Jordan shrugged his uniform coat off and took off his heavy jacket, leaving him in his long-sleeved shirt and hoodie; he put the white coat back on, then pulled his gloves off and handed the jacket and gloves to Ofelia. "Put these on, and next time you get tapped for an external mission, ask where you're going," he advised firmly.
"I've got a baggie," he said to Marcus. "Had to scrounge to find a container for a sample on the last mission I was on, so I brought a couple of plastic bags." He produced a ziploc bag out of the pocket of his hoodie and ducked into the interior of the plane, gingerly scooping up some of the odd black fur Ofelia had found and dropping it into the bag. "It's damp," he reported, and shook his hand to be sure none of the strands clung to his fingers.
There was a faint smell inside the plane. Jordan poked cautiously around the interior, trying to locate the source. "Smells weird in here," he said. The seats were damp as well, he found. "In this kind of weather, anything damp should've frozen. Or dried up," he mused.
Oh, yeah, Ferros said suddenly. That's good.
What?
I can taste it now. The Fear she said they were feeling. Ferros rumbled with satisfaction. I want more.
We'll go kill shadowlings when we get home. "Ferros is sensing it now too," Jordan said aloud. "The Fear traces." He conferred silently with his weapon for a moment longer, then shook his head. "He can't tell what it came from."

Jordan, you were a lifesaver. Did Marcus ever tell you this? He wasn't sure but he was going to tell you know. "If I wasn't dating Cass and was actually gay Jordan, I'd kiss you. I will definitely need to remember to bring bags or canisters next time. Ofelia-" He sighed. "You are really lucky to have Jordan on your division you know that?" He chuckled lightly. "He's pretty highly thought of by a good number of the trainees."
Jordan's assessment earned a nod as he reached out to get some of the liquid and mold flecks into a bag as he answered Ofelia. "It's an observatory mission, so direct encounters with anyone would not go over well. The samples we take shouldn't disturb the site. Just so, the ambient FEAR isn't enough to feed our weapons. All in all, I'd say time to head out." A glance at the newbie. "And make sure we don't end up having to treat you for hypothermia."

Ofelia blushed and frowned a bit, nodding as she took the jacket and placed it about herself. It was a hard lesson learned since she was freezing and now made two people think she was likely stupid and incapable of much. Usually the opinions of others didn't matter much (and eventually she wouldn't care much for this moment) but seeing as they were being kind to her because she was new somewhat stung.
Good to know you can feel shame too. Let's hope you don't forget it and stop making my life difficult. Rue's chide was taken in stride, seeing as Ofelia was too busy putting the jacket on and not really worried about the pissing and moaning of a weapon in her head. Seriously, listen to me.
"Sorry 'bout this, Ah'll find a way to properly make it up ta ya both. Jus'...don' regret bringing me along." At least maybe her finding out things would make up for her lack of dressing properly. It wasn't like she'd come in a bikini though. Did she even own a bikini? ( No ). "An'...Ah am thankful."
On a more important note, that delicious FEAR is here again. Oh, I wish there was more of it. Rue was practically quivering, her voice an excited echo. If it was the same fear as before, Ofelia didn't feel like reporting it. She felt it was probably best to just shut up and go along with the others, seeing as they knew more and were her superiors and all that. Plus it still was cold.

Jordan snorted and shook his head at Marcus. "I'm flattered, I think. I bring notepad and pencil, pocketknife, flashlight, a couple of plastic bags, and normal bandaids with me now. Not too much to carry in my pockets, but it's all useful."
At the compliment, though, his eyes widened a little. "What? I - er." He looked genuinely surprised; he'd been careful to keep on good terms with most of the trainees, but he hadn't really thought anyone had taken notice of him as such. It was good to be considered competent, anyway. He decided that he was pleased by that.
"You don't have much experience yet," he said to Ofelia. "But that'll change quick enough. You'll learn. I'm not worried." He grinned. "Anyone explained the basics of using your weapon yet? I can give you a lesson." There was a faintly evil glint in his expression; the proffered explanation would also include a participatory demonstration.
"Not seeing anything else here," he said, and looked around the plane again, pushing aside a crate with his foot and finding only another patch of fur and mold beneath it. He shook his head. "Marcus is right. It's time to go."

"I am," he clasped his hands together, blowing warm air on them, "more than ready to go. And sorry what?" Marcus wasn't fazed by it. "We were all there once, nothing to be ashamed of, much less worried about. The one guy who would have rained hell down isn't around. I make it a priority to not regret things often. Oi Jordan!" He laughed. "You can't kill her yet! She has yet to meet death in person and-" Caelius would come back. He vanished that one time before but-
"Well let's head back." Going to the portal he waited. "Now all that's left are the mission reports."

Wait, killing her? Ofelia wasn't particularly ready to die but if Jordan was offering to spar, then Ofelia would spar. She needed to learn how to wield Rue much, much better than she already could when it came time to facing down actual monsters or whatever, so when fighting was offered she'd take it. Rue...somewhat approved of it? It was hard to tell since she was curiously dry orgasming over the faint traces of FEAR that lingered in the air. Ofelia really wanted to judge her based on it but well, that wouldn't end well when she tired to sleep later that evening. "Ah'm pretty sure Ah won' die so easily. Ah like ta think Ah've already had mah scare for this lifetime."
She spoke slowly, as if she didn't want to jinx herself over it just yet. The way people talked had her nervous, and then - "What, paperwork?" Well, ********. Ofelia didn't do paperwork so well. "Lead the way."

"Hey," Jordan protested, "I'm not going to kill her. That'd be counterproductive. I just want to make sure she's got a good handle on the shield and charge stuff. Nothing like sparring for that kind of instruction." He cast a look at Ofelia; she'd likely get a lot more nasty scares, and soon, judging by the fairly regular occurrence of soul-scarring missions. He wasn't going to crush that optimism, though. He'd just contribute to sharpening her reflexes so when s**t happened, she'd be better at protecting herself.
"Mission reports," he groaned. "The truly frightening part of the mission. May as well get it over with. I could use some coffee." He made sure that the sample he'd picked up was secured in his pocket, then headed through the portal. He'd catch Ofelia later and get his jacket and gloves back, and see about the sparring session he'd offered.
