Hel? Mot's ghoulfriend? Mort knew her? Wow, small world. Anywho.

"Ooooh. I thought those were new. I really like them, they're so... culture defying." Says the one who works in a corporate coffee shop that everyone knows about and accepts. "The goggles sounds cool, though! Do you have any plans I could see? Or... She dropped her voice, leaning in. "Are they a secret? Oooooh~"

At the mention of FEAR use, Gene's whole body perked up and tensed. She... had never used her FEAR before. She had an inkling of what she could do, but had never actually practiced it. "Oh, uh-huh. Makes sense..." Hmm... a device to help with FEAR. Would something along those lines help with her little problem?

"Expensive? Like, how expensive? If you need metal and wires, we just got rid of an old espresso machine."

"Culture defying"? ouo He personally thought they were bulky and made his eyes look squinty and magnified, but then Mort was rather practical in appliances and accessories. Usually. His steampunk interest, however, would probably shift priorities from practical to embellishment. "Can show, yis." Closing his laptop fully, he stashed it in his backpack and pulled out a mid-size scroll of paper. Unsure his dexterity check would make it past the "do not spill coffee and/or land plans in eyescream" threshold, Mort chose to scoot his chair next to Gene's and push back a bit, unfurling the paper for their viewing pleasure away from the table.

The top half had scribbles of different types of goggles, from simple aviator-style bottle caps to more intricate nuts-and-bolts, from thick lensed to thinner and snugger versions. The range of ornaments went from plain to Dear Jack, and next to each design was a scrawled note in Mort's handwriting about possible alternatives or notes. The bottom half was less filled, so far with an amateurish drawing of a typical hand, the bones sketched within. Some had names, some did not, but it was clear that he was in the middle of making sure each one was accounted for.

"Machine say? I-If not need, would like borrow, see if can strip of parts," Mort said, a bit anxious at showing someone his plans as he was waiting for the criticism; had he been capable of flushing, he would have done so. "Wire harder finding - Halloween has graveyard for body parts, b-but no scrapyard know of. Will need good metal, strong n' c-conductive."

Gene flushed ever so slightly as Mort came near and unfurled the plans for his goggles and robohand. She couldn't quite understand all the scrawled notes, but she did enjoy the designs. A finger went to her lips as she looked them over, deciding which one was her favorite. Oh!

"I like that one!" She pointed at a design to the right; it was simple, but had a few nuts and bolts adorning it, with nice thick lenses. "They look battle worthy, and have just the right amount of decoration." Of course, Gene had no clue what was battle worthy and what wasn't, but she just wanted to sound smart in front of him. That usually worked, right?

"Well, that all depends on if the boss man says its okay. He's really into hoarding 'just in case' and -" Now wait a moment. If Gene could get Mort that parts he needed, not only would she be scoring brownie points, but she'd be seen as a good member of the community! Helping out the zomboil was the only option. "Never mind. He'll be fine with it. Let's get to that machine, hm? She sat up quickly, took Mort's hand, and began to lead him out of the maul and around the back, where they machine was being held at the moment.

"Mrrrrr-?" Before he could react, he was dragged out of Bloodbucks, the only thing in hand being the plans. "W-Wait, iskay to leave stuff there?" he asked, even more anxiety in his tone as he gripe the paper. Mort was not at all comfortable with leaving his beloved devices to their, er, own devices so to speak. What if someone took them? What if someone touched them? He whined at the back of his throat like an unruly mini pet, but otherwise he was at Gene's whim. The quicker they got it, the quicker he could return to his stuff.

"Oh yeah, your stuff will be fine! There's maul security everywhere, and my coworkers usually keep an eye out for people who leave their stuff." Gene hadn't thought about that though. What if Mort's stuff really did get stolen? She'd hate herself forever, that's what. She made a mental note to make this trip quick and easy, to return the Zomboil to his things.

The machine was there, lying in the sun like a metallic sun bather. It looked perfectly new, with only a few scratches and nicks. The boss, however, had insisted that the steamer was broken. So, they got a new one. Gene thought it was a wasteful move, but if she could use it to further Mort's purposes, and in turn further her own, it was a move she fully applauded.

Maul security wasn't even close enough to the manpower he would've asked for when it came to his tech, but Mort managed to swallow his growing anxiety (for the moment) to examine the so-called broken machine. "Mrrr . . ." The wires were salvageable, even if they would probably still have the smell of coffee beans for a while. Mort wasn't familiar with the insides of a machine like this, but it would probably have a spring, a conductor, other odds and ends he might be able to convert . . . It was worth a shot if nothing else. "Can take n' see what do with," the zomboil said after a moment, picking up the machine quickly. "Hopeful outcome, methinks. Th-Thanks," he told Gene with a smile. "Every small thing counts when coming to wallet. Is, er, is there way of repaying?"

Gene was more than surprised when Mort picked up the machine easily and quickly, eyes going wide to show it. That machine had taken her at least ten minutes to drag outside, including water breaks and recoup times. Zombies were known for their unreal strength and persistence, though.

Mort's question certainly interested her, and her eyes once again went wide - this time with all the possibilities that she could ask Mort for. Oh, those possibilities. She couldn't exploit him though, no, that would be mean and cruel and...

Well.

There was an idea.

"Well, you could always buy or make me dinner sometime. Nothing fancy, but... yeah. Sound good?"
PostPosted: Sat Feb 25, 2012 9:09 am

Dinner? Oh thank Jack she didn't say fancy. "Sounds fair. Sometime after Scarentines party?" he suggested. "You pick place. C-Can't, er, not good cook. Most can make's canned soup or toast." And that hardly seemed fair in comparison to a whole machine as a prize.

Slowly but surely, though, Mort began to inch his way back from whence they came. His stuff needed him.

After...Scarentine's? Her heart did a little song and dance about how it was going to implode due to immense sadness and depression, but her face kept a good mask of composure. She'd just cry in her dorm later, no problem. Really, she was okay with that. She'd be buying a pint of Rocky Rhode to take to the dorm though, and possibly something like "The Human Bride." She;d see him...after Scarentine's.

"Alright, it's a deal then." She gave Mort one more cheery smile, then they began to walk back to Bloodbucks, where Mort could pick up his stuff and be off. She went behind the counter, threw together a Blood Flappucino with brain bits and a drizzle of chocolate sauce, handed it to Mort, and gave him a quick hug.

"Thanks for the day Mort. See you after Scarentine's."

Mort, who thankfully had no mind reading capabilities, took this as a good sign and, after putting the machine down, actually returned her hug; he was that grateful for the extra parts, to have forgotten most don't like the pressing of dead flesh against theirs. "Thanks to you too. See soon, keep n' contact with texting!"

And with a quick repacking of his beloved tech and some carefully balanced Bloodbucks flappucinno upon the broken coffee machine, Mort headed out. He'd make one quick purchase at Worst Buy (for their cheap prices if nothing else), but otherwise this day was going to be very, very easy on his wallet and mind.
