Great ideas, everyone!
You can make soup look rather elegant, too. Anyone have a favourite soup? I really think that lolita food is mostly about presentation, rather than ingredients.
Sandwitches made from tiny bread are always cute. My mom used to make them when I had teaparties as a child. <3 If you want a darker look, you could always buy a loaf of darker bread (or bake it) and then cut the edges into a coffin like shape. That way, when you slice the bread, and make sandwitches, they look like mini coffins. If people are confused, I'll draw a little picture.
@ g_e_n_e_s_i_s I know the feeling. If you ever try making petit fours, putting the fondant icing on them is a royal pain, but they taste so good that it's worth it. I think I gave up about halfway through (when I made them 3 years ago) and just started making fondant flowers to put on top of all the un-icinged little cakes.

Mini cucumber sandwiches make great tea party and picnic food!
Scones and cupcakes are also favorites.

Definitely. I was just making a list today of recipies that I wanted to try, to see if they could be made to look pretty or elegant.
When it comes to beverages, don't forget fresh lemonade, especially with strawberries or other fruits.
And, I'm sure that crepes/blintzes would make a delightful luncheon for a lolita gathering. You could serve a pretty salad along with them, to make the meal healthy and attractive to look at. Salads are so easy to be creative with, because there is such a huge variety of ingredients to choose from.
For a more gothic meal, I was thinking that homemade tomato soup with a black bread, and dark red lettuce salad would look good.
Now that I've thought of some things, I really want to try these out, and see how they look and taste. I'd love more opinions and suggestions, as well. And, just as I was writing this, I thought that it would be wonderful if someone here decided to open up a lolita cafe or small restaurant.

Blackberry Sage I loooove cooking. I have so many recipies written in random places. Sketchbooks, notebooks, inside of book covers... heh. When my friends come over and we want something sweet and simple to make, we make candy nests. They can be very beautiful and delicate if you do them right, and look very pretty ontop of cakes. Its pretty much just this recipe, except when heating the syrup, only heat it to about soft crack stage (which is about 270 to 290 degrees farenheit). Then, instead of making lollipops, we drip the syrup into a cup of room temp water. The just wait a few minutes until the sugar has hardened. It makes pretty threads, and if you get a hang of it, you can twist it and swirl it to make rough shapes, like stars or circles. Sometimes you have to be careful when eating them though, because sometimes the broken threads are sharp. Lolliepops! ...not good at making candy though but still...SUGAR!!! ^_^ Now I want to make some right now. lol.

GrumbleCakes Thought lolis look cute with cake frosting on their little faces or nibbling a giant cookie, I think you'll really want to put a healthy, essential diet into account to maintain your lovely figure and stay healthy. heart Not saying any of you neglect on that. There is no reason why cakes and cookies should be the only cute foods! You can do some very cute things with vegetables, too... think of all the possibilities for cute little tiny rolls and suchlike offered by frillier varietes of lettuce and carrot-spirals! Miniature quiches and pies are just adorable and can be dressed up with the right garnish. It is not at all difficult to make healthier foods look entirely at home in a ladies' tea-party. ^^

I agree. Soups can also look very cute, if served neatly, and with a little garnish, or when their colours contrast pleasingly with the other foods on the table.
I'd say that cute food is really about presentation. Sure, it takes a bit more work, but it's worth it, because I enjoy eating things that look good more than things that look sloppy, and take more care when I eat them. There have been some wholistic medicine studies that indicate that food prepared with care has better nutritional values and makes people feel better than food just thrown on a plate without care for what it might be.
Think about what you eat, but don't agonize over it. Just be aware of what you're putting into your mouth.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned CUPCAKES. So easy and so cute looking.
And don't forget fruit! Just a simple fruit salad can be great for picnics and tea parties. It's healthy, tasty, and cute!
For breakfast....french toast with powdered sugar! 3nodding heart

They have a cuter name. ^_^ I have pictures I took of some I made recently using my rosebud muffin tin. I need to upload them to my computer.

In the fourth volume of Kocha no Ôji, there is a recipe of candied (Is this the right word?) flowers, but I only have this comic in french and I'm not sure to be able to traduce it in English... maybe with my parents... I don't know if this manga exist in an English version, but if there is one, I think the title is the Princes of Tea In reality, the japanese word Kocha mean black tea, I think, but... the french title is les Princes du Thé, ... the Princes of Black Tea would be a bit... well... this manga talk about western tea... there is a lot of tips like "how to make ice tea" or "how to choose a teapot"... I love this comic ^^. Tea power! Psst! Ah! There is an other very interesting "recipe" in the same comic; "how to make a fruit flavoured tea" (or something like that), I mean, with tea and real fruits! i love it ^^...

Oooh, that sounds like fun. My mom brought me back a fruit and flower tisane (tea stuff without actual tea leaves) called 'Eve's Rose Magic.' It's delicious, and I hope to order some more when it runs out, to keep in stock with my other favourite teas: earl grey and green tea with raspberries. Tazo's Passion is another favourite infusion of mine. (hmmm, it smells slightly like the saffron I stored it with. biggrin ) The website on the tisane container is this: http://www.beaners.comAnd here's wikipedia on tisanes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbal_teaI don't know why some companies say infusions, and others say tisanes...maybe someone here can clear that up?
