Rikki didn't seem to know what to do with himself. When she dropped everything, he seemed to go into a panic and flail around it for a minute, before finally occupying himself with picking up the kingyogiri and holding it like a baby. At least he could protect the one gift that was actually living. Poor baby.
"I...you... we..." He took a deep breath, frustrated with himself. When his thoughts were in sufficient order, he started over. "You weren't horrible to me. I was horrible to you. I said something awful that I didn't mean, and then instead of trying to make things right I left for a week." He rubbed the kingyogiri's little front paw between his fingers and avoided Danny's gaze for the most part, but what he had to say next was important enough for him to force himself to look her in the eye, no matter the awkwardness. "I'm sorry. I don't want us to be broken up. I want you to be my ghouldfriend again. Please?"

Danny took a step back. Everything she'd believed to this point had been utterly flipped on its head. Here she had come, braced to find the truth that Rikki had really moved on and found another ghoul, and yet here he was mumbling that he wanted her back.
Which, she really jackin' wanted. She really jackin' wanted. While Rikki was gone, he was utterly all she thought about. Was he okay, was he waking up on time, was he safe, where was he- it never stopped. To be Rikki's again was quite literally everything she wanted.
... And yet ... she couldn't shake the feeling that it wasn't time. She wasn't comfortable with it, something was still telling her no. When he looked up at her with that sincere look in his eyes, all she could think was how scared she was. "I ... I don't know," she said, realizing this for the first time. She really didn't know if she could be his ghoulfriend again. "Can ... Can you give me some time to think about it?" She bit her lip. "Like a week maybe?" Dear Jack why was this so scary.

It felt like his heart was shattering again, but he kept his poker face in place. He didn't let her see that her hesitation was like a fine fissure in his composure that would send him crumbling when she said no. Instead he pressed his lips together, hugged the minipet closer, and nodded. "Yeah. Yeah, I can do that."
He shuffled his feet, looking down at the floor. This... wasn't working like he had planned. Percy hadn't said that she would need time. How was he going to handle waiting a week? "Take this stuff though. It's all yours. Especially this little guy." He held out the minipet, praying she would take it. If he could just get her to keep the things to remind her of him. At least then he'd have a chance.
"And you keep that pin. Even if you decide not.... even if this doesn't work out. I'll always have your back."

Danny's heart felt tugged in two directions. Here he was, offering everything, and she couldn't even say yes. Her mouth felt dry, and her hands were clamped fiercely to her side.
She needed something though. She grabbed the minipet from his hands, and pulled him up with the other. Danny's free arm snaked around his backside, curling up towards his shoulders. She pressed her head into his shoulder and said, "I know. I know you will. I'm so sorry Rikki-" What else could she say? Sorry I'm such a coward? Sorry you broke my heart once and I'm scared you'll do it again?
The minipet flopped in her arm, and she snuggled it a little closer. Disconnecting from Rikki, she said, "I'll see you later, okay?" What a lame a** farewell. She felt horrible as she walked towards the door. Her arms were filled, but she felt like they were completely empty. She was forgetting the most important part.
She didn't dare turn around to look at him, and she slipped out the door. Once outside, she stared at his emblem, biting her lip again. For a moment, she actually thought about getting rid of it. Just dropping it there and being done with it. She shook the thought from her mind immediately. That was unthinkable. She shoved it in her pocket and headed towards her dorm.
