"Are you your grandmother or your mother?" Shun asked, "If they had also beheaded their spouse in the name of love to wear their skulls as a helm, would you do it too? Because it is 'the way?'"
That was a little bit of an extreme example, but he didn't really have something to pull from his own personal experiences to use here. As far as family went, he really only knew his father.
Though, it seemed that something somewhere had struck Hel dumb. Quietly, he stared back, waiting to see what she would say.

Hel’s cheeks puffed out as Shun decided to use the ‘are you’ logic on her. Well, obviously she wasn’t but…family traditions and expectations weren’t just easily tossed aside. The valkyrie opened her mouth to protest but then looked terribly horrified at the example the grim used.
“WHAT!?” She cried. “NO! I would never do that! That is crazy! We are valkyries, Shun, not Barbarians!” Though really, they might as well have been the same thing in Hel’s case.

"Would you still feel that way if it were tradition?" he asked coolly.
Shun placed his hands into his pockets, glancing up towards the night sky for the moment.
"Regardless of the traditions, you are your own person. Getting married for the sake of getting married is a little ridiculous. I have some doubts that Mot is ready for such a thing. Not many of us at this age are."

“I do not think it is fair to ask that, seeing as how I did not grow up with it!” Hel’s brows furrowed.
“It is not getting married for the sake of getting married.” She muttered before letting out a sigh and looking up at the sky again as well. “Ya, I know he is not ready.” Hel’s tone took a bit of a turn. “But he says at Scarentine’s Party that we will be wed by morning, and then he takes it back.” The reaper crossed her arms and huffed.

Shun ran his hand through his hair, shaking his head.
"Then you were a fool to believe such a thing. Scarentines was a very strange time indeed. The connotation that anyone would suddenly be wed by morning with out any sort of preparation is ridiculous," he frowned.

There went Shun, popping all her bubbles. While Hel was certainly not appreciating it…this would definitely help her in the long run. Even if she didn’t see it at this point in time.
She just looked at the grim flabbergasted. Like…how could he say that!? Easy, it was Shun, and double easy he was right. She just stared at the grim for a long moment, looking like she wanted to protest that…but alas, no words could come to mind. So Hel just shut her mouth and looked back up at the stars again, with her cheeks puffed out. Whether it had been under weird circumstances or not, it still did hurt to have that flaunted in front of her face and than snatched away.

Seeing how Hel had nothing to say, Shun looked back to the stars as well, letting the silence roll on. He'd let that sink in for her before doing anything else. Though, it was a bit strange to him that Mot would toss that out there. Even so, he wouldn't put stock anything like that if it were just said what seemed to be on a whim.
Maybe the cowboy had been intoxicated at the time. That could potentially explain it.

The conclusions Hel could come to when she actually gave it some time to think about it (and a nudge in the right direction, like from Shun in this case).
“…So…I should just let it go then, huh?” She didn’t sound particularly pleased about this but…the topic seemed to be like beating a dead horse with a stick. Meaning, it wouldn’t go anywhere, anyways. Not with Shun, and definitely not with Mot. Hel sighed, frowning now.

"For now. Yes. There is no rush. Or do you feel so insecure in your relationship that you feel the need to have such a thing?" Shun replied while looking towards the Valkyrie. Was that the real reason why she desired a more tangible bond of sorts? The Reaper eyed Hel a little critically as he thought about this.

Shun’s next words hit her hard, whether she realized it or not. Honestly, it wasn’t a thought that had been at the forefront of her mind…but now that the grim had just tossed it out there in the magical way he always does, Hel was second guessing herself. Insecure. No, she was not insecure. So she liked to tell herself…but let’s face it. She was. She just put on a really good bravado, that’s all.
Once again she was silent, having nothing to say. Not confirming the words…but not denying it either.

Shun raised his eyebrow at Hel, noting her silence. It was hard to tell exactly what was going on in her mind there. Either way, he didn't say anything either. Silence wasn't something that typically bothered him and all. He was usually fine with periods of quiet when talking.
Instead, he just sat himself down onto the roof. It was kind of a nice spot really. There was little wonder why Hel had chosen a location like this to chill.

Hel…couldn’t say anything on the subject. She honestly felt like a jumbled mess at the moment. Two toned hands reached up to rub at her face as she let out another sigh. The ghoul glanced over at Shun briefly as he took a seat nearby. “…I think I lost my focus.” She started on a new tangent.
“...Do you ever feel like that?”

Bringing his knees up, Shun idly let his arms rest onto them as he waited quietly and patiently for Hel to say whatever.
"I'm not really sure I understand your question," he said while looking towards her. Yes, he had lost focus at times literally. Distractions during training and whatnot. But he had a feeling she was referring to something a little different and he wasn't really sure what it meant.

Damn. Shun was pretty good at figuring her out thus far…but now she’d have to elaborate. Hel didn’t usually like to talk about how she felt but…the beauty about Shun? He didn’t care all that much. He took it, assessed it, gave input, and then let it go.
Hel folded her hands behind her head, and stared up at the moon. She remained silent for a bit longer, flicking her feet back and forth. “…I came here for a reason. To be the best.” She paused. “…Then…things happened.” Like the field trip…a real eye opener. “…I lost my focus.” She still wanted to be the best…but she didn’t know at what.

The Reaper took this in, quietly thinking it over.
"Are you certain of that? Things may not always be as they seem. Or do you not hold the same goal as you did before?" he asked while raising an eyebrow. Hel explained a little more just now, but she was still leaving out a number of details.
