Sterling felt the warmth of the sun as he listened to what the mare said. He could hear her sigh of relief and wondered if he had worried her with his snort. When she started talking about how her father's chosen was the duke, he let out a gentle laugh.
"Well, let's see, the cabin is probably a good half a day's travel from the castle. As for Dea, yes, she knows the king quite well and actually knows your father's chosen. You see, my chosen is married to the brother of the duke. So you could say my friend is related to your father's chosen. It really is a small world sometimes. As for your mother, you shouldn't worry about meeting the king, he is quite a gentle person. He truly cares about all of his people, human and Azrein alike,"Sterling explained.

[[ Oops. I was mistaken. It's Dark Ion (her uncle) that is bonded to the Duke, not her daddy. I'll make the correction. >.< ]]
Blinked a few times as she tilted her head. "Oh dear...I believe I made a mistake. Father and Uncle sound so much alike sometimes..." Tempest gave a sigh shaking her mane from her face wanting to feel the wind against it. "Actually, Father doesn't have a chosen yet. It is my uncle, Dark Ion, that is bonded to the Duke. It's probably one of the reasons why I haven't met him yet." She gave an apologetic laugh shaking her head a little. "But either way, it is a small world. It's a quite interesting small world, too. Y'know, since we're both blind. Heh..." The mare giggled a little flicking her tail as she stretched her neck enjoying the sun. "One of these days I'll eventually meet a human." She turned her head toward Sterling's direction, or so she thought, her ears flicking forward as she listened for his voice.

Sterling chortled lightly as he heard Tempest admit that she had mixed up her uncle and her father. He knew that was an easy mistake to make, since he had mixed people up before himself, at least when he was distracted he did. He listened to the birds in the trees for a moment, before he decided to speak again.
"It's alright, we all make mistakes, present company included, in fact. Just the other day I accidentally called Al, Dea's husband, Ed, his brother's name. Normally I wouldn't have made such a mistake, but I had been very hungry and been thinking about food. I hadn't been paying to the inflection of the voice as I usually would be to tell who it was. Dea said it was no big deal, that mistakes happen, but I must admit, at the time, I was very embarrassed. As for we both being blind, I must say, I didn't think I would meet someone who was also blind. I also assure you, one day you will get to meet a human, even if I have to help you do that myself,"Sterling assured.

Tempest didn't feel that bad anymore as Sterling reassured her. She immediately felt the flush of her cheeks disappear and a smile form on her lips. Her nostrils flared as she gave a bit of a laugh. "Oh I'm glad I'm not the only one. I mean I know others make mistakes but I feel like it's a lot worse if you're blind, y'know?" She tilted her head in thought for a moment, her ears flicking to hear the sounds around her. "Haha. You must think with your stomach when you hear the name Ed. He does give out such good treats though!" Tempest whickered thinking about the sugar cubes he would bring home to the family - and that was a lot of family.
It didn't surprised her that Sterling didn't think he would ever meet someone who was blind. Indeed Tempest herself thought it a myth that she wouldn't be able to find anyone like her at all. However, it was a pleasant outing and one that she would hope to recreate as much as possible. What did surprise her, however, was his conviction on helping her meet a human. "Sterling, that's quite sweet of you. But I wonder...why would you want to help me?" The mare flicked her tail as she gave a gentle snort more so in question than annoyance. "I mean...why would you want me to meet a human so badly? Is it because I want to?" That was a question more to herself than Sterling, but maybe he could help her answer it.

Sterling gave a hearty laugh as he mentioned that Ed usually had some really good sugar cubes. He nodded his head softly, knowing he always loved when Ed would bring sugar cubes for them when he came for a visit. He was always glad the man didn't forget the Azrein members of the family.
"Yes, I must admit, Ed does tend to find some really delicious sugar cubes for us. I guess that might have been why I had accidentally said his name instead of Al's when I was hungry. Or it could be that they are brothers, so sound a little the same when one is not paying attention. I just appreciate how kind they are, always looking out for the humans and Azrein alike,"Sterling admitted. Then he tilted his head a little as she asked why he would want to help her meet a human. He pondered this question for a moment, trying to formulate an answer in his head.
"Well, I suppose I want to help you meet a human partly because you want to do so. It is also because I want more of our kind to see how wonderful humans really are, that only certain humans are really mean. I think humans are similar to our kind, just with their own ways as well,"Sterling replied.

Tempest laughed along with him, her ears perked forward as he spoke. His voice was...very enchanting for one which was strange to her. But she gave a quick nod as if to try and elaborate her comment, "Yes! I swear it must be by magic. Uncle always brings back a bag to share with us saying they are from the Duke. I try to keep mine for as long as I can!" She felt her pelt bristle with excitement at the thought of her next sugar cube.
As he spoke about the similarities of the human brothers, Tempest couldn't help but compare to azrein families. Maybe Sterling was right. The only difference between them were species. There were good and bad azrein, and there were families of azrein and lone azrein just like humans had their good and bad, and their families and lone selves. Her ears flicked a little as she remained in thought before his voice broke it. "Well...that's very noble of you, Sterling. I guess you must be the spokesperson for azrein and human bondings, huh?" Dark Tempest gave a giggle before calming down. "But I think that's a really good thing, Sterling. I truly believe we can live in a world where we co-exist. I only wish others could see like you do..."

Sterling looked thoughtful for a moment as he tail swished lightly behind him. He remembered how Dea used to say he would make a good ambassador for relations between the humans and the Azrein. He always just brushed it off, since he always felt Dea and the rest of their family was the real ambassadors.
"It's funny you should mention that, Tempest, because my chosen has told me I would make a very good ambassador for our people and her people. I don't know, I sometimes get stage fright and find myself unable to speak in front of others. As for me being so good around humans, it's because Dea pretty much raised me. I never knew my biological family, so Dea took care of me since I was born pretty much. Same for Serenity, Dea's first Azrein,"Sterling explained to her.

"Well I believe Dea is right. I think you should." The mare gave a bit of a giggle, her tail flicking behind her. "You shouldn't get stage fright because you don't get stage fright around me, and I am a stranger! I think you have a strong voice. You should at least try." She gave a brisk nod, pawing at the ground loudly as if to reaffirm her statement.
"Oh wow. No wonder you have such a strong bond. You must love her like a mom then. I can't imagine not having my parents and brother..." Tempest trailed off wondering what it would have been like for her to be raised by another azrein or even a human like Sterling. It couldn't be so terrible because Sterling didn't turn out so bad himself. "Serenity has a pretty name. I'm sure you get to mingle with a lot of azrein and your humans at home. You seem so happy!" Tempest commented mostly to herself as she gave a light laugh.

Sterling gave a soft whinny of delight, glad to hear that she thought he should at least try. Maybe he would try, it was at least something for him to think about at least. As she mentioned Dea, he smiled softly, since he did kind of consider her like a mother or a sister.
"Well, I suppose I don't get stage fright with you because I just feel a connection to you. I guess you can call me crazy, but it is almost like you grew up together, that's how comfortable I feel around you. As for Dea, yes, she is like a mother or a sister to me. I do get to interact with a lot of Azrein, considering how my chosen knows the king and is kind of like a jill of all trades. She seems to wear many different hats,"Sterling laughed. He couldn't imagine what life would be like if he had not been raised by Dea and Al.

"Really? Like we grew up together? That's quite a connection, Sterling! But...y'know maybe you're right. I don't feel so bad when I'm around you. It's...very peaceful." She felt herself blush a little as she just admitted her feelings to a stallion she barely met. Her ears flicked a little as she gave a bit of a grunt. "Dea sounds really talented. I'm sure you being raised by her was quite the perk."
Dark Tempest gave a start as she heard a noise. Her head turned into the direction of the sound. She quickly recognized it and gave a sigh. "Mother is calling me home. Coming, Mom!" Tempest called back to her mother, her voice carrying quite loudly with the winds. She turned back to Sterling with a grin. "I guess I'll talk to you later?"

Sterling smiled softly, glad to know the other felt the same way he did with the connection. It seemed they both felt comfortable around one another, which made him extremely happy. As she said her mother was calling, he nodded his head to her.
"I don't know when we will see each other again, but I am sure we will certainly meet again. For now, I suppose we will just go our separate ways and hope for the best. Good-bye, Tempest, I cannot wait until we see each other again. Take care and I hope that things will go well for you,"Sterling told her gently.

Tempest looked over to the direction of Sterling as he said his good-byes. She whickered her own in reply giving a gentle snort before she turned and started back toward the herd listening to her mother's guiding voice. Maybe she would run into Sterling again. Dark Tempest decided that she would like that. He was a good stallion to talk to and he did make her a promise.
Maybe one day then.

With his ears perked, Sterling listened to the receding footfalls of his new friend as she left. When he was sure she was gone, he bent down to taste a few of the clovers, the whole reason he had come over here in the first place. He couldn't wait to see Tempest again, but for now, he knew he needed to head home. He had to use his senses to figure out which direction to go, then he started trotting in the direction of the cabin where they were temporarily staying.
