"If I go missin' like that--you can't get ahold of me by phone or anything--call my dad or my granddad, or even one of the professors, got it?" he said. "Don't go chasin' off to my hangouts, don't go flashin' pictures of me out on the streets. With the hunters around it's dangerous. And especially don't do it alone, got it?"

Oh! Well that wasn't bad at all. That had actually kind of been the plan since day 1. She could do that. Taryn nodded and smiled, moving her arms behind her now that there was no tail to support.
"Of course. I promise."

"Good," he said with a smile. "So what's happened while I was gone?" he asked her, still lightly playing whatever came to his mind. "Anything big? Hunters attack and kill everyone again? New couple be made? Old couple be broken up?"

"You know I don't really follow the rumors," Taryn shrugged. She always heard, the quiet ones always did, but she didn't tend to tell. It seemed inappropriate at the best of times, and now Roch was supplying background music. "No attacks, not that I know of. Things have been pretty sedate. The student council is holding a Scarentine's... thing? I don't know if it's a dance or what. I went to a promotional event. Ummm..."
Hm, without Roch, Amityville seemed pretty boring!

"Scarentines dance, huh?" he said, a strange look on his face. "I gotta admit, my last dance didn't turn out all that great," he said. "Really, actually, the ending BLEW." Could he get away with skipping?
Please could he skip? Maybe he should have STAYED at the reaper school...

"Really? I went to prom, that was fine," Taryn nodded. Sure, there'd been a huge spill, but it was her first dance and her date had been a gentleman. It could have gone much worse. "Nothing says you have to go. I think I'm going to, though."

He looked at her, his heart pounding just a bit, and gave her a little smile. "I think I'll go stag," he said. "I had a hell of a lot more fun when I wasn't with my date than when I was."
This feeling, he had had it before. It SUCKED and was a LIE. And feeling like this right now was why he couldn't ask her out to Scarentines. He wasn't going to lose this friendship, not over some jackin' heart pounding and sweaty hands.

"I think I will too," Taryn nodded, chest puffing out a moment. It was an empowered woman thing to go alone, right? Then she could spend time with who ever she wanted to and do whatever she felt like, with no pressure anywhere else. Maybe they could go stag... together?
Like as friends.
"It'll be fun. I'm already looking for a new dress." She'd forgotten that not only had Roch not seen her at prom, he had never seen her made-up.

"Yeah? I probably should find something to wear, too, huh?" he said with a sigh. "Well, I'm sure Skelly will have something on hand, or maybe Monica could find me something!" he started cheering up at that thought, even digging out his phone. "Monica's my granddad's ghoul," he explained idly as he waited for the phone to be picked up. "Hey! Yeah, Scarentines is--no I'm NOT taking Nahm," he said. "But could you find me a suit? I'll pay--okay, granddad will pay," he said with a grin. "Love you, too," he said easily, hanging up.
"Jack is it good to have a female in the family," he told her.

"I don't know, is there really even a dress code?" Taryn asked, a brow arching, "I don't think anybody'll care what you're wearing..." She went quiet as Roch placed a brief and oddly humorous call and smiled, shaking her head.
"It must be. I just want to look pretty... for me, not for anyone else."

He gave her a shockingly sweet smile. "But you already are," he told her. "Not that I'm going to try and stop you from doing something that'll make you happy, or anything! Sometimes y'just... gotta be who YOU want to be, not who other people want you to be," he declared.
He did like her, he decided. And he was attracted to her, too. But... no. He would jackin' slit his own throat before he broke that rule again. A strangely serious expression crossed his face, which disappeared into a little smile.

Roch was being very, very strange and it was throwing Taryn for a loop. Her face shifted through a dozen different expressions before finally settling at another soft smile.
"Well, that's what I said. It's not for anyone else. I want to feel beautiful." She let the sugary-sweet compliment roll off her back. She couldn't take this too seriously, she'd only end up hurt...

"Good," he said strongly. "That's EXACTLY what you need to do. Hell, that's what I need to do, too. This dance, hell, it'll be a lot of fun... I hope. And if it's not, well, goin' stag just means you can sneak out easier!"
He felt relieved, the part of him that wasn't cursing himself as an idiot for not breaking out in ballads and proposing they go steady--
"But I should probably get going," he told her, getting to his feet. "I bet there's a few others worried about me bein' gone most of the week. One or two, at least," he finished modestly.

Taryn laughed and shook her head. Yes, Roch, that's what she meant. She was glad that he had plans to do the same... she guessed he didn't always feel badass?
Pinstripes. Someone needed to wear pinstripes.
"You should go check on Amrita... and Chuppi! Danny too. You just kind of disappeared on us."

"Ah, he stole my phone. I couldn't escape without it, y'know? I got practically my entire life on it!" he exaggerated. "But yeah, I'll go see them," he promised. "You and me, we're good, though, right? Still friends? Even after I disappeared on you?"
