A little surprised by the look he was giving her, the smile on her own face turned to one of confusion, her stroking hand along the baby Peldin slowing once more, "Have I.. said something wrong..?" she asked hesitantly. Before there was a chance for her to think more on the matter, or even get an answer, a third voice suddenly piped up, making her straighten right up. Who was that? Looking around, she saw no other.. no one besides themselves. Her moths picked up on her distress, and fluttered around her like a tornado, circling slowly though like orbiting planets. Apparently Mort had heard it too.. "That's not a very nice thing to say." was her response to the unknown voice.

< Being nice and being honest are two different things, and the first is simply a matter of relativity. > The 'voice' however, obliged, a flicker of Fear giving away its presence as it strode over on all fours and parked itself next to the two students.
It looked exactly like a minipet.
< It is rather interesting however, how nervous the two of you seem. It is wrong for me to listen to your conversation? >

. . . A minipet. A minipet. Maybe it wasn't really one, but it looked like a minipet, and so far all it was doing, beyond making Mort rather perturbed, was making him hungry. The fur he could do without, but the delicious meat beneath that pristine white fur -
He shook his head violently, wincing as his brain rattled a bit more than intended. "Minipets n-not talk normally," Mort replied, looking down at the QB. "N' many things gone weird at school. Not allowed being suspicious?"
Was this another Hunter trap? Sure he had seen the flicker of FEAR, but clearly the humans had access to FEAR-touched things as well . . . The zomboil couldn't help but tighten one hand in precaution - there was a first year with him, and if something went awry he felt obligated to make sure she was okay.
He didn't want something like las time to happen, where he'd opened a hand of friendship to someone unknown, only to be betrayed.
"Who be you?"

Nervous wasn't the best of words to describe Ev. Curious would have been better. She was intrigued by the strange creature that exposed itself suddenly. Her Peldin looked over too, perking up its little frills wit interest. Her moths even fluttered over to investigate their new company. It was easy to see that Mort wasn't sure who this was... but was very much right on the money about the minipet-observation. She'd not seen many of these before..but she still was relatively new, so... that was ok, right?
Mort was seeming to get rather uncomfortable. Ev watched him a moment, almost as if making sure he didn't get too irritated with their guest.
"I believe we are more curious, and surprised, is all. But yes. Might we know who you are?" the words they spoke reminded her of the assembly not too long ago... of the mysterious figure that had told of the schools trial of worth. Could the two be related?
