Danny leaned into Yin's lanky side. It wasn't quite the same feeling as when she held Rikki, but it was certainly comforting. Not the same though. This would be the second time she'd shaken in a boil's arms, though she was fairly certain Yin wasn't about to kiss her softly like Rikki had done ... Nor would she want that.

Jackdamn, she really couldn't think about anyone else. Danny wrapped one arm around Yin, and then the other followed. She was returning his awkward hug in a more normal one (though quite frankly, for Yin that might have been even more awkward. Nevermind the fact that she was still in her shirt and underwear).

"But what if-" she argued, "What if he hates me? What if I talked to him and it isn't a misunderstanding... What if-" She pressed her head into his shoulder and the rest of the worried thought was lost.

She was close. Too close. Yin forced himself to remember what he had told Roch, if a ghoul started it there really was nothing you could do about it. And if just sitting here was going to make her feel better he could put up with that, though he did reach over and pull a blanket over her lap, even if her shirt did cover almost as much as her shorts. Undergarments with kitties on them really just made him think of Night, and that was slightly disturbing, nor did he want to see them in the first place.

Yin thought back to the boil's reaction when he thought that Yin was interfering with the two of them. "Miss Danny I am fairly certain that Roch does not hate you. But how will you know if you do not talk to him?" Miss Xiu-Ying had taught him that lesson when she had dragged Alexander and him away to actually speak to each other. "If he is upset with you could you not leave at that point? Do you not care enough for Roch to even give him a chance to explain himself before you leave?"

Danny continued to cling to Yin with one hand, but pulled the blanket up and around her with another. Now it was more of a leaning on Yin than an embrace. She didn't feel right hugging anyone right now.

"But what do I say?" Danny protested, still fighting this desire to talk to Roch. Something about it just seemed so scary. It was like when she'd worked up the courage to talk to Rikki about being friends. Finding him missing had been the most disappointing thing in the world. She didn't want to know what would happen if Roch never came back.

She gave Yin a hard look and then quietly said, "Yin if he really doesn't like me ... I really will leave." Her voice faded like a dimunendo, like she didn't want to think about really leaving.

"You ask him where he has been? Yeah, Yin was not the most eloquent of boils. "And perhaps why he left without telling you goodbye?"

He honestly had no idea of what to do if Roch truly did not like her anymore, but he figured he could deal with that later. "But you will stay for now?" His voice was hopeful but he was rather unsure of what she meant.

"I'll ... stay," she decided. Danny unlatched herself from Yin and leaned over to grab her skelephone from the bedside table she had set up.

While she fumbled through her phone contacts, she hesitantly spoke to Yin, still without looking at him. "Will you stay while I call? I don't want to do it by myself," she said, in a hopeful voice that mimicked Yin's. She didn't want to have to make this phone call alone.

Especially since her mother wasn't going to be too happy about switching again. Danny was worried. What if her mother couldn't be bothered to change plans? Her mother got in moods like that; where she focused on one thing and nothing else. Danny bit her lip, and looked at Yin with big, hopeful eyes.

"Of course," he said easily. He was unsure of what he could do for the ghoul, but if sitting helped that was easy enough. He smiled at her, trying to be reassuring. Alexander liked to pat him on the shoulder when he was trying to make him feel better so cautiously he reached out and did the same.

Now all he could do was wait.

Danny smiled and squeezed his arm. Even though she knew Yin would stay with her, it was comforting to hear a word-of-mouth confirmation. He wasn't going. He wouldn't leave her.

She waited silently while the phone rang, the dialtone buzzing in her ear. Eventually though, her mother picked up the phone. It was different from the last time she called- there were no more voices murmuring in the background. It was just her and her mom this time.

"Danny? If you're calling about the transfer, I've already begun the paperwo-"

"No mom, I wanted to tell you that ... I don't want to go anymore," Danny said, casting a look at Yin. She could do this. Yin wanted her here.

"But dear, I've already begun the work! That is a LOT to ask o-"

"Mom. Listen. I want to stay," she replied firmly.

"You said it was unsafe! What about all the stories screechie?" Clearly her mother was very firm on not letting her work go to waste. She probably didn't even care which school Danny went to, she just didn't want to have to apply more effort than she needed to.

"Yeah, I'll be okay ... A ..." she looked at Yin and smiled, putting her hand in his, in a friendly way. "A friend convinced me otherwise."

A sort of dark silence came from the other end of the phone, and then her mother said, "Friend?"

"Yes mom, a very good friend.," Danny said, a smile crossing her face now.

"Can I speak to this friend at some point? Are they there at Amityville? How can I contact this person?"

Danny looked at Yin, and offered him the phone. "She wants to speak to you!" she said, trying not to laugh. This could not end well.

Yin let her hand rest in his, thinking that it was an odd gesture when there was no risk of being lost in a crowd, but willing enough to do it. Miss Danny was staying and he could go through a bit of personal discomfort for that. (Though honestly, the ghoul needed some less revealing clothing.

And then Miss Danny was handing him the phone. Why was it that his friend's seemed to always want him to speak to their mother's on the phone? He took the phone from her reluctantly and held it up, mimicking how Miss Danny had held it. "Mistress?" he said, throat suddenly very dry.

A pause from the other end of the phone, and then, "A boil? Well I thought she already had that Roch boil, but okay. I'm never going to discourage a little flirtatious Dannypie. I'm surprised she even got a boil. Our little freakydeaky was never very smart you know-"

Apparently Danny's mother was talking to someone else in the room, presumably her father. While Yin might have found the situation awkward or intimidating, they were probably just crowded around the phone like the dorky parents they were.

"Dear, he's still on the phone- he can probably hear this."

"Oh! Oh you're right!" Suddenly something shifted, and the voices sounded a lot closer. "Mistress oh my, you're quite the charmer aren't you," her mother said coyly. Her father mumbled something in the background, and then "Oh dear don't be jealous."

Clearly they were not on task. You wonder where Danny got it.

"Right, right. Who are you, mister mysterious?" Danny's mother said.

Yin's face was busy transforming. First from a delicate pink and then deepening into a ferocious scarlet. M-Mistress I am not M-Miss Danny's chosen." Great Mantis he was mortified. "I am simply Yǐn Cáng. Your daughter has been quite kind to me since I arrived here, and I would very much appreciate you allowing her to stay."

He glanced at Miss Danny, and then belatedly realized that in his stress he had been squeezing her hand and he forced it to relax. Hopefully this would be enough.

Danny stifled a giggle and let go of Yin's hand, instead forcefully patting him on the back. Afterwards, her hands fell on the bed, so she could lean back and kid her legs a little. Sitting still was not her forte after all. She could tell how much he was struggling, and it was apparently hilarious to her. She'd never seen Yin so red! Part of her wondered if he was sick, but she was beginning to learn the difference between a fever and a blush.

"Ohhh~ You're not?" Danny's mother sounded disappointed. You could hear the faint whisper of her asking her husband "what's a chosen?" only to get a muffled reply that couldn't be heard over the phone.

A beat or two, and then "Danny's been nice? Well of course she has. The silly-willy dope couldn't hurt a fly. She's not too bright, you know." While her mother cantankerously and whimsically insulted her over the phone, Danny just sat by with a small grin on her face. After all, she couldn't hear what was going on in the conversation.

"No Mistress, though I am sure it would be an honor," he hurriedly assured her. How bad could this conversation get?

Then she started saying some rather nasty things about Miss Danny. He shot the ghoul a glance, but she seemed blissfully unaware. How could he tell another ghoul, this ghoul's mother, not to be rude.

"Miss Danny is very helpful Mistress." He immediately began trying to think of what exactly she had done that was actually helpful. "She gave me a companion, Princess Eva, helped me in the snow, destroyed a robot that was trying to throw me in the trash, and even taught me what tacos were. She is a very nice ghoul, and she is quite bright." He was a bit passionate as he said this, trying to prove that her mother was wrong without saying as much.

A laugh followed that was surprisingly similar to Danny's. Though she hadn't followed much of what Yin said, she could feel his overwhelming pride in her. "Ohhh you may not be her chosen, but I sense a little crushy~~~" her mother cooed over the phone.

"Is he a demon?" Bernard asked gruffly.

"Oh please, would a demon be interested in our little Danny?" her mother replied, talking away from the phone once more.

"Well there's always hoping," Bernard said glumly. "Perhaps we should arrange a marriage for her."

"Ooooh! I love wedding's, we should!" Her parents would never bother getting around to it, but they liked getting excited over little things like this.

Danny, on the other hand, was getting a little fidgety. "What are they saying?" she asked, pulling the blankets up further, to get more comfortable. Her legs still kicked idly off the bed.

What was even more red than scarlet? Well, it did not matter as now all the blood rushed from his face, leaving him look distinctly pale and feeling a bit light headed. A crush? No. Such things were not allowed. His mouth was completely dry and when he tried to answer he just made a faint croaking noise.

But at least it sounded like they wanted her with a demon, so he was safe? Maybe?

He held the phone toward Miss Danny as she asked what they were talking about. "Your wedding," he managed to say, staring at the phone in his hand with some horror.

Danny's head tilted like a cat's. "My ... Wedding? I'm getting married?" she said, then gave a little laugh. "To who?"

Just what she needed. A marriage on top of everything. There was a small comfort in the fact that Danny knew they wouldn't ever find a suitor for her. No demon would marry a Fitzgerald unless the first name was Oersted. Not unless they were doing it for money. Besides, even her mother had the decency to wait until she was the proper age. The family image was at stake after all.

Then she nabbed the phone out of Yin's hand and spoke in to it saying, "Okay mom, I'll talk to you later." Her mother and father had already long forgotten they were on the phone, and were now going through imaginary wedding details that would never be performed.

With a satisfying snap, Danny pressed the end-call button and threw the phone on her bed. She wouldn't need it for a while.

Her mind aimlessly floated to Rikki when she thought of marriage. Of course, Danny couldn't even picture it. She could see the gown and the cake, but Rikki staying with her for the rest of her life? Not at all. Especially not when they had broken up like this. She couldn't imagine it like in the movies where the boil came home every day so happy to see his wife, and the wife had a loving dinner cooked for both of them. Danny couldn't even cook for herself.

Roch either. Married life with Roch nearly made her burst out in laughter. That would NEVER work. He'd be too busy playing his guitar to care about her, and she'd be busy burning his belongings in revenge! Maybe she was doomed to be alone. Sometimes that sounded better. Returning back to the present, Danny said, "Yin, what do you think about marriage? Will you ever get married I mean?" She bit her lip once more.
