Beloved Stargazer

Riddles, hm ? So that was how that game went... Well, it seemed obvious that he would not have gotten a straight answer, at any rate.

Hn. The dragon did pause a moment to think, before he finally did venture forth with his guess. "An hourglass. The two halves are joined in the middle, and the sand within runs without the hourglass itself moving at all."

He certainly hoped he was right, if only because he had seen it as a challenge.

"Correct." She grinned. "I suppose that earns you something. Hn...but what to give..."

The goddess paused to consider her options for a few moments before answering. "My name is Tien." The rest he would figure out eventually one way or another; whether it was by being on the receiving end of a prank or not remained to be seen. "So...your turn to spill a secret?"

"Well met then, Lady of Many Names." Tien, then. There was some amusement. Tien and Tien Lung...

But, ah, that was neither here not there. To not withhold his part of the bargain would be quite dishonorable.

"Spread your wings, first. You need to learn how to move them before you can even think of taking off."

She bent her head and lifted a forepaw, a gesture that was intended to be somewhat of a bow. 'Many Names' could be said of all the gods, but Tien was one who made good use of hers. At least she thought so.

Wings. It was a starting point that made sense. Trickery had taken her own for granted thus far in this life as they were too small to be of use. The only purpose they served was the occasional, and sometimes unintended, expression of emotion. She extended them as asked, flexing and moving them experimentally.

Really, it was too bad the best teacher happened to be wingless. He could have made her one of the best swimmers, perhaps, but flight...

Well, he could fly and not collide with any buildings, and that would probably be enough for Tien's purpose, through he was left to try to decode how he did instinctively fly if only so he could explain it.

"Yes, good." He nodded. looking much like an elder dragon fussing after a wyrmling. A sight perhaps commonly seen in the old times. "Well, much of it is instinct for me, but... Spread them, then push the air down. A running start and jumping will help you take off if you need it, and if you have the space. It will probably be quite tiring at first, so I would avoid long distances for now."

Flying as a biped was probably very different, but... Well, he'd never even attempted that. "Did that make sense ?"

"It does make sense, doing it however...guess we will have to see." Tien doubted she could hold this shape and fly a lengthy distance at this point, later perhaps when her power had grown. Right now it was tiring just to remain in this shape for a handful of hours.

Trickery turned to give it a try, dashing off a ways before jumping up into the air and managing to fly a short distance before abruptly crashing back into the grass. "Better than expected...but...ouch." She shook her head and snorted. "Probably does not help that I have to think about using my wings." Something which was second nature to Xun, no doubt.

Well, that actually looked promising... Up to the point where Tien tumbled down, through. Uh oh !

At least they were here, in the gardens, and the grass was soft. It would have undoubtly been worse if there had been concrete underneath.

"Are you alright ?" He still asked, once he had caught up with her. Yes, he was fussing. No, he did not seem to realize that he was fussing.

"It probably does not, no." Tien was right on that - all the motions were instinctive to him. "It will probably get easier with practice ?"

Tien stood after a moment and shifted from foot to foot experimentally, checking for any sign of injury. Thankfully she found none. "Seem so." She cracked a smile. "Could have been worse, I might have ended up landing in a fountain or something." Like hitting a tree perhaps? Now that really would have hurt.

It was not until then that she noticed Xun was fussing over her. She laughed and couldn't resist the urge to tease him a little. "So, I am a little wyrmling to look after now?" Tien was not really bothered by it, the notion was just amusing.

"That would certainly be unpleasant." Not that he had yet to do such a thing, thankfully, but it did not take rocket science to figure out that such a thing would hurt, even if a god was the one crashing into things.

Her last comment, through... Mobile ears flicked a bit, tail gave a bit of a slow lash. While dragon form proved good to mask his emotions in his face, well, the embarrassment was visible enough either way, as he forced himself to step back, give the goddess-in-dragonskin space. "Perhaps. It seems instincts are not so easily restrained, sometimes."
PostPosted: Sat Mar 03, 2012 4:45 pm

"Well, such things are not meant to be restrained." His expression was indeed amusing, however, she hadn't expected to embarrass him quite so much. "It is alright, do not trouble yourself over it." She wouldn't mention it anymore, for a while at least. Her tail swished back and forth lazily through the grass. "I think I might like flying, once I get a handle on it."

"I do enjoy it, through I enjoy swimming more." Unsurprising, given who was speaking the words. As far as he knew, Ti Lung was the best swimmer among his brothers, much like Tian Yue was likely the most talented at flight, with Zhijian being the fastest, no matter the element.

"The motions are similar, but it is very different. Air does not flow the way water does." It was harder to push his coils through air than through water, in a way.

"I'll stick to swimming in my normal shape, it sounds far safer, for me at least." The thought of her trying to manage the task with four legs, when walking had given her so much trouble. No thank you! It was far easier just to strip and dive in. Still, it didn't surprise here that Lifewater preferred swimming to flying, after all what sort of water dragon would he be if he didn't revel in his element.

Oh, he liked swimming in both shapes, of course, but he was definitively better at it in scales. And flying, well, was out of question in his more mortal-like guise. While the wings of dragon form were properly sized to be able to carry him in flight, the same could not be said of those same wings in his other form, who were much smaller.

Thankfully so, or else he expected getting through tight spaces like doors that were not made for the shape of deities in mind would be.. interesting.

"If you decide to ever give it a try..." He said, giving a draconic grin. Well, he'd definitively be willing to teach that, too.

"One day, maybe. One thing at a time is best for this little wyrmling."

Well, perhaps it was time to try this flying business again. She trotted away from Xun to make another attempt. This one went a bit better, actually managing to fly a little distance but still crashing into the grass. She was starting to grasp the rest somewhat, but clearly her landing needed work.

When it became obvious that Tien was going for another shot, Ti Lung rose from his crouch and followed on ground level, keeping close attention to her landing.

Yeah, that was still more of a crash than anything else, but now he saw more clearly what was doing wrong. "You need to stretch your legs." He said. "Keep them stable enough so that they support you as you land. It looks like you are just following the forces and your knees buckle when you impact."
