Well they have Christian music. So couldn't there be Pagan music too?

Well, with Christian music, it's something that promotes a Christian message - it's not just that the band is Christian or that they have a few Christian themes here and there. So it really depends. I mean you have Viking metal which is totally steeped in Heathen themes, but not every band is actually Heathen or trying to promote a Heathen "message" or whatever.

Then you have bands like Inkubus Sukkubus and Faun (I think?) whose music is deliberately religious. Other bands will do some religious stuff and other stuff with a bit wider of an appeal - I mean Inkubus Sukkubus does a lot of vampire stuff and sex stuff as well so they have non-Pagan fans. And then there's Enya, who has a heap of Pagan fans but is totally a Catholic, so I wouldn't say her music was Pagan music. (Just that stereotypically apparently a lot of Pagans like her xd )

I think generally it's a YMMV sort of situation.

That's basically what I was trying to say. Yeah, Faun is deliberately pagan and I mentioned TYR as an example of the same thing you mentioned with the Viking metal and I was actually thinking Loreena McKennitt for about the same thing you discussed with Enya.

Depends. I've come across music from bands that are very definitely pagan themselves, as well as some that are smart enough to cater to an audience (like TYR) that they notice taking an interest, and some that just seems to be very popular with pagans in general.

I looked up Týr, and i like it. smile

I have a hard time looking for music just because it's 'pagan'. A lot of it sucks, no matter what they're choosing to sing about. I tend to like my music on the grindy side, though. Less fond of the folky-'celty' stuff, or the whiny douchebag rock sound, which is what pervades North America.

Personally, I do ok with some European bands: Omnia, Eluveitie, Korpiklaani, Amon Amarth. Generally speaking if you like Northern/Germanic paths, and you like metal, you're in luck.
