A slightly raised eyebrow was all the response he really offered to her always looking for someone. That could mean that she's a wanderer, or it could just be a cryptic way of her revealing that she is indeed a hunter. Regardless of what it truly meant, he had solidified it in his mind that while she could be considered prey to him and those colder than him, she was a predator. She was a lion walking among deer in this forest.

"No," Another frustratingly short answer perhaps, but it was as simple as that. He and Ariadne loved each other, but he was not quite ready to bring up the subject of having little ones. That being said, they haven't really talked about it directly, so in truth he did not know exactly what Ariadne had to say about the subject... perhaps he would bring it up when he got back to her. Probably a good thing to begin to think about. After all, he was sure raising foals couldn't be that difficult.

Grauen tilted her head, did she detect a flicker of something? Not fear exactly, but a kind of...uncertainty... At last, a way in if she was careful. She shifted her weight gently and then glanced over at him. How best to mount an attack now? To wittle away at his demeanor without pushing it too far?

"Aww, not blessed to have them yet? They're not for everyone..." She let her voice trail off. "Some soquilli just can't have any. I'm sure that she won't be disappointed in you," she offered conversationally. "I've raised a few foals myself. There's not feeling like molding a foal into an adult. It's so very...rewarding."

Lifting his head higher, his short tail flicked back and forth a few times as he listened to her speak. What did she mean? Well, of course he could definitely identify a few soquili that should never be allowed to raise foals, but that didn't exactly seem like the same thing that the mare was implying. She seemed to be saying something might be... wrong with him. What would that be? How could something be wrong with him enough to not allow him to have little ones? Not like he needed to host their growing bodies anyway, he had the easy end of the deal. What could he possibly do wrong there?

His curiosity surprisingly won out over not wanting to divulge anything to the mare. Cautiously but evenly he asked her, "We haven't talked about it. Why can't some have them?" He was never good at making his statements clear, but it's not like the conversation had many subjects to it. He looked Grauen up and down, as if in a new light. She had raised a few foals? If it were him, he would have them out hunting with him... but hers? They were no where in sight. This lead him to believe that she may indeed be lying to him.

She could see the curiosity battling behind his eyes. It would win out in the end, all she had to do was wait. For a moment, she could see that he was still uncertain and then the question.

Composing the lines of her face into more sorrowful lines, she began to explain. "Well...there are certain males who can't get...the job done. They're...broken or something. It's nature sign that maybe they're not a good father..." She looked sad, "I mean it's not necessarily that for you. It could be her or you...or both."

She closed her eyes a moment before opening them again, "Yes. I've raised a few foals. Some long past foalhood now and some grown mostly, but still close by. I'm a very...good mother."

The more the mare spoke the less and less Rainart believed her. She was calling him incompetent, broken even. No, this would not do. His limbs began to feel tingly and his mouth crept up to something of a snarl. By the time she proclaimed herself a good mother he was baring his teeth, eyebrows bent in an angry furrow. She was not pushing the right buttons anymore.

"You lie." He nearly spat the words out as if they were rotten meat. He decided that not a word from this mare was to be trusted. (How)"Dare insult me?" The draft lowered his head some so that his bright blue eyes glinted through the dense skull mask upon his face. As if the long-dead owner of the skull was staring the mare down. His breath began to come in deeper gulps, controlled but readying for the purpose of expelling it with a strike should the need arise. He strode with heavy stomps until he was standing nearly overtop of the mare, barrel-chest rippling with muscle. He did not take kindly to someone trying to use him. An angry snort from his flaring nostrils began the rest of his accusation. "Do not lie to me, huntress. Will not be used by you, or any other. Heed this warning." One wrong move and he would not hesitate to throw himself at this beguiling huntress. To trick or lie to Rainart was one of the highest offences. He would not tolerate such behavior from those he respected, let alone some passing stranger.

She could feel the anger welling off of him. It was almost over-whelming in it's onslaught of her. He was standing over her, intruding in her space... Too bad she didn't have a bulldog sort, she'd have to put that on her to do list. Need one big, bulky male to groom to her standards. Check.

She could feel her eyes glowing, her coat moving very subtly. Was that a hint of fear? Sometimes, she could feed off the rage of others too. But it felt something like that...

Careful. Very careful. She could fight if need be though it wasn't her preference. "I have not lied," she spoke coolly. "I have raised foals. Many of them." Just not her own. "And it is true, there are problems that prevents stallions and mares from having foals. Not necessarily you, I wouldn't know about that now would I You're not inviting are you? That would be highly inappropriate, I should think."

She stared up at him, waiting to see what he thought--what he planned to do. She'd in no way disarmed him, but she'd come somewhat clean. Really, it didn't matter. It was all just....so amusing.

But then, big dumb brutes were always amusing. And so much of the world was that way in relation to her. Her eyes glowed brighter as she watched him.

His warm breath came out in even, steady snorts. Controlled, very very controlled. Rainart stood over her as she tried to explain herself, but the deed was done. Though she had stopped lying and stopped his dislike of her from growing much more, it did not erase what had been done. She would never be trusted, never have his help or his strength on her side.

He let her speak, but as she implied him being inviting a genuine look of disgust came over his face. Who would want to lie with a liar? That was just... unimaginable to Rainart.

Shaking his head lightly, he took a step back trying to get the nauseating image out of his mind. Low and grumbling, he replied with a bite of venom in his words, "Don't flatter 'self." He took a few more steps back before slowly turning his side to the mare. He paused before moving on his intentions of leaving, "No one is invulnerable. Can find you mare, wherever you go." And with that he had had enough of this mare. He figured he should go before he lost his breakfast. Bringing his pace up to a trot he threw a single caution over his shoulder,

"Remember."

And with that he was off. He didn't look back, but he wasn't running either. He knew the area well enough, and he would still be careful to make a false trail in case she chose to follow him, but he had no worries of the huntress. He didn't think she would prove to be a danger to him, at least not for the foreseeable time. There was easier prey to be had. But one could never be too careful.

Grauen could feel the anger rolling off of hi like waves of heat. She had made him very, very angry. She wanted to laugh at him, she wanted to mock him but she left him be. Let him think he'd won. Let him retreat and think he had the last word--she knew better.

Remember.

Oh, she would and one day he would see that. One day, she'd make it her mission to to make him feel scared. She'd make him suffer, but for now...Oh, for now it was best to let sleeping dogs lie.
